Oh my gosh, took me a minute, but I remember when they visited the rescue on the Saturday live and showed Saskia. What a wonderful idea for donating to the rescue and for those who are C& C challenged like myself to get a fresh look!

Wow--these are really cool! I like that there's a lot of airflow and the grids will keep hay and poop inside...that means I wouldn't have to sweep every day🎉 Thanks for posting, Scotty!

You should get one and see if Gus can escape it. If I had the space for guinea pigs, I'd get the cages myself.
Those are lovely looking cages. Now the real test will be are they Gus oroof?
Because they are slippery I would guess. I wonder if they would be willing to hire Gus to test them out

I like the look of them, my only concern was the shape of the holes. I wasn't sure on the where they start wide and go narrow if a piggy could get their paw stuck. Would be cool if you could get one.

Hmm, interesting! 🤔 I like how they have vent holes and they definitely look better than regular C&C cages for piggies who climb. I love how they have the option to donate to LAGPR! 😊 I think the holes in the sides would work good with my Midwest Critterville Water bottles. Looks like you might be able to use regular water bottles too
The stretch goal is a purposefully designed water bottle holder but you can use a regular water bottle.
💕Please be careful with piggie feet getting stuck in the higher up raindrop shaped cutouts. If they put a foot through the large part and it slides down to the narrow part, they will need a human to get it out. Stay safe my wonderful piggie friends!🐾🤍🐾

Remember they are 14-in grids therefore a 2x4 is over 10 ft. If this Kickstarter is not backed within the next week, it will not go into production.
Also there are expansion packs so you can make whatever size cage you would like
Looks like a good idea. Clear ones with some ventilation isn't something I've seen before. I also like how they fit together. I do not like the kitcen area though, hay holders aren't the best for pigs. Big piles of hay is what they love.

@@CritterColonyClub You could look at doing a large kitchen box, one that would allow a big pile of hay. If you make one side low like you have in the video and then the other sides taller it would help all the hay not fall out but pigs to jump in. You would want it so multiple pigs could fit in the space at once. Some people prefer to contain the hay piles a bit rather than having it all over so maybe an idea some people like.

That’s a great direction-creating a larger kitchen box to hold big piles of hay while letting pigs jump in sounds like a fantastic variation for piggy parents who prefer to keep things contained but still want their pigs to enjoy plenty of hay. Making it spacious enough for multiple pigs at once is a thoughtful touch too!

I noticed these on Amazon in the past week or two. Thought it was interesting too. 2x3 is a bit small for 2 pigs, but it's better than shop bought cages.
Hi! Our design is very different from what’s offered on Amazon currently. Guinea Colony is using 14x14 tiles and modular design, with expansion packs you can expanded and customized them to any size you like!
They are not the same as the ones on amazon. They are full size grids and the company is much more conscientious about guinea pig needs

@@CritterColonyClub thanks for the correction. I may have seen both at a similar time and assumed they were the same thing. I've had a poorly piggie so have been rather preoccupied with 3am meds and syringe feeding.

It's interesting but nothing I would buy or use. I got my various cage acrylics custom cut at Tap Plastic. I used to get coroplast from Teresa and bought my last cage setup from her website.
I'm just happy that they are trying to raise money for the Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue
Its a nitpick I know, but I love these little guys and gals so much. They shouldnt show pigs in an enclosure like that with no shelter. They should always have a place to hide and retreat. I know I know... small point but it irks me to no end. People who know little about piggies may not be aware, and seeing this ad they may normalize an enclosure with no place to hide. They need cover to fall back to. I like their donating aspect but Im not seeing really how this is better than the typical grid. It will also show dirt and piggy grease and need more frequent cleaning. Still its an option, maybe more stylish.

Generally my enclosures are about 60/40 cover/open space, with the open space at the front where we approach each other. I use a fleece blanket top, or packing paper top, with crumpled paper , boxes, and hides under. I call it their private quarters.

@@ScottysAnimals Gimme a bit and I'll work on that. Probably make a video and upload. Clicking on users brings you to their "channel" so you could find it that way. Nothing beautiful but they feel safe, secure, sheltered, comfortable, and clean, and they have room.

There are a couple other vids there too already of piggies past and present in the same pens.
That looks amazing and if I didn't finally upgrade to a C&C with my last pair of girls, would totally be interested. Now would it still be possible to buy these cages for the LA Guinea Pig Rescue after the kickstarter has ended? I would be definitely up for buying some towards the end of the year if that is possible. Otherwise is there a link for other ways to help? I'd be happy to help via donations for hay and whatever else. But am personally excited for when the time comes for me to adopt when you and Saskia's content has shown me that rescuing a pair of bonded piggies is precisely not just what I would want most but what would help them the most.
At this time they have not successfully met the goal. If they do not meet the goal and the kickstarter is not funded I do not know if these cages will actually be in production. But you can follow them on their TH-cam channel.

I kinda feel the big cutouts defeat the purpose of why people want clear panels to begin with. It sorta destroys the illusion of 'no glass at all' But yes if you have a piggie like Gus who climbs it could be very useful. I just like that theres more demand for more options nowadays and that more people are ditching those terrible pet store cages!!
I think the cutouts are probably only visible when the light hits at certain angles
I thought the point was to avoid the pigs from chewing on the grid bars..thats why I would try it 😂
Without the cutouts the ventilation would be compromised. And attaching water bottles might be a challenge

Chewing is such a valid concern, and I totally understand! We actually have a piggy who used to be a big chewer on the metal bars of traditional C&C cages, but since switching to the acrylic tiles, we haven’t seen the same behavior. Chewing on metal can lead to serious dental issues in guinea pigs-some can even lose a tooth entirely, which can result in ongoing vet visits for trimming the opposing teeth, and that can get expensive. So while it's important to rule out causes like boredom, if your piggy is a chewer, at least with acrylic, you're avoiding the risks that come with metal bars.
@@CritterColonyClub I also noticed there is no solid base for this, just the liner acts as the base? It would be nice to have a solid piece on bottom for better support.
@@jessicamoffatt5081 We understand the appeal of a more traditional base like coroplast, and while the paper liners have been useful for easy cleanup, we are exploring offering alternative base materials down the line to suit different preferences. Fortunately, since our grids are the standard 14 inches x 14 inches that you see with C&C grids, you should be able to use what you already have or find something online easily for the time being. Our hope is to add more sturdy bottoms ASAP, but we are working really hard on finding the right solution to make the flooring as modular as the walls currently are. One of the issues with coroplast is chewing, but the bigger challenge we are trying to solve is being able to change the floor layout without needing to replace the entire base.
I didn't hear anything about lids. I have cats that would provide a temptation to my cats.
Really great point to call out! At the moment, our Guinea Colony kits do not include a top or lid. However, we're aware of the need to keep curious kitties out, and we’re actively developing one and plan to launch it in the months following our initial release. We plan to continue to add increasing amounts of accessories post-success of this Kickstarter and lids are at the top of the todo list. In the meantime, a practical solution is to use C&C grids, which can be purchased affordably on Amazon as metal shelving. Since out Tiles are the standard 14x14 inches, its fairly easy to swap that out.
That's what I was going to say LOL. But a really cool clip on hinge with a clear lid with good airflow could be cool
SCOTTY I HAVE TWO GUINEA PIGS.THEY'RE BOTH FEMALES, ONE OF THEM LOOKS MUCH LARGER THAN THE OTHER .... CAN YOU PLEASE DO A SEGMENT ON BLOAT
I have information about it in the illness section of my care guide. If you are experiencing bloat you cannot wait for me to release a video. Look on my care guide for information about bloat and GI stasis. Also look at my worldwide vet list because it is not something that you can wait on. Actual bloat and GI stasis is an emergency for guinea pigs. Start by getting baby gas drops and feeding Critical Care.
