TheKrowSama thanks for the very informative review of this kit...i grew up with wing so this would be a very good addition to my wing colllection. The posing reminds of the show and I am very thankful to you for showing it. just a question...can it transform to bird mode? looking forward to more of your reviews...hope you made posing videos again... :)
So far, no. I still prefer the model kits due to the build and the details. I might change my opinion in the future depending on this line's progress, though
It's 25 dollars at Walgreens and target.... I would rather buy the 19 dollar power rangers lightning collection ones... I think the price isn't comparable enough.
madhatten00 lighting collection is actually 19.99 and I actually don’t mind the price point of these especially since there basically marvel legends but for the Gundam franchise
I will be getting these for sure. Its the first international Gundam line in ages. I do wish Wing Gundam would of had its beam saber. But I can always paint one or make one. Anyways you got yourself a new subscriber! Awesome vid.
I just got this guy today, and I must say I am impressed. Like you said, the colors are vibrant, and it does make for a good little display piece. I think these are not for kids, but more for those collectors who like low-end collectible, such as Marvel Legends or DC Collectibles.
I agree with Krow, the GU lineup products are not meant for Gunpla builders or collectors. Of course hardcore "Everything Gundam" perfectionists would have to get every one of them, but mainly I think the Universe figures are targeting casual fans as well as those just entering the world of Gundam in general. The pricing range is strategically well thought out too imo.
yep it's for me who just doesn't really want to build but want acton figure style...this is perfect for me..i will still get the model kits but i'll give it to my bro to build it for me
Maybe when this line releases Heavyarms, they'll include a beam saber with it. It is accurate to the show, and it would redeem this figure's lack of a beam saber.
Im much interested in this line. I find the Robot Spirits way too small for the price. Ive always been a bigger is better kind of guy. That and Im not willing to pay too much for Gundam to begin with. Not really a big fan of the franchise outside of G Gundam and Gundam Wing.
I used to be this way but then I started watching the original Mobile Suit Gundam when it was on Toonami or Adult Swim or whatever, and had the voice actor for Quatre from Gundam Wing as the main character, Amuro Ray. I fell in love with it and plan on rewatching it some day so I can finish the series.
I just got mine today and it's my first gundam..I collect dc collectibles, marvel select, kotobukiya and other statues.ive always wanted a gundam because I always watched the tv show growing up and this is perfect for someone that wants a part of his/her childhood for cheap...and trust it doesn't look cheap by any means.
My thoughts are: it’s a good addition but could use some work. I went to chinatown yesterday and they had the first releases (Wing, Unicorn, Gramps). The wing was definitely the best looking, the gramps was ok/passable. The unicorn looks like a damn toy (it’s supposed to be a toy though, but hear me out). The plastic casting is a bit “softer” and less crisp than the model kits, that’s why the model kits look better. This line is much bigger than Robot Damashii and the plastic is harder, so it’s a lot better for priming and painting. For $25 bucks too, really good price if you’re into toy collecting. In my opinion, this line could use more color/parts separation. The Wing looks the best because it has the most color separation with good seam lines. The unicorn, for example, has the whole forearm casted together. No individual parts, which it’s supposed to be. Even some basic parts separation would have helped it. The proportions are also really unattractive. Tldr, buy it if you value these: Universe = cheap, big size, harder plastic for better painting. Damashii = complete accessories, better proportions.
I think it's great, but I wonder what toy stores in the USA are going to carry this because while model kits used to show up in toy shops and in malls back in the day, they were mostly removed and now these days mostly kept up strictly in hobby shops.
I am nearing 40 and THIS is the Gundam for me. I tried returning to Gundam kit building some two years ago and I will admit I am no longer as passionate building them, not to mention not having the same good eye sight and a few hurting finger joints. I have also become impatient since I just want to see the figure. THANKS to the panel lines, at least there is still a hobby to do there for me. I can add panel line accent on those myself to make them pop-out even more. Add a little weathering as well too. I think this line of product got me. THIS is the Gundam for me! I am growing old and have other things to do as well. The time needed to build a kit isn't exactly a hobby for me anymore. Collecting, yes. The price point of this product is also spot on. I hope they never hit any price higher than 30 USD through the years and I wish Bandai success on this line!
I didn’t get this one, but I got the other two, I liked gundam as a kid and wanted to get back in to them but didn’t have time to fool with the model kits, so I really like them
I just came here to figure out how to put the wings in. Turns out brute force was the answer. I bought this so I wouldn't have to put it together, as I still have an unfinished Wing Zero HG sitting on my table after like a year. It took a while and the leg fell off, but it was all pretty easy to put back together. I like it well enough, but I think that if I was going to get another Gundam I'd just go ahead and stick with the one I put together myself, even if I'm too lazy to do it!
No beam saber? No bird mode? Not HG or MG scale? Gonna be a miss for me. Snap, I was thinking of getting the Deathscythe, but it won’t work with the HG Wing and upcoming Sandrock.
I mean, cut the figure some slack, one of the main reasons these are being made are basically to be a budget Robot damashii for those who don't wanna build/spend too much.
I saw you on hlj tonight lol must be sweet to live in japan and im glad im not the only fan of the age series. I was shocked when you said as i felt like i was the only fan really lol. The Wing Gundam honestly might be the only one I get because it looks like the only one better than its 1/144 counterparts (Not including the RG since that's basically the Wing Zero with different wings and colors)
Great review, as always. It's an interesting figure. Not sure if I'm going to buy it since I enjoy assembling the kits myself. I have a few questions though: Since it's between HG & MG, is it similar to Frame Arms in size? If so, then MSG weapons will fit like a glove. How does the plastic feels? And can it handle painting and topcoating? Is it possible/easy to disassemble?

TheKrowSama Sorry 2 hear that, the Wing Gundam action figures, both the 5" & the 11", as well as the gunpla versions of it can change into & out of Bird mode. W/ the head & legs rotated backwards, while the search eye & torso is pointed downwards, w/ the shield attaches 2 the back 2 cover both the face & head while the buster rifle attaches 2 the shield, while the shoulders retract backwards & inwards, & the talons on its forearms acts like a pair of landing gear (this is my initial guess). The shield acts like the nose of its Bird mode. Without the shield, it cannot change into its Bird (aircraft) mode.

Personally, I think these Gundam Universe figures are going to fail. You need to remember that the model kits sold pre dominantly in Asia, where SOME hobby shops in the US carried these kits. That right there shows that its customers are mostly Asian audiences. But then comes the introduction of TOONAMI , aired on Cartoon Network where Western audiences get their first Real taste of Gundam.... 19-20 YEARS AGO. Since then the kids who grew up watching these shows, end up becoming fans of the series, and buy these model kits that are strictly manufactured in Japan. Fast forward to 2019. The Gundam series no longer airs ON TELEVISION. Some may argue that its available on streaming services, but my rebuttal is; so is everything else. Why watch Gundam iron blooded orphans when I can watch Transformers Prime; Bumblebee being the more familiar character, a CHILD is going to choose Bumblebee over a mobile suit. TV back then forced you to watch another TV show, before you could watch what you really wanted, (you had to wait until Gundam Wing was over before you could watch Beast Wars) and that’s how the Gundam gained notoriety. Gundam itself as an IP will never fail, building a loyal fan base of people who had no choice but to BUILD their favorite suits, and though I commend Bandai for making pre assembled suits to cater younger/new audiences, I just have this to say. Being a cool looking robot can only get you so far.
