This help us to realize that the thoughts we believed were our thoughts actually were the narcissistic person thoughts. We as “victims” need to start by identifying our own internal voice and the narcissist internal voice; this is the real challenge. Thank you Dr. Sam, your videos has been very helpful in my healing journey. 🎉
Thank you. Long before I was looking closely at narcissism, I learned about extrinsic vs intrinsic values, and saw most of the Chinese/Asian culture around me as extrinsically driven. If someone did anything out of their intrinsic values, it was seen as nonconformist, sometimes outright wrong and noncompliant (explains a lot of my growing up--I swear I was the least-Asian Asian person I knew--I was also extremely bookish and learned more admirable values from fiction than my adults). I'd not connected extrinsic values to narcissism, but it makes a LOT of sense. And much of traditional Chinese culture is obsessed with face-saving. Which now I cannot unsee as narcissism. The behaviors certainly have massive overlap.
I could even be narcissistic and have extrinsic values, but I have an almost extreme phobia of fame, my image, the way I behave in the eyes of others. I'm tired of being an irrelevant burden and at the same time I'm afraid of becoming more relevant and confident.
if you want to see a perfect example of narcissitic parenting look at the american tv series "everybody loves Raymond" form the eighties last century. Presented with humor but in itself painfully accurate about narcissism!
Good morning my friend! Confucius said it first. From "The Analects" at 4:16 'Confucius said: "The Superior Man is aware of Righteousness, the inferior man is aware of advantage." ' Is this not really the same thing as the quote from Dorian Grey?
@@samvaknin This is good news, that a person doesn't have to remain trapped in the extrinsic value system. Does this mean a narcissist can possibly have intrinsic values?
You’re the reason I feel empowered against my narcissist. Thanks.
The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of the best novels ever written. Vaknin displays his exquisite taste yet again. 😊

This is so thought provoking! 👍🏻Thank you, Pr Vaknin!! This should be taught at school!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. The help you are giving people through your knowledge and your honesty about it will live on.
You have given me so much comfort in something I can’t control in someone in my life

Food for thought there!
Stalin noted it is not the empirical result of an election that decides a political result - who counts the votes is critical 🤔
wait! im not the center of the universe? lol Thanks Professor
These thought are full of substance😅
Is it possible to transition from extrinsic values to intrinsic values?
Yes.

Sheeple 😂😂😂
Man made catastrophic climate change - the climate now doesn't threaten adverse change but 'boiling' as some UN prophet brayed recently😂
