If any action figure line is going to push the envelope, it's not going to be Gundam Universe. The chunky aesthetic makes the Leo look awesome though, it's the only one I've bought. I always assumed the exact scenario you made up is the primary demographic for these, some guy who watched Gundam Wing 25 years ago and has $25 to spare gets one while doing errands or such. Must be why the Wing ones look so nice.
That's me. I'm the guy who watched Gundam Wing and the winged Gundam was the first GU toy I bought at Barnes N Noble. I just got Gundam Deathstyche Hell EW a few weeks ago.
Gundam Universe certainly are no Vitruvian Mobile Suits, but this looks like one of the more poseable entries. This nails the look of the 1/100 NG Red Frame, but my pinnacle aesthetic is the MG, let’s say the silhouette shift is in the upgrade to the Kai. Gundam Universe is merch, like a Transformer figure that doesn’t transform, or even pose. This is for the people who like Gundams but don’t like to build, or the Astray nut who already has all the kits and the posters and the sheets and the acrylic stands and gashapon and the daki. Astray for life.
@@TheKrowSama looking forward zo it, besides Wing Zero EW it is my favorite Gundam and GU figure, absolutely loved your GU Wing Zero review. Greetings from Germany 😁
Don’t listen to this idiot. I build the kits and have purchased a few of these figures as well. They are good for the money. I don’t know what this reviewer is yapping about
I have the Gundam Astray from Gundam Infinity. And it came with 3 times the accessories (Sword, Gun, Shield) . Gundam astray is going for a Samurai motif but Samurai did use guns during the 15th century.
Definitely not worth it as it is missing a lot of the colors from the original design and articulation is okayish at best. The HG with the Flight Unit is way better deal for your buck.
naked ankle joint, fingers are not red, not a single decal on one shoulder pad. I will not wonder they will milk this again for a deluxe pack with a flight unit and rifle. And I'm gonna wait for that.
I've been a Gundam fan since the 2000's. I don't consider myself super into Gundam or the hobby of building Gunpla. I got my first Gunpla a few months ago, HG Calibarn and really enjoyed the building experience. While I enjoyed building the kit I do enjoy just grabbing the universe figures as I can enjoy them straight out of the box. And that's exactly what this line is for. It's for people who don't want to build and don't want to spend the extra money on the metal builds. These will never be highly articulated or come with all the accessories as it's a budget line. I don't know why anyone would expect anything more from this line. You can look at any other toy line in this price range and you get the exact same. In the future I will be getting more kits, and I have the Gundam Universe line to thank for it.
@@aShinySuicune I think it is because these are aimed for an American audience but even though it is a budget line, there are companies during way better figures for the price. I don't really expect them to be absolutely top tier figures or near the level of something like RD though and if anyone is satisfied with it right out of the box then that is fine, it is just that even for budget figures, they can do better which Bandai showed before.
@@miragebangbravern Yeah good point. I can agree with that. I thought about it more after making my comment and I can definitely think of a few lines in the $20-30 range that are absolutely amazing for that price point. Bandai can definitely do better with this line but I don’t know if they will ever improve it.
I know you tried giving some positive points about it; but seriously, I'm surprised the line is still going 5 years and counting with this kind of quality....

"do better" is probably the best way to describe any Gundam universe figure.
imo this is the best looking astray available aside from the pg and metal build. hope they make a flight pack for it down the road
* My brain goes and thinks back of Playmate's TMNT action figures: the Gundam version. Packagewise and accessorywise*
Now this concerns me since Playmates bought the PR toy line from Hasbro. Although power rangers have one to two melee weapons plus a gun.

Great, the first review of GU Astray, and from KrowSama, very nice.
but GU Barbatos Lupus Rex review......when? 😭
Thanks fam and this week!

the other katana's name is tiger pierce
Originally tempted to buy it because I'm an Astray lover, but after this review.....I have a 2nd thought already

i wonder if these do well in the japanese market

They couldve actually went bonkers with the proportions with this one and its prolly will be a plus
My favorite Astray is 侍ノ弐 Sengoku Astray Gundam from Build Fighters. I'm still hoping for an RG of it.

It looks worse than the "new" HG
The astray is my favorite suit if all time and thus is bumming me out.

I can just buy a model kit and put it together myself lol
The only way I get a Gundam universe figure if it's under $10 😆

Some figures are good like 00 QanT and Sandrock but some are meh like Exia. I think this line is mostly hits and misses
It's a budget friendly action figure and the cheapest from Tamashi Nations so I don't have much of a complaint for their every release.
Would have been dope if they included the BCue head 😎
Do I have to buy the action bass separately?
@@MesenthiaRicardo sadly yes

That thing costs ¥500 more than the RG...
