  • Learning how to make homemade flea spray for dogs will save you money and reduce your pet's exposure to harmful chemicals and toxins. The only supplies you'll need for all 3 recipes are:
    - apple cider vinegar (amzn.to/2Vlquyc)
    - lavender/peppermint essential oil (amzn.to/35fz32j)
    - lemon slices
    - water
    Full written instructions here: topdogtips.com/...
    You can make an entire bottle of homemade natural flea spray for just a few cents. It will save you a lot of money when compared to commercial flea sprays, and it's much healthier for your dog.
    "Fill an empty spray bottle halfway with water and then add apple cider vinegar until it is full. This homemade flea spray for dogs is effective at repelling fleas, but it stinks. If you don't want your pooch to smell like apple cider vinegar, you may want to try another option."

    Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

      Essential oils can be toxic to dogs unless they're diluted. Water and vinegar won't dilute them, only a carrier oil. So while the vinegar is great for repelling fleas, please DON'T use essential oils unless you dilute them correctly. Check for information on line.

    Good afternoon everyone. I hope you all are well during this pandemic. Just a little additional info involving essential oils... oil and water dont mix as we all know so to help with the essential oils, add a drop or 2 dawn dish detergent to your spray bottles. Stay safe and healthy everyone!

    • @kevinmauricio4747
      @kevinmauricio4747 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Why does dish soap help with the essential oils? So like 3 drops of the essential oils and 3 drops of a dish soap like dawn?

    • @shanitrapotier583
      @shanitrapotier583 4 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      @@kevinmauricio4747 you can add however many drops of essential oils that you think you need but remember that a little goes a long way. They are very concentrated and too much can burn the skin AND some oils are toxic to animals so do some research if you use ones other than what she recommended. Anywho, The dish soap helps to seperate the oil molecules so that it can bee evenly distributed in the water. Of course the bottle will need to be shake each time you need to use it bc the mixture will seperate. Hope that helps.❤

    I just applied this treatment on my 5 month old puppy, and although she hated the smell but enjoyed the "game" of being sprayed outside, once I turned her on her back I could see the fleas congregating to the hairless part of her stomach and I could pick them off! What a great instant remedy, that is chemical free, cheap and actually works. Thanks heaps from Australia :)

      Essential oils usually need a carrier ie: maybe olive oil or baby oil and also an emulsifier to help mix it into solution ie: washing up liquid or maybe castile soap. washing up liquid normally contains Borax which will also repel insects...great vid though

    I am an animal communicator for over 20 years. Dog can smell hundreds of times BETTER than we do! When we use essential oils on them, when we use fragrant shampoos, it is really very cruel. Let's imagine someone took two little perfume bottles and stuck the little neck up each nostril and you had to smell that all day long, all the time!!!!!!!!! That Intense Fragrance all day and all night! It would drive you Crazy! Some scientist estimate dogs can smell thousands of times better. Some dogs can now smell cancer in people before our machines can locate it. When you use these things on them, they cannot get away from it. It makes them feel sick, unhappy, and all kinds of things as each dog is different. PLEASE consider what the dog must endure 24/7, just to make YOU have them smell nice! They can locate drugs hidden inside a can of gas! So Please, please try and use UNscented things on your dogs. Leave the vinegar out in a bowl over night and most of the smell will be gone. Your dog will Appreciate that. Think about this. Some anti barking collars use Essential Oils in them that spray a little to stop a dog from barking because they HATE the smell so much! Thanks for what you do and remember, dogs can smell thousands of times better and more than YOU can! BE considerate! Be kind. It's hard when they cannot talk to you and let you know how challenging the fragrances are. That is why most dogs will roll in the grass and other things right after a bath in an attempt to Rub OFF the fruity smells! They try and let us know in many ways! Thanks again!

    I've tried every natural remedy I could find on the internet, these 3 included, with minimal results. If your pet has a moderate to severe flea infestation, natural remedies alone won't do the trick (in my personal experience anyway). Any space your animal spends time in MUST be treated. Example: if you have fleas in your yard/house/whatever, put some straight apple cider vinegar on your skin and expose it to the flea-infested area. I've done this with multiple natural do-it-yourself sprays and was still bitten in similar numbers as when using nothing. I'm definitely not saying these treatments cannot be a useful tool, but they won't magically get rid of any moderate to severe flea problems (again, this is my personal experience).

    Why apple cider vinegar instead of just white vinegar? Apple cider vinegar attracts fruit flies. And it's more expensive. Isn't it the vinegar acidity that they don't like? Or do fleas for some reason just like apples? Or they dislike apples? Come on now! I find it hard to believe that it has to be apple vinegar. Can someone please explain why it has to be apple? Or else get some expensive red wine vinegar! The stickier the better right? And we all love fruit flies!
    It has to be the acid in the vinegar that repells the fleas. And that same acid is in the distilled white vinegar without the organic residues.

  • @ljsmooth69

    You don't have to use apple cider vinegar you can use regular white vinegar the vinegar smell like if you were to use it to deodorize your house doesn't last as long as if you were to use apple cider vinegar it lasts the smell of the apple cider vinegar lasts forever the white vinegar it lasts about 5 7 minutes and then it doesn't smell anymore when you put it on a dog that's a different story everything stinks when the dogs wet.

    Vet sites say it's toxic but I assume that a few drops of peppermint oil in a big spray bottle would be okay. 4 pound Chihuahua. Crossing fingers.
    Update: used this method left the solution on her for a few hours then gave her a bath. Was unbelievable the amount of dead flees that were in the tub. Did it a second time for good measure. It's been 4 days, I check several tines a day for flees but haven't found a one! This works!
