268 is my first saw. I have had it for almost 25 years. it has never had a fault except for the carburetor. top model and the quality is amazing. saw without flaw 💪💪💪💪💪
Timing advance and BGD that would be a stout little running saw for a guy that can’t port their own saw. That open port cylinder is a pretty decent design as you seen in the pictures I sent
Also, in AK. if you go into a bar and ring the bell, you are expected to buy the house a round. And if you go behind the bar and don't take off your hat,.....buy the house a round.
Very respectable improvement considering the size difference in the wood👍 just got that same tach for Christmas! Interestingly, it was sold through echo and had a yamabiko label on the package.
Very nice work and a good result at the end. Gotta love a good deal on an old saw. I have new and old saws both but one of my favorite saws is one that was given to me cause it wouldn’t run. I put a carb kit in it and it runs great. Love the videos. Keep doing your thing and enjoy your trip to Alaska.
I have one of the earlier 268s. It has a metal brake handle, I'm thinking '86ish from the serial number. Anyways, i heard the 268 has 2 or 4 open ports. I heard you can use a 266 cylinder head that doesn't have as many open ports, thus, enabling more power. Have you done any mods such as swapping heads?
How does that affect the idle? Is that o-ring open to crankcase pressure just like the crank seal? Seams like it shouldn't be, otherwise what is the point of the crank seal?
@@novicelumberjack the crank seal on those is in the oil pump so the o ring seals the outside of the oil pump. All the 61 thru 272 saws and the 21 thru 288 saws have this o ring. The 281 thru 288 use a bigger o ring but it the same setup. Normally causes just enough of a oil leak to run funny.
I guess that shows how much more torque the saw gained, with the log being that much bigger... Looks like a full 2 inches, which would be 18-20% more area cut in a similar amount of time. Substantial.
@@eurokid83 Yeah they used atleast 4 different mufflers on the 266’s , the later xp ones where hollow on 266’s but on the 61 and 66 had baffles. all the later 61,268,272 i have seen though had a hollow can.
@@coreycorp7048 yeah I read a old service bulletin stating after a certain year these saws came with the non baffled muffler. I’ll have to check it again to see what year that was.

Often the clutch spring goes soft causing chain to run on, idle speed is where the motor is happiest.. Nice work on mod. Mig is great tool.

That’s a nice saw and with a little port work that could be kicka$$

My buddy stump shot has a video of an open port 268 he did that’s noodling 36” with very aggressive pressure. They are actually great saws

Add an old license plate to the pole at Watson Lake during your tip to Ak.

Thanks for sharing how you modify your mufflers.
Happy New Year! Very much enjoy your content. Keep up the great work!
Great details on that modification. Thanks

It sure take some patience making mufflers and modifying them . Nice job man
There's an oring on the PTO side. They are notorious for that.

Did you have the dry needling done 2 your neck also?
Those saws have a o ring behind the oil pump along with the crank seal. The o ring is almost always gone on them.
How does that affect the idle? Is that o-ring open to crankcase pressure just like the crank seal? Seams like it shouldn't be, otherwise what is the point of the crank seal?

Despite the results, the saw sounds stronger, and it doesn't have that ping note to the exhaust!

Tennis elbow is caused by your wrist and finger motion. Strap your wrist when turning screw driver and alike.
It definetely sounded stronger.
Good job
Ya know what is bueno? That Iowa Performance Saws hat! Muy. Now send me that 268 for my hoard.
👍👍
WOW. I'm impressed .awesome
Im looking at a 268 for like $400 from a women, what shall i look for when i go and check it out so i can knock the price down more.
For $400 it better be fucking perfect.
@@novicelumberjack Thats $400 in AUD Australia I'm based.
Thats the first 268 muffler i have ever seen that had a baffle inside. All the ones ive seen where a hollow can.
I know the 266SE has the baffled muffler where the XP version doesn’t. From what I’ve seen the non XP models had the baffled muffler.
