- With the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots ending last for the fifth time in the last 10 years, Machel enters the studio to ask what is wrong with the Patriots?
CPL 2024 has not been a vintage tournament and with St Kitts and Antigua stinking the tournament up this year we have known the final four for a long time.
Is CPL suffering from the law of diminishing returns?

Well, St Kitts has been poor, but the Tallawahs, now the Falcons, might be a close second as poor. T20 cricket is like fast food, no nutritional value, T20 is mostly a party while some devalued cricket is going on.
They have a good squad but the coaching and management is terrible. This looks like a money laundering franchise lol😂

Mach, valid point. However, I think the need to scrap CPL and go back to the original format. Caribbean Championship and let players represent their own island. If it bouls down to only 4 or 5 islands for now, so be it. We do not need the foreign players. I read comments by GAW fan on fb boasting about their team because they won in 2023. But guess what, it's the foreigners who help them win. None of their home-grown players shone.
Is that really even as financially viable as cpl? Especially in this world flooded with franchise leagues? Whether we like it or not the overseas player bring the foreign eyes.

What a load of rubbish! Get your facts straight before commenting, because it only highlights your ignorance!
If you're genuinely trying to give constructive criticism/bash the tournament or undermine a franchise based on performances by local players, the Amazon Warriors should be the last team on your list. Infact, the main reason why they've been the most consistent team in the tournament, in terms of making 6 finals, was largely due to the strength of the performances by the local players, in conjunction with the foreign recruits. Case in point, last year's edition of the CPL saw Motie, Shepherd along with Tahir being amongst the top 10 wicket takers, while Ayub, Hettie, Hope amongst the top 10 run getters.
Trace all the stats back going back to the inception of tournament and prove me wrong.

St kitts have one of the best teams. Lewis , Mayers, fletcher are some of the best t20 players in the region , then the have nortje , hassaranga who are both world class , they just suffer from bad management, captaincy and lack of identity . No real fan base since it’s just an assortment of random mon.
The Kittitians are the fan base dont get it twisted. Don't worry our time will come again.
The problem is, the team is lacking leaderahip. They constructed a team with no actual consideratuon for who will be captain. No disrespect to Fletcher, he's a good player but not captain material.

Brilliant analysis. I challenged you with the first vid when you spoke about the identity of St Kitts. I was wrong in my understanding in what you said. I thought you were speaking of the small support base. I said they will support the team when its winning and drop the team when they are losing like WI.
But I have a question what is the identity of GAW or TKR. I don't know if I understand identity.. I could see a valid concern. 5 times last.
Now they have won 1 so its not like they don't know how to improve. The team on paper looks ok this year except for Odean Smith and Dominic Drakes.

Are all capable batters. The bowling collectively is trash. Except for Nortje Hassaranga and Nedd.
indentity is about giving fans recognisable people to support who they can connect with. In TKR and GAW sense, that means having a lot of local players. For teams like SLK, it means retaining the same foreign players year after year like Faf and Wiese. Teams like Bados and St Kitts throw out players and buy new ones en masse every year so fans never have a clear idea of who is in the side- thus identity problem.
@@Panda_Steph thats the confusion. GAW and TKR have local players they can identify with. SLK doesn't so they identify with foreign players? Confusing.

I said along time ago it has to have more teams to give more young players a chance. Probably 8 teams in 2 groups of 4.
The pitches in Guyana have been terrible for balanced, competitive watchable cricket matches. And this is coming from a Guyanese. The Patriots have too much talent to be this horrible. And don't getbme started on the convoluted strategy that the Warriors have in terms of their top order. Every match is a different opening combination.
What do you think about emerging players competing in the CPL

Mach, I think you are a little bit unfair with Antigua it's their first tournament and the first two matches they lost in the last over and the last ball and don't forget they beat TKR twice.

Without a genuine draft for players to add to and replace players then there is no hope. Without a supporting league of some sort for up-and-coming U25 local players it has no hope. The Draft system is bust as it allows too many average players in and recycles too many of them. The Draft should only be for emerging young players from the U25 league and a separate one for players ranked in the ICC top 150 in T20 whether they are local or not and all should have to sign minimum three-year contracts. Any other player should be a walk on, and teams should be limited in how many of them they can sign.
The first few years to an extent that is what occurred so even though I hated seeing Narine, Pollard and Bravo play for other countries it made sense for the best players to be drafted like that. At present who is the local World beater for the patriots It should have been Rutherford since Lewis and Mayers have had their struggles and though showing some level of resurgence they are no longer at that level.
You talking that crap but if you look clearly these guys are who you want to be playing for west indies . Lewis , Mayers , Fletcher n a few others. The last time I check the 6 men with the most runs 5 was from the Patriots so tell me even though the rest is winning they too is not doing well. And all of west indies players are failing I mean those that play for west indies. IPL was not good this year as well.
