    I felt the exact same way with this tag. Like there are lots of books I'm not exactly in the mood to read right now, but I'll probably read them at some point😅... Of course aside from books with specific triggers.

      It's kind of dumb how much an "ugly" cover will dissuade me from reading a book 😂 Six of Crows is the one book that everyone seems to agree I need to read LOL so I'll probably pick it up one of these days. A Little Life is really the only hard NO..way too scared of that one 😅 And thank you! I try to be as positive as possible, but sometimes it's fun to switch it up a little 😈😋

    I despised the Shatter Me book. I love flowery language, but this wasn't even flowery. It was just bad lol. I'm bummed because the end finally picked up and sounded interesting, but I don't think I can handle another book written with that many metaphors that made absolutely no sense.

      I think that series could have benefited from being shorter, because I totally agree! The story was definitely building momentum and I was really curious to see how it would end...but having to read several more books of the fmc felt draining 🥴 lol. And I totally forgot about the flowery writing style! That was also something that was really off putting to me in the first book (I didn't notice it as much in the other books I read) 🙃 lol

    Completely understand Shadow and Bone. I will say that even though the show has the Six of Crows characters, the show sets up the storyline in the duology (almost like a prequel), So if you read those it would be like a continuation to the show, if that makes any sense. 😊 great video btw.

    100% with you on Little Life! I’m very interested in history and let me tell you, there are way too many instances of abuse and tragedy in our past that we should be learning more about to honour people who suffered it. It’s difficult and I understand why some people might be reluctant to do it - what I don’t understand is wanting to engage with fictional tragedy pórn.
    On topic of Shadow and Bone + Six of Crows, I read them, they are good, not great - and definitely overhyped.
    And also 100% agree on Taylor Jenkins Reid! I won’t deny she’s a talented writer, but I find her books about fictional celebrities just so infuriating to read. I’ve managed to get through Malibu Rising and Evelyn Hugo, but I recently decided I need to break up with her few pages into Daisy Jones. I just don’t have energy to cope with another set of awful characters.

    • @jenseereads
      @jenseereads  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      "fictional tragedy porn" 😂 I like to pick up the occasional non-fiction to learn a little here and there, but for the most part I read to unwind and escape, so picking up a book that's guaranteed to make me sob just doesn't make sense for me lol.
      Thanks for the S&B and SoC mini review! I'm learning to trust my initial gut instinct with super hyped books. If they get a lot of hype, but I'm really excited about them - I tend to still really like them. However, if it's a book that I'm ONLY reading, because of the hype - I usually end up being disappointed. I need to learn to just let those ones go, I'm not missing out lol 🙃
      And YES that's exactly it! I like Taylor Jenkins Reid's writing, but her characters are never my favorite. Which is probably why I had such a hard time with the books I did read. I just don't really care about what happens to the characters, so I eventually lose interest. 😅

    And here I am, waiting for my amazon delivery tomorrow with Malibu Rising and Happy Place 🤣🤣 I read Emily Henry's Book Lovers two ? years ago and thought it was fine, but I'm reluctantly low key into her the style of her covers 😂 Same for Taylor Jenkins Reid, I think I read a short story by her and it wasn't anything special but I really like the font for the titles on her covers so yeah... fck me 🙃😂
    Also I totally agree with what you mentioned about Powerless. The themes of that book feels very overly used right now and it made me 100% realize that romantasy isn't for me😬

    • @jenseereads
      @jenseereads  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think in general it's hard for a super hyped book to live up to the expectations/ the attention it gets. As a booktuber I try my best to avoid reviews of books until AFTER I've read them so I can form my own opinion, but it's hard to avoid a books popularity sometimes lol. I think I've been equally excited and disappointed by super hyped books 🙃 But, like you said, I think finding people that have a similar taste to you is a good idea, and also just learning what you actually like as you go. If a book is super popular, but it doesn't sound interesting, I'm learning to just let them go. Those are the ones I almost always feel disappointed by lol

    I must say, the S&B show doesn't do the Six of Crows storyline justice, it's basically a different story. But even though I loved this duology, I wouldn't say it's perfect or for everyone. i do like emily henry, though. read beach read last year and funny story this year, really liked both of them.
    i listened to the audiobook of the silent patient some years ago, not knowing anything about any hype (i only stumbled across “booktube” at the end of 2022 maybe - yes, it’s cozy underneath my rock 🤣), but i really enjoyed it. still my favorite by the author (the fury being second, the maidens last). the cover is abysmal, though. it actually now makes me wonder how i came to buy the audiobook 😂

    every time I see the cover of A Little Life, I get irrationally angry. I am also a never say never, but I'm almost certain that I don't ever want to read that book. I follow a booktuber who reads quite a few classics, and the way she talks about them I'm always like, 'oooh. I want to read that.' but realistically... no, no I don't. I mean, maybe there's a couple I'll try but for the most part, no thank you. a question - if you want to answer. How do Emily Henry and Abby Jimennez differ for you? I find their writings and stories fairly similar - in that it's not just fluff and /or smut.

      As for Emily Henry and Abbey Jimenez...idk honestly 😅 For Abbey Jimenez I like that you get a fluffy fun romance with a "real life" struggle (which totally doesn't sound like I would like it, but somehow it works for me). And there's really nothing specific I don't like about Emily Henry's books, and to be fair I've only read 3 (1 of which I did actually really like; People We Meet On Vacation), but overall I read a lot of romance and those books are just the least memorable out of all of them, so I'd rather read other things I suppose. 🤷🏻‍♀️
