My 5 suggestions based on what you've said:
    1. Have it in April next year instead of May. Move the last two/three rounds of the 4 day regional into May so they can be better utilised as preparation for the Australia tests in June.
    2. Have a first round for the Leewards (Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Montserrat, Nevis, St. Kitts, Sint Maarten, US Virgin Islands - 2 groups of 4), Windwards (Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent - 1 group of 4) and non-WI (Bahamas, Bermuda Cayman Islands and Turks and Caicos - 1 group of 4). Each group taking place on one island. Top team in each group go into a Super 8 with Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and T&T (2 groups of 4) followed by semi-finals and final.
    3. No more than 3 players over the age of 30 in each roster.
    4. One overseas player under the age of 30 allowed in each roster.
    5. Semi-finals and final done all done on one day similar to T20 Blast. Big party finals day at a rotating venue each year.

great suggestions . .However I believe a system where players who didnt get many chances internationally one to 2 games then dropped whom we may term as " fell off" should be given an opportunity to make it up the ranks . Hence why I believe this venture can also help in Cpl prospects and then eventually the end goal is making the Windies team and competing

@@t.d4143 I'd be happy to have any current/past WI internationals play in this event! Sint Maarten having Keacy Carty would make them more competitive without breaking the competition. Same with a US Virgin Islands team having Hayden Walsh Jr. in it.
A few players like Pooran will be off at the IPL which will create more opportunities for new players to step up.

I love the ideas, and greatly appreciated you sharing the backstory as to why you see the importance for this because I believe that will help all the person who were getting agitated with the recent discussion to not cover CPL (i see it's hurting alot of the followers😂)
I must say when you initially said you will exclude players like Pooran, Fabian etc because of their international success and exposure I was a bit taken a back. But when you explained the point I was full 100 for it!

So what your saying then is Nations
League, but for cricket. I like that idea, particularly the preliminary round. Ideally that round would be a double round robin. But like you said, that’s going to cost a lot of money, so it might have to be single round. I think the next stage would also have to be round robin as well so that youth man from larger nations get a few games as well. Then you can have a knockout round.
I tempted to suggest each preliminary group be based on one particular island to cut down travel costs. Hosting duties can rotate each year

I agree with most of the points Mash. However, I doubt that age restriction is a good idea for a couple of reasons: -
    1. Does the Caribbean have a large pool of youth men?? Sadly no. We seriously lack depth. I mean imagine Domenica playing without a Kavem Hodge. He's 31 right..
    2. You want the youth men to rub shoulders with experienced guys who play in the CPL. You want a Jewel Andrew to face a Permaul when Guyana plays Antigua. You want Johnson Charles to give a bashing to bowlers like Nathan Edward and Isai Thorne so that they get a taste of what being at the highest level is like.
    Bonus..
Any tournament however small requires finances so that it can sustain for longer periods. Players like Johnson Charles, Evin Lewis (If available) are crowd pullers who can give a boost to the marketing of the inaugural edition.
Once we start getting talents..then we can apply age restrictions

I will only look forward to this if every island has a team not windward and leewards . I wanna see Grenada st. Vincent Barbados st. Lucia Dominca etc etc ... that will only strengthen the smaller islands to showcase and develop like trinidad guyana etc .. Make it exiting . If there's too many teams due to quality right now implement a tier system . Anyways I just want every Island have a national team. The tournament can last months which will give players more time playing to maintain form ..Great venture

    1. Having no over 30 players would hurt smaller nations. Maybe have a limit on the amount of over 30s or have it that a certain number of U-25s has to be on the team.
    2. Have Seedings. Jamaica, Barbados, TnT and Guyana obviously should not play first round.
    3. There has to be a stage like for worldcup qualifiers where the smaller nations play each other first. Then move on. Stanford t20 was nice but there were some games where teams were making 70s and 80s all out. That would make the tournament look a lil amateurish, nostalgia can hide things.
    4. There should be two matches a day , a late afternoon match and a night match so that the tournament doesn’t drag on. These two matchs can be in different countries.

I agree with the idea. Can be worked on over time. Maybe you can have a stipulation whereby each squad can have a maximum of 4 players over thirty, with a player that has international experience as a marquee player . (Andre Fletcher, Raymon Reifer. Versammy Permaul for example.) Marquee players and those over 30 should not be allowed to captain.

    1. Plate style tournament to guarantee each team plays four games (e.g. the 9th place team would have a win/loss of LWWW and 15th would have a win/loss of LLLW).
    2. Quota for under 23s (perhaps 3 per game).
    3. Over 30s can play if they haven't been contracted by a CPL team in the previous 2 seasons (or 3 if you want).
    4. Concurrent women's tournament.
    5. If held before the IPL a player could get into the IPL based off performances in this tournament (unlikely but Kwena Maphaka got a call-up).

A Competition like this will have to be created if any team from the west indies is looking to qualify for the next Olympics, Many of the Different Countries that make up the West Indies already compete as Individual Islands (Jam. T&T, Bar, St. Lucia, St.Kitts etc) in the Olympics,So i agree this cant be a franchise competition or combine Islands like Leewards, Windwards, i also agree with the age cutoff, but i think i would be ok with one Marquee player thats over 30.The Next thing i would like is if the competition is held in atleast 3 countries at the same time, so you not seeing everygame on just one or two grounds, holding this competition in March is also a good idea, thats the time of the year with the most favourable weather for cricket, we dont need to worry about IPL either because our timezone is different and because its t20 we would atleast get more viewership than the 4 day and Super 50 Tournaments.

Great post, brilliant ideas - I think one caveat would be could it be held before the IPL ? Maybe not because of the cricket calendar but I’m not sure if the Caribbean audience would not look at the smaller nations qualifying asides from the natives of those teams- though maybe that could be good enough ? .
We should find an exclusive window ideally and maybe split the tournament over the year given your proposal has so many teams. When ever there an appetite for t20 cricket that isn’t fulfill we should cover it and I agree it’s a tournament which will produce a lot of curiosity internationally

  • @CricketDaTashan

One suggestion: Every island team, in 3-5 years time, should have "one" player from the same island, just like a small scouting assignment for the teams, islands and their cricket association.
Like suppose having a Daniel Doram/Keacy Carty in a St. Maarten team as your local region player.
Similarly, for building a cricket ground in each island, but I would like to give a 10 year limit, bcoz funds to create a ground is huge and a sustainable financial programme is necessary in cricket.
Also, FanCode is always ready to sell it to their Indian audience. They already market everything Caribbean cricket from internationals to Super 50 to down bad T10 tournaments.
This is needed big time, bcoz I would never ever like to see a WI Young Players round at a T10 event, which promotes more youth players consistently of WI than the CPL.

  • @joelgullin6650
    @joelgullin6650 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I would suggest these:
1.Make the round Robin games zonal with one host country which would ease transportation cost.
Prove some guaranteed reward to smaller islands for participating so that they would be encouraged.
At Caribbean culture to it. And let the game time suit the workin population of the host island so ppl can support.
For each zone you can pick a best xi and have them all play some one off matches, this would be for talent selection for a A team tour or inclusion into West indies academy.

I might not know much about cricket but the group stage was the first thing that came to mind. Let sixteen countries play across four groups and then who are at the bottom of the groups gets regulated? Let the youth men know the challenges and play straight up hard-core cricket. And when I said the last place should regulated? If Jamaica ends up last in their group, they won't play in the next tournament plus bring in one of the lesser or smaller islands to replace the bottom place each year. Then hold a mini qualifying tournament just before the Caribbean t20 competition each year. What do you think about this plan? Is it a possibility?

  • @AlstonBenjamin
    @AlstonBenjamin 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Playing off of the idea of an Olympic qualifier then to have two qualifiers from each of the Leewards and Windwards groupings. So, a final round of eight teams in two groups based on Teams seeding in T20. However, if it is a qualifier then the best possible teams should be playing. While I can see an age limit to allow teams to reflect what would be their team in 2028, I am not sure if it is feasible considering the current state of cricket to rush to play the next level of cricketers as yet. One thing it would do is allow Barbados to dominate as more of their players get cricketing exposure in the West Indies through CCC and the Academy much less other teams that select their players. The second issue is that by setting the age at 30 it means that the bar may be too low as it still allows teams to stack players who have to date underperformed at FC, List A or T20 levels but yet still continue to be selected while select youth men are tried and are dumped after one failure. It doesn't force teams to look beyond what is in front of them enough to widen the pool. I would set it at the age level of the 2016, U19 team at U28 for the tournament. The vast majority of the players targeted will be who went through the academy and should be the future of West Indies cricket.

Anyone should be able to get an opportunity regardless of their age. Tahir is 45 still going, Dj is still going at 40, David Wiese 39, is still going. Faf at 40 is still going, and i know you may say but they’re to end of their careers, but you never know what someone can accomplish in five to ten years, let’s say they get their break at age 30-31. The point is to give guys who haven’t had the proper opportunity to be seen, seen. You also want mentor like figures within each team to bring their experience and knowledge to the younger players, they will benefit greatly from being able to be in the same dressing room of a Pollard, Hetty, or Pooran. It boosts their hunger, and ambitions for the sport.

But as I said before they need a proper club system. What are the problems
    Logistics
    Inter travel travel
    Funding
    Funding
    Development
    Professionalism
As I said before we need a professional league but played in one country to manage travel costs.
We need to develop long term accommodation for the players
We need a system that would encourage the older and younger players to play together. We need the retired players to be coaches and trainers
All players need to be all format players. So Kraigg Braithwaite should play t20.

Our league need to have clubs like those in the CPL but playing all formats 4day list A t20. The salaries should be paid by the governments of each territory. So Tnt govt pays the salaries of tnt players.
Each club has a 16 player roster. They play 4 day at the begining of the season and later the shortened format or 4 day during the week and limited on the weekends.
The major international companies like exxon bp should be given a tax break to co sponsor these teams with the respective govts.
So lets say the league is hosted in tnt. We have Queens park Brian Lara and guaracara and 2 others can be developed.

    • @RaymondButler-h4x
      @RaymondButler-h4x หลายเดือนก่อน

In 2007 players were being paid to play 1st class league cricket in Trinidad and Tobago. Players like Renako Morton and a few others came to Trinidad and Tobago to earn a living playing cricket. Ricardo Powell played in tnt around the same time. That improved the league as quality players from the region encouraged a higher standard of play. This spawned the Redforce with Lendl Simmons Dwayne Bravo Samuel Badree Sunil Narine Kieron Pollard Denesh Ramdhin Dave Mohammed Ravi Rampaul. These players went on to become runners up in the Champions League in India and formed the foundation of the WI 2 WC winning t20 teams.
We have to replicate something similar. Either in Guyana Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago. And all formats has to be played. The Bravos and Sammys have to coach and bring the experience.

I'm all for youngster. But no the big names how are you gonna attract crowds, which TV channel gonna broadcast this to the viewing public where these games are not being played? Plus we need some the experience players there to guide the youths. Plus it need experience to play against the youngsters or when these youngsters get on the bigger stage they gonna look like fish outta water because they only played there level before. So yes mojority should be youngster but there have to be some experience. My opinion is just like how in CPL it has a overseas limit it should have a experience limit so for example: T&T could have a youngster team but allow like 3-4 experience head in the line up to help these guys or it gonna be like the blind leading the blind. So T&T could have like a pollard narine Seales, an experience batsman, fast bowler and spin bowler. So these youngster can get lead in pressure moments. So when the get to CPL or westindies they are somewhat battle tested. I'm all in on alot of your ideas but they have to have some vets. Look at teams like Chelsea in the prem no experience so they kinda lost, look at rebuilding NBA teams without veteran leadership on the bench they hardly improve and they take stick on a nightly basis. Oh and yes every country should have their own teams but no preliminary. Couple of balanced groups according to how many teams, maybe groups of 4 or 5.

I feel like with so many team the cricket would be weak but instead of so many teams, why not use the stronger islands that play super 50 and have at least two top players from the lesser islands join those bigger cricket island teams. That way you can mix them together slowly while the cricket still being good. As for the age limit I would cut it to 28, that way more youth man can get more exposure. ( These are just my opinions)

Most of the comments seem a bit outrageous and far fetch. Why not have a competition first among the Windward Islands and the Leeward Islands and the winners joining Barbados,Guyana,Jamaica and Trinidad for the final round but to suggest each and every country in the Caribbean taking part is ABSOLUTE NONSENSE.
