When BYD says 1 million EVS I guess it is 1 Million BYD branded vehicles but they are producing cars (entirely or partly) for other brands too and also providing batteries for other brands etc...
My guess is BYD won't catch up with Tesla but will secretly be the EV leader (not in the eyes of the public but for market insiders)!

I think BYD will catch up tesla, remember BYD is the only car company that could build LFP battery in mass scale. And also BYD isnt only selling regular passenger car, they are selling (and dominating) electric taxi, bus, truck and other Utility vehicle.
Meanwhile tesla itself are limited to sell passenger car EV, yeah tesla are developing a demi truck but the progress is slow and unknown

I think for 2022 will be EV against ICE not EV against each others. So far all EV producers can’t keep up with demand. If that is the case then it is a mute point to discuss BYD against TSLA. For EV whoever can produce more and scale up they will lead the EV market. The faster EV is produced the faster the world will transition to EV especially once everyone realize it is cheaper to operate EV and even more when EV is cheaper than ICE vehicle.

    • @mhfs61
      @mhfs61 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Fully agree. EV’s will really compete with each other when 60-70% of the market are EV’s.
Pitting the EV manufacturers against each other is just a distraction. Stay focussed: ICE must be beaten.

One of the big Advantages that Tesla and BYD have in China is that the Swiss Consortium that owns the patent for LFP batteries for the past decade has allowed companies in China to utilize the patent royalty free, as long as the cars are manufactured in China for local consumption. That Patent ends in 2022, in Europe around Jan or Feb and in the United States around March or May (too lazy to look it up right now). At any rate, what this means is that Tesla can begin to utilize the LFP Chemistry in their 4680 cells very shortly in Europe and within just a few months in the USA. This will help them IMMENSELY in the ramp up of production in both the USA and Europe. Just like in China, they will be able to offer the SR Model Y which should help to dramatically increase sales in the USA. The lower production costs on both the SR Model 3 and Model Y will allow them to offer either a lower price on both, or zero percent interest on the purchase or lease of the vehicles. (So they don't dilute the value by lowering the price).

The same people keep going on about LFP patent and there ia a right wing site where they all. quote.
I have never hear anything from any auto or battery maker that they can't develop their own LFP batteries already. The simple fact is, they were overlooked until BYD proved their use, then CATL jumped on the nad wago, and over took them in. the market
Even if battery makers in the States start developing them in 2022, BYD have been perfecting them for a decade; and produce high quality low cost batteries. How will any US or European compete.
Finally, and here the kicker, If they are under patent, how comes Tesla has offered them for some time to customers in the States.???

Tesla is ahead of BYD in the software part of autonomous driving. BYD is really not good at this area, but BYD has mastered all the parts required to produce a car, all of which have production bases in China and reliable supply. This is a huge advantage in the context of unreliable global supply chains.

I would love to get a BYD Tang or Han. In the USA Tesla has a de Facto monopoly on EV's which will end and when Chinese vehicles come to the USA, especially BYD which I see as representing a great value. Seeing as No US Manufacturer cares about making anything affordable for the masses BYD will do quite well. The Model 3 by Tesla Was almost affordable at $35K Jan 2021. It is now $44.6K today. It's not $10K better, no it's just greed. Yet many folks are buying them at the inflated prices. I did as well until I found I wouldn't be able to get in or out of it even if I may finally fit in one. It's way, way too low for a 6'5" 75 year old man with bad knees so I had to cancel my order. Now I'll just keep what I have until BYD or some other sub $30,000.00 manufacture with 200 mile range comes to the market or I get so old that I lose the ability to drive myself.

BYD's valuation is largely about it's product, and far less about having a "hip" CEO or about selling green credits or investing in crypto.
If Elon Musk decided to quit today, TSLA stock would tank straight to hell.

Tesla stock is already at a level that is valued 10 years into the future. They have a steep cliff to climb in terms of batteries and electronics manufacture to catch up with BYD. They don't have product range. They don't build affordable cars. Tesla needs China whereas BYD doesn't need the USA to succeed. It's no contest, Tesla cannot catch up with BYD. The dependence on suppliers for Tesla will be its Achilles heel. Reselling solar cells, batteries for their energy segment cannot compete with OEM's.

That said, they have a good strategy for countries without a decent charging infrastructure over the next 5-10 years. Yes. I am not agree 'people are not interesting PHEV' . The true is people would rather to wait at least 4 months in order to get the new BYD DM-i PHEV. The percentage car ownership in China is low, and the private garage/carpark space are even lower. Pure EV heavily rely on public charger. Pure EV will not replace PHEV until installing chargers on every street parking space. One thing this channel did not mention is that you cannot get a new register plate in major big cities of China unless it is new energy car. That means for first car buyers, buying the new energy car is the only one option.

Also 95% of it's sales are not EV's. I'm not convinced that VW can survive without going through a bankruptcy/big restructuring over the next decade or two. In fact the CEO recently warned about potential massive layoffs in the future if they can't get EV's right. I would much rather own BYD/Tesla stock rather than VW.

It's the "$1" chips which were (are?) in short supply.
Tesla simply didn't cancel their orders, so had a stockpile, then as some production came back, they were seen as the good customer and given (rightly) preferential treatment. Not to mention they are agile, anticipating and adapting before the problem.

The American market will absolutely eat up the NIO swap- off battery and swap-off stations... at $20 -30k for a Tesla equivalent (with slightly lower acceleration... 4.3 to 60) which is more than most people want. SWAP OFF BATTERIES:

@@donjohnstone3707 You miss my point; BYD PHEV go 120 kms, so not ideal but in developing countries which China still is, there is still not enough chargers and most people can't charge from a garage because they live in apartment blocks. So they are a short term fix.
BYD have BEV they can now travel 1000kms, but for that range you pay a premium, and if you live in a tower block and you don't want to sit in line for hours, the cheaper PHEV are why there is a 200,000 backlog for the DMi range.
Also, in Laos, or the Philippines or Thailand, Cambodia, Russi, Ukraine, Uzbekistan - where BYDs NEVS are all on sale now - there is little to no infrastructure, but people still want access to more efficient cars, why can't they have them until the infrastructure catches up.
And anyway, 55% of BYD's NEV sales were BEV, still more than Tels sold in November in China and as demand decrease for PHEV, with infrastructure build out they will change the mix as they did every month last year.

Hi Sam, avid UK supporter of yours here :)
..........I cant help thinking that separating out the commercial aspects into a sub vlog, eg Stock, would make the main channel more palatable for those who support 'going green' and EVs.
For us 'make the world a better place for all' folk, Stock varies between 'no interest (no pun intended!) and borderline offensive / divisive......
I for one am not looking to get rich off the back of converting the planet to renewables / non polluting power but only have interest in the Real benefits Ranging from personal / driving pleasure to more affordable & non polluting all types of transport & heating
Yes, clearly I am aware that investment is a key element to this success, however as a non participant I would prefer not to be continually reminded of those profiteering from this wonderful global evolution that will go down in history as a key turning point for mankind
You can accuse me of hypocrisy as in not wanting to be reminded that we kill animals in order to feed ourselves, by re-packing into more palatable forms such as burgers....however that is just the way we are - I dont need reminding that people are looking to get rich on the back of this evolution...as a consumer, it taints my interest and support for this noble venture.
