Genesis Owusu is awesome! His singing is so cool. Can be crazy bassy right up to a nice, smooth falsetto. I'm from New Zealand but I used to live in Australia so I have a lot of propensity towards their music. That country has a lot of fantastic music coming from it. When I was wee, we used to listen to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Powderfinger in the car. Music from Australia takes me back to those happy times living there as a kid.
Funny seeing Nick Cave juxtaposed with happy times. It reminds me of Rufus, this older dude that ran a used CD/Record shop in my hometown back in the day. He was talking about seeing Nick Cave play, god only knows when, but sometime before the late 90's I think, maybe the very early 2000's. Rufus said the band came out, of course the lights were low with just one super soft spot on the mic stand, then Nick walks out, and stands there for a minute. Then he said Nick leaned up to the mic and said "tonight there are no happy songs," and then broke into the set. I've always loved that story.
Dang this theme resonantes heavily with me. In my opinion; if life is meaningless, then we have the freedom to put whatever meaning into life that we choose. Surreal to hear someone else talk about it. Thank you Anthony and Genesis for doing this interview!
Seen him 4 times (I Live in Melbourne) and also saw him open for Tame Impala, incredible shows, always! He also played a Free show at St Kilda fest earlier this year
He killed it at Tame. I saw him at Forum before that and he was even better when he opened for Tame. Super excited for his festival hall show at the end of the year
What an inspiring, thoughtful and talented dude! Of course an album this good could only be produced by such a person. Loved this conversation and all of the insight.
Anywhere I see this man I feel the need to remind folks his live shows go so hard his fans collapsed the floor of the Enmore Theatre in 2022!! Hoping to see him when he plays in Meeanjin (Brissie) later this year! ❤
Genesis has always been the prime example that a great band organised by your label, semi decent marketing and flamboyant costumes to boost your live prescence can drive a decent cult following that has 0 actual impact on the larger music scene, local and abroad. The raps, the singing is all mediocre at best. Disconnect yourself from the artist happy to be accredited for the only good elements of the music and focus on the real reason you actually dig the tune, cause it ain't him
I LOVE GENESIS OWUSU SMILING WITH NO TEETH ONE OF MY FAV DEBUT ALBUMS OAT

This is the basic principle of existentialism, a very very popular field of philosophy
Didn't know Genesis loved Berserk! And that the title is from Guts. Super cool
