"Badges ? we dont need no stinking badges!" is the widely quoted line from "Treasure of the Sierra Madre" and famously repeated in "Blazing Saddles". The actual line of dialogue reads - "We have no badges. In fact, we don't need badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges,"
It makes me laugh each week when you're reading out the fantasy footy top ten, and joey ate the frogs legs seems to be in there quite frequently, cos it was that game that cemented me as a Liverpool fan back in '77 ...
mandela affect is likely because when you remember something, you're not remembering the original event, you're actually remembering your most recent recall of it. You're remembering your most recent memory of the thing. When the memory gets compromised, you will remember the compromised version, not the original event, without realizing it.
That's interesting, because to me,, Memory is a movie I can watch over and over again and nothing ever changes in the memory It always plays out the same way ever time I re watch them That's because your Amygdala records everything that ever happens, except interestingly enough "thought" , you can never remember what you were "thinking" Now because when the feminine gives birth she is flooded with oxytocin to help her forget the event, We know that oxytocin stops the recording process This means you are an oxytocin addict and are permanently addicted to oxytocin, and this means you cant remember anything :) And the affect you describe is only appropriate for some 3 brained beings, not all The QED is that I can never remember anything when I'm flooded with oxytocin , And getting a break from being permanently plugged into the eternal HDD is quite something
I think this too, paired with the last time you recall it also having lots of extra voices and information to round it out which means your source of info its not as pure as the first time you recalled it. Or something. haha
Always think the song 'Free Nelson Mandela' gave the perpetual nature of his existence more credence than the fact he'd already died. Anyway, love existential / philosophical chat. Bet Gooners fans don't do this.
Love the show. On the alien randomness watch the Kurzgesagt video on "The Fermi Paradox" which sums it all up nicely. I love all that stuff, I could chat about it for days so i'm all for Copey bringing it up. Up the reds! Thanks.
Being in the Conference League has been a great benefit to Chelsea. They can rest their big guns playing dross and still get the confidence up by thrashing nobodies. They're also out of the league cup, so the load on them likes of Palmer and Enzo has been fairly light. A third thing is they've played a fair few games against the top 10 at home so far, so they've still a load of games away to the best teams to come, and the reverse is true; they've played loads away to the weak sides.
Another great podcast lads. I love the big picture view you'se take over not just the Reds, but the league and footie in general. As much as a lot of the comments here are about Copey sounding a bit spaced out, I'm most affected by Gareth having a little gallows with Buttons from the pantomime hanging off it right at the front of his desk. Not at Christmas, mate. UTFR!
Play it Again Sam was a play/film written by Woody Allen that references Casablanca/Humphrey Bogart. That's why people assume it's said in the original.
"Statistically the best keeper in the league" - We statistically had one of the best defences in the league (in terms of goals conceded) under Evo. The reality suggested otherwise!
United are back where they traditionally belong. Ferguson heights aside they have never been particularly 'dominant'. They have just been 'in the pack' really. I remember way back when they went down into the old 2nd Division. Hilarious. They've always had SOME good players but have never been particularly untouchable. They were always pretty much just another 'good team from the North'. People forget these things, as I say, particularly after the Ferguson era. I'm afraid that was it. Good, but just it. Bye bye entitlement! Woody Allen put out a film way back called 'Play It Again Sam', based on exactly the misconception of that quote... Fancy being able to channel Martin Bashir!! 🤭
@@redboyjan And one of THOSE borrowed most of our reserve team when what was left of their team were in trouble. Goes to show what good neighbours we are/were eh?
They're not mis-remembering, they're mis-quoting. In charades or drunken games, people say funny things that are better than the original line and then that becomes legend, or repeated stories.
My favourite mandela effect is: what was that animated cartoon show from ages ago with dick dastardly and his mates in planes and there was a pigeon? It had a catchy theme song too. I could swear it was called Catch the Pigeon but its not apparently, its called Stop the Pigeon and thats what the song says. Look it up.
Jim, Mr INEOS, is the king of Brexit. He has shown repeatedly that he doesn't care about the country and ordinary people. The actions you describe at ManU don't surprise me at all.
James Bond movie, The jaws character had a girlfriend in one of the movies. I remember her with braces, but actually she doesn't. Anybody else remember her with braces?
41:44 The line "Luke, I am your father" is from The Simpsons episode with Lisa and Bleeding Gums Murphy th-cam.com/video/PX05DJWNj3k/w-d-xo.html Just one of the infinite number of spoilers that show has done.
That Mandela effect chat sounds like one of two things: cod-psychology or something real but misused in this case. In the Australia/NZ geographical position example, you stated four cardinal points and guessed wrongly where you thought it was. There was no collective memory affecting your thinking because potentially a greater number of people would remember that NZ is south east of Oz and that collective would influence more people. There's nothing wrong with loads of people being sh*t at geography, just look at the United States. The vast majority of Yanks have no requirement for global geography because for most of their lives, their entire world is the continental USA. Just looked it up. A clinical psychologist described the Mandela Effect as an effect that, " occurs when a group of people becomes immune to the truth, for no reason other than the fact that they've somehow convinced themselves of an alternative." The phrase was coined in 2009 by a paranormal researcher called Fiona Broome who herself believed that Nelson Mandela had died in custody. So it's bollox, basically. Any way Up the Reds!
Mandela effect close to home - people constantly misquoting Shankly saying he’s “very disappointed in that attitude” about footy being life and death. There’s footage of him saying what he actually said and it still gets misquoted all the time.
The top of NZ is level with Canberra and bottom is further south than Tasmania so I'd call that South East Most Americans couldn't even find it on the map
I would like to see the stats of age regarding the Mandela effect. I think the older you are, the less Mandela Effect is a consideration. I'm 60 and know where NZ is and Nelson Mandela passing away of old age, outside prison.
Mandela affect is interesting but not as interesting as human npc or this one... when we talk in our heads we hear our own voice. Some humans don't do it . Its just death silence in there heads . They process things different
Great show Gareth and Paul.
You have this unique ability to make the viewer feel they are with you.

Arsenal remind me of the kid in a high school movie that hangs around with the cool group but is just a complete try hard
Dublin / Liverpool / Glasgow : music, craic, sports and a dry dark sense of humour
My friends are in Antarctica right now and it costs $12000 per person. Probanly the biggest barrier to such an expedition.
