2 Easy Ways To Remove (Star) Torx Screws WITHOUT A Torx Driver! Open A Tablet, XBOX Or Smartphone

  • Today we show 2 easy methods to remove Torx or star screws, often found on smartphones, game consoles like the XBOX and tablets, without the need of a special Torx driver or screwdriver. The first method works well for small screws where the amount of torque is limited, the second for the bigger Torx where the amount of torque needed for removal can be quiet substantial.

    • 4 Easy Ways To Remove ...
    ► YOU WILL NEED
    - A slotted or "flat-blade" screwdriver
    - Some Hex / Allen keys or wrenches
    - A medium baked slide of ham
    ► DISCLAIMER
Always make sure you operate in a safe and secure manner.
For this project this means, try not to stab yourself in the eye with a screwdriver (even if highly tempting)

As a small electronics repair shop owner, there's nothing headache-inducing than seeing a torx screw on one of the laptops I'm about to repair fir the first time. I've been repairing laptops and gadgets for almost a year now, and this is the first time I saw a torx screw on a device in person. It almost got me in deep stressful trouble that I thought I have a complete set of repair tools until these came along. I had to delay the repair for a few more days since I have to rather order online, or go find the nearest shop to get one, which is miles away from home and the shop.

Flat head on a torx ONLY works when the flat head fits perfectly in the groove.
Same with the hex bit, only if it fits snugly in the grove and you dont need much power to break loose ...

These methods work if the Torx screw isn't stuck, so if these methods fail to let you remove the screw, use a rotary tool (like a Dremel) and a small cutting disc and cut a slot wide enough and deep enough across the head to get a big flat screwdriver blade across both slots, and you can generate the torque necessary to remove a stuck Torx screw.

I believe you can still use the flathead method unless your screws are really in there. Either way, a T8 torx driver is only like, $5 on Amazon

the allen wrench works but put a rubber band on it first so you don't strip the screw if a lot of torque is needed

I was trying to open my dewalt battery charger and it looked like a standard Torx screw, i have several torx bit sizes and NONE would fit, come to find out it was not a standard torx screw but a security torx which had the opening in the middle and the screw had that hump in the center to fit the opening on the bit ...
Basturds using a torx security screw ... really dewalt, its a fuking $40 charger, not a $6000 hybrid state of the art brushless blah blah drill ...

Oh, I love you SO much for this video!!! I want to replace the scratching post on my cat tower, then discovered it had these Torx screws (which I didn't even know the name of till just now!). I already have a set of different size hex/allen wrenches, and I just checked, and I have a size that fits perfectly and works!!! Meso so smilen !

    what size was the flathead?

    • @TheLabOtomy
      @TheLabOtomy  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

It depends on the size of the Torx screw, so find a flathead screwdriver that fits tightly in the space between 2 spikes diametrically opposed

look simple if the Torx is not tight. Try that with a extremely tight one and it will strip.

I could also try it on one that is impossible to remove and then it would be impossible to remove
