    And then Makita XGT smokes everything - with a giant brick attached. Impressive showing by Hilti, too, I expected them to dial the power down for longevity, but it still did well in heat after 5min. Amazing test and great to see all these brands that we don't usually see tested with all their batteries.

      Only smoked them because they were using 8ah on a 40v which would be equivalent to a 18v with a 16AH battery (of which no one really makes). Surprised the Flex stayed on top - did you run it on turbo? Ultimately, the biggest surprises were the Ridgid and Hercules.

Bosch also now has ProCore+ 8ah batteries with tabless cells which will be closer to 12ah performance than the regular 8ah battery. I've got the Flex and the Makita XGT, few others that you've tested as well. The Flex stays at home and only sees occasional use. Sure, it's one of the most powerful drills I own, but that's the only good thing I have to say about it, and there are other factors that make it horrible to run in a 9 to 5, like the Ryobi-esque ergonomics or its tendency to overheat quicker than the rest of my drills.

    Great comparison as always. I wish you could measure the runout of the chucks, some of them even look wobbly on video - providing they're all in like-new condition of course.
    A couple more thoughts:
    - Electronic clutches are almost useless imo. They might be ok for rought work with large fasteners, but they react too slowly to limit torque for more delicate fasteners.
    - The battery sizes are getting out of hand. Soon you'll need an extra handle just to hold the battery.
    - DeWalts product lineup is similarly out of hand, it's a mess with way too many models and nonsensical names.

      I have the 998 and it powers through a bucket of mud, handle attached of course, with a huge paddle mixer, with enough torque to spin the big bucket if I don't hold it with my feet. I too was surprised by the test results?
      There are varying opinions about the 998 VS the FV 999, and which is better. I’ve run FV batteries, and the 5.0 PS, and the XR 6.0/ 8.0 on mine, and they all feel about the same. Conclusion: All of these drills tested can snap a wrist, so the lack of any anti kickback in a present model of drill, is inexcusable. Ergos, noise, comfort and durability are what matters at the end of the day, and if one gets to go home on time, not held up by a tool that did not hold up or perform, am I right? Peace!

    So the makita LXT would probably be about equal to the XGT if it had equal batteries. Gotta remember that those adapters always increase resistance etc. It's extremely frustrating to know that lxt would be one of the best platforms if makita didn't get greedy. 18V has a huge tool selection (still no nailer.....), people already have tons of tools, they are well priced, they are very reliable and the tools are easy to repair + the parts availability is good. The only thing they lack is performance and a framing nailer.

      Great comment and I have to tell You, it makes me want to rant! I have had many very unsatisfying Conversations with Makita Tech Reps, telling me all kinds of asinine and insulting reasons why they did not have anything higher than 6.0 Ah batteries, in the LXT lineup. I was even told not to buy the 6.0’s as they wouldn’t make much difference! Sheesh!
      Makita really NEEDS to come out with their version of a ‘pouch style’ battery, so it will fit in existing tools. They cannot come out with 21700 batteries, as they would have a mess on their hands. The fit on my 18X2 rear handle saw is already tight, with the LXT 18 volt batteries. Some of the tools could not house the larger batteries without major work.

    I think the Greenworks, Cat, and even the Dewalt seem to suffer from what I call Ryobi syndrome. They all cut off long before it seems like they’re actually tapped out. The Greenworks and Cat in particular seemed like they had a lot more to give but the electronics stopped it for some reason. Cheap electronics? Saving the mechanicals that aren’t up to snuff? I dunno but I hate it!
    As I recall, Bosch has labeled that drill as “the world’s strongest 18v drill” when it came out, and I think you pretty much proved that right. At least in torque alone. I remember TTC testing it with new pro factor batteries (I think) and it topped their chart for torque. At least at the time.
    Very interesting seeing Ridgid beat Milwaukee in max Watts on a 12AH. I wonder how that was allowed to happen?
    Max torque in low in the 2.5-6AH battery category, you show the M18 using a 3.0. Did that actually perform better than the forge? I would assume you tested with the forge.
    Interesting to hear the sound differences, some drills have really REALLY noisy speed controls. My biggest gripe about my 2904 is how loud the speed control is. Sometimes it forces me to wear hearing protection. I don’t know why that is, but it’s the same way in RC cars. You can have two equivalently powerful and spec’d speed controls and motors and one will be nearly silent while the other screams its guts out! Looking at you Arrma! I’m tempted to think that higher quality electronics means quieter, but I’m not convinced that’s the case.
    In the end I don’t much care for Dewalt or Makita. It’s pretty hard to beat the tool lineup of Milwaukee and I do throughly love my 2904. It’s got a lot of power in a small package but man I wish it was quieter! Also love me some Ridgid and I wish there were more Lowes near me as then I could get on the Flex and Ego bandwagon! I got 4 Home Depot’s within 5 miles of my house, but the nearest Lowes is about 13 miles away and easily a 30-45 minute drive! Damn you Lowes!
    Awesome video as always, been so looking forward to it! Quite possibly the most underrated and under appreciated channel on the interwebs!!!

      Yeah that Ridgid is strong, somehow pulled a fast one on Milwaukee. Im guessing we see a new Milwaukee soon.
      Speaking of Milwaukee, good catch on the 3AH. Im guessing thats a result of the drill pulsing under max load. It only happens with the 3 and 2AH. I will have to retest the 3 again and look at the data before the pulsing.

      @@Tools-Tested Yeah I would love to know why some drills do that. I mean is it cheap electronics or does the manufacturer know the gearbox or other internals can’t handle the power? Or is just a lack of paying attention to the final outcome? Given what the Milwaukee has done on Flex batteries, it seems pretty clear that it can take a fair bit more, so why can’t the other brands in the same price class?
      Have you checked out Way Source, formally The source, to buy your batteries? They’re often the best place to buy batteries for several brands including Bosch. I dunno if they have what you’re looking for but if they do it’s a good place to go for great deals on batteries. Sometimes they have great deals on tools too, but that’s hit or miss.
      I have no reason to buy the Ridgid, but at the same time I want one now lol! I have the older gen5X drill with 100 position micro clutch! The clutch is awesome! The drill torque leaves a little to be desired, but it is quite old now.
      I have no idea what Milwaukee plans on a new drill, honestly I’d be surprised if they came out with a new one so soon. But at the same time I’ve only been in their platform since the 2904 came out. That was actually my first Milwaukee tool. So maybe it is time. My one request above all else would be quieter electronics.
      Dude you make awesome no BS content and I love it! I hope your channel grows to! I totally understand not having the time considering you still have a full time job. I have no idea what you do and quite frankly I neither need nor want to know, but the amount of time, material, and financial outlay you’ve had is absurd! Especially if it’s just for the channel! Here’s hoping that you can make some return on that stuff outside of the channel videos!

    Ework has a 6Ah battery that is compatible with the LXT that I learned about from the TTC. Seems to outperform the available Makita options. I wonder how that Makita would do on your dyno with that ework battery.
    I'm not likely to use a battery adapter in normal use because of the added bulk and loss of communication, but maybe an alternative compatible battery.

    • @toolscientist
      @toolscientist 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There's no communication between LXT tools and batteries. That 3rd pin is just a stop/go voltage signal. The performance of a 3rd party 21700 6Ah will be about the same as using an adapter and any other brand's 21700 6Ah (minus some small losses from adapter resistance).

    • @ccbowers
      @ccbowers 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@toolscientist Good to know. But with an adapter, you would lose the low voltage cutoff for battery lines that have that in the battery vs tool right? Potentially resulting in over-discharged batteries? That risk is a deal breaker.
      Regardless of that, the added bulk also makes the adapters not great - except maybe for an occasionally needed tool, in a battery line that someone doesn't want to stay in.

    • @toolscientist
