Thanks for the tutorial! I got an old Atomic Man figure a few years back that needs some TLC. This video looks to be everything I need to help get him back to fighting fit!
Thank you for the info, just got a Mike Power yesterday And it has the same problem with the bionic arm , the sprocket is out of place, now I know how to fix it thank you.
If you turn the knee joint so the domed head of the rivet is facing down, place either a cloth or cardboard between it and your work surface. On the reverse side of the rivet, carefully place a nail punch tip into the flared opening in the rivet and hammer it. Tightening up the rivet fitting will tighten that joint, BUT, you have to be very careful with this or you will crack the plastic and need to replace the whole body section. Be careful - There may be other methods but I have used this process.
what if the toy has an broken part that it's not selled apart, what do i use to recreat the original part?Like the necktie from Egon from Kenner's ghostbusters fright feature collection
That looseness is actually ment to be there, so you can spin the gear with your thumb causing his hand to spin, for the rotating blades you could put in his griping hands
actually Hasbro started cutting the tags out themselfs because they were going to introduce a 10 inch line joe Figure in 76 using bodies purchased from Marx/Gabriel ,But have not settled on a new name, that's the reasons the intruder is so short!but cancelled early Jan 76 and the big trapper has stickers for seats, and the pursuit craft is really tight fit for 12 inch joe., many of the 10 inch outfits were put on G.I.Joe box items at the end of 77-78 wearhouse clear out of old stock.
Gret vidio very interesting. I will lick to see HOW TO REPER A 1977. 8" SUPER JOE? I HAVE ONE. AND DONOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDIO. DO HELP.
Hi Steve, the plastic whitener formula I've used had only been used on white plastics successfully. I haven't used retrobite, so I'm not sure how it would affect clear/transparent plastics.
@@ToyTinkerTim Retro Brite isn't a cleaning product. It's a method of de-yellowing older plastics and vinyls using hydrogen peroxide and UV Light. Never seen it done with clear plastic though.
@@Steve-wo7gt th-cam.com/video/i9uuPrR8VWQ/w-d-xo.html I'm not sure either how hydrogen peroxide based mixes would affect clear transparent plastics. Whitening yellowed plastic is definitely a different thing.
I've added a couple of links now in the video description area. The hands I used in the video were through eBay, that seller isn't offering more at this time, but it's worth doing a search from time to time. Also a link to a on-line retailer who carries reproduction parts for the 12" vintage GI Joe figures and sets. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing the tip! Would someone be able to hear a rattle in the head if they shook it? Just wondering to help others trouble shoot this problem.
I have one of these dolls. Mine doesn't have any shoes. I've forgotten if the doll came with shoes. Do you know if it did originally have shoes? Great video by the way.
No shoes or boots. There is a version done in the UK of this figure that had flocked hair, he came with a jump suit, boots. Here's a link to video I made with some views of original packaging/outfit of this Mike Power Atomic Man figure: th-cam.com/video/GnJuWwV3Y-A/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching!
Seems like availability on replacement hands is never steady, so I check 2 places: eBay, and gijoeelite.com (check under their GI Joe tab for figure repair parts). Thanks for watching!
Glad you like the videos. The body really got a good scrubbing with sudsy warm Dawn dish soap mix. You could use the plastic cleaner on the body as well.
Try a few drops of a liquid floor polish, like Mop and Glo or Quick Shine. Let it dry after applying. It may help depending on what your experiencing. Otherwise it could be a loose rivet in the joint. Go gently on that because the plastic on these figures get brittle with age, try a lighter approach with a spring loaded punch.
Great video! Brings back memories! Might I suggest turning down the background music a bit? Its hard for me at least to concentrate on what you're saying with it so loud. Other than that, again great job!
The upper arm stayed attached to the body. Cleaning it like the torso with some warm water and a little dish soap. You can using a soft bristle toothbrush if it's really grimy. Dry, and finish with the clear plastic polish. Thanks for watching!
Hi Chris, I've really been doing searches on eBay for "kung to grip hands" to get a variety of prices and styles. That's how I obtained the set for this repair.

Fantastic job !
What would you do for a very loose knee joint, the knee on my Atomic man GI Joe flops up and down no rigidity at all.
If you turn the knee joint so the domed head of the rivet is facing down, place either a cloth or cardboard between it and your work surface. Tap the Rivet with finishing Nail punch and 120z Ball Peen Hammer held close to the head on the Handle
Great job especially on that eye

I'm wondering if you could use a clear Lego piece for the eye?
Indrip.clear Polyester Casting Resin and a Tooth pick
We can rebuild him, we have the technology, to build, er, rebuild, an atomic man.

Thanks for watching, and the suggestion of a Super Joe project. 👍
FYI Atomic Man was Hasbro's attempt to compensate with the Six Million Dollar Man.
Would retrobrite de-yellow the clear parts?

Thank youuu
It looks like the eye was pushed in . It might still be in his head.
If you pop the head off you might be able to reuse the original.

Thanks!
Is there anyone making a replacement gear hand for mike's right arm?

Enjoy your videos. Inspired me to undertake this restoration. Did you use the plastic polish on the entire body or just the clear limbs?

Thanks for watching and for the feedback 👍
Turn down the background music. What you have to say is more important. We need to hear you. Otherwise, good info and restoration
Thanks for the feedback. Someone else made a similar reference to the music in the episode.
Toy Tinker Tim yes " No " or Less music
How did you clean the upper half of his atomic arm, let alone take it apart?
The upper arm stayed attached to the body. Cleaning it like the torso with some warm water and a little dish soap. You can using a soft bristle toothbrush if it's really grimy. Dry, and finish with the clear plastic polish. Thanks for watching!

Where can replacement hands be found on the web?
Hi Chris, I've really been doing searches on eBay for "kung to grip hands" to get a variety of prices and styles. That's how I obtained the set for this repair.
Cotsworld collectibles
To remove yellowish plastic on toys use hydrogen peroxide in a container and ultraviolet light.
Do you repair talkers for a fee?
I got one today, he’s missing a right foot and a right arm but his gripping hand is completely inta
do you really have to have the annoying music in the background
Hello, could you change your seventies music. I like to hear what you say but can't stand your music for your videos. Thanks.
Your clothes and Joe's should be washed, dried and presses inside out.
