    I was asked my opinion on bone broth. Should you consume it? Let’s talk about this.
    People usually eat a lot of muscle from animals, but not the rest of the animals. They eat a lot of meat from chicken, beef, lamb, and pork. The problem with this is that muscle is very high in methionine, an amino acid, whereas bone broth provides glycine with a different amino acid profile.
    I also recommend consuming some organ meats too. The liver is the easiest to consume. You can get it in pate. My favorite is from US Wellness Meats, which sells liverwurst that also contains the heart.
    When you consume bone broth, you can help your sleep and lower your blood sugars, along with building up your neurotransmitters. It will also provide gut support and joint support.
    Bone broth is simple to make. Here’s an easy bone broth recipe:
    ● Three pounds of bones, preferably from a farmer’s market
    ● Put two gallons of water in a pot then add the bones
    ● Add two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and let everything sit for 30 minutes so the acid can help break down the minerals from the bones
    ● You can add herbs, spices, vegetables, and sea salt.
    ● Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 12 to 24 hours
    The longer the broth simmers, the more nutrients are extracted. Your goal is to extract minerals, nutrients, collagen, and amino acids from the bones.
    Let it cool, then strain the solids from the liquid broth. Store it in glass jars. I use it in soups and stews.
    You can also buy pre-made bone broth. I like the broth from a company called Kettle and Fire. They use animals that are grass-fed, pasture-raised, and organic. They offer several flavors with excellent ingredients and no sugar or fillers. Their products are very keto-friendly.
    So my opinion is yes, definitely consume bone broth!

    I drink bone broth everyday (after breakfast and dinner) and it healed my gut. I used to get inflammation all over my body all the time.

    Make it in an instant pot in the morning and by the afternoon it's ready, without any additional effort. We do this twice a week and it really isn't a big effort and not expensive in the least.
    Chicken feet are best with pig ears, feet or tails. Beef, Turkey, lamb or chicken bones for a variety works, it's all good.
    Add a generous helping of sea kelp for trace minerals and some fish heads when available, anything with collagen works.
    I add cayenne pepper, a little more ACV and a generous helping of coconut oil before putting it hot into a bullet blender and serving.
    Don't have it every day but most days, my skin, nails and hair have never been happier along with my stomach and internal organs.
    It's a great way to break a fast, personally I do 18 hours most every day and have never felt better. Lots of compliments every day, I seem to have gotten 10 years younger.

      I find chicken and smoked pigs feet and ears or a pork hawk makes the best jell but sometimes just fish or turkey or chicken.
      We always mix it up but never more then 2 main ingredients.
      When serving we also add cream of tartar before we blend it with coconut oil and cayenne pepper if we feel we need a boost of potassium. We always add fish oil with the vegetables when putting it into the instant pot.
      There are some good recipes on Utube.
      It really is easy once it becomes a part of your routine.
      It's something your body will soon crave.

      I make homemade bone broth every other week. Except I put it in a crockpot for 30 hours on low.
      Ingredients:
      Package of bones
      3 whole carrots cut in 1 inch pieces
      3 celery sticks cut in 1 inch pieces
      1/2 onion pulled apart
      2 tbsp ACV
      When done(slightly warm still), I strain it into a large glass container to leave out veggies. Let sit till almost room temp. Then stick in fridge overnight or till fat layer is hardened on top. Remove hardened fat layer. Measure and put into jars then refrigerate.
      Makes about 10-12 jars.
      I use it to break my 16 hr. daily fast.
      I add the following after heating up 1-2 mins.
      1-2 tbsp MCT oil
      1/2 tsp cream of tartar
      Several dashes of:
      Pink sea salt
      Ground pepper
      Cayenne powder
      Ground Turmeric
      I’ve used bone broth and IF for well over a year now. Just turned 50 and I swear by this routine. My body, joints, skin, hair and nails have greatly benefited.

    In Spain we eat a lot of bone broth in its own and add it to meals. My favorite its a dish from Madrid call " Cocido " its made with bones of cow, chicken and pork plus lots of veggies, boil for at least 5 hours . Every time I am not feeling well with cold I have this and I instantly feel much better and taste delicious .

    I started to make fish broth with the fish I catch out of the lake and river. It's amazing what it did for me. No more aches and pains. Used to take me forever to get out of bed due to stiffness.

      That's not true for the island of Cyprus. Here our diet is very much like the western American diet ever since the late 80s.
      Also, 10% of the island have type 2 diabetes! So much for the Mediterranean diet. I would say the diets in the islands of Ikaria and Sardinia are more traditional.

      Saida Agourram Yes, the Neolithic period brought agriculture into Europe through Anatolia which was where you could consider the Mediterranean diet evolved from. I find it strange how people argue to the teeth about how we have actually evolved to eat grain, with the prevalence of disease and autoimmunity the numbers beg to differ, we haven’t evolved to digest complex grain yet if ever

      Saida Agourram Modern humans have not existed millions years ago. Anatomically (with some minor variations) we are the same people back to 300,000 years ago. We haven’t evolved physiologically or mentally from that period. Our accumulation of knowledge and culture may be deceiving on that front. There’s a reason that Diets which closely mimic hunter gatherers lifestyle (keto/carnivore/fasting) are so beneficial for us.
      Not all of us live sedentary lives and are active even in modern society/cities.

    My grandmother used to make this all the time, Bone soup, she did add noodles to it. Really good and she lived to be 97 and on no meds! Fats are good for you, she is my proof of it.

    Hi Dr. Berg, Thank you so much for this video. I make Bone Broth every week. Even a Keto Bone Broth! Over the years I have perfected a wonderful recipe that includes shanks, marrow bones, and oxtails. This makes a wonderful rich and gelatinous bone broth! I make it in a slow cooker or on the stove top, and when I am in a rush, I use the Instant Pot. I have many videos on making bone broth. I grew up making bone broth with my mom and went on to make it for myself and my family. I have been drinking bone broth for many years now! I soak the marrow bones in acidulated water for an hour while I roast the meaty bones. And then I add the meaty bones and all the drippings to the pot where I am soaking the marrow bones. I make all sorts of variations of bone broth...Beef Bone Broth, Chicken Bone Broth (literally for pennies a jar!), and even Fish Bone Broth. Plus I make variations of Bone Broth including a Keto Bone Broth and and Anti-Inflamatory Bone Broth. Plus, I have found so many clever ways to incorporate bone broth into our diets - other than just drinking it warm. You can even add bone broth to smoothies!! Beef Bone Broth is great in dark chocolate smoothies, Chicken Bone Broth is great in a berry smoothies, and Fish Bone Broth is great in green smoothies...with seaweed!!
    And I love the bones and liver from US Wellness Meats. Such a wonderful company!!

      Sue G Z - Hi Sue, I like the slow cooker the best. I simmer beef bone broth for 12 hours and chicken bone broth for 6 hours. The slow cooker or the stove top make the most flavorful and gelatinous bone broths. I would highly recommend either method. I have videos on how to make all sorts of bone broths using all different appliances and I have to say that the slow cooker is by far the winner (the stove top is great too but it requires more baby sitting).     Excellent advise! My Functional Medicine doctor (MD) also recommends bone broth. We made Pho (forgot to add the apple cider vinegar tho), simmered for 12 hours, added all the veggies and have been eating on it for 2 days. Sleeping great, feeling better and my blood sugar levels are down! 👍😍 Thank you, Dr. Berg!

    I used the bones from a rotisserie chicken, then threw that in an instant pot along with everything he said. Adds so much flavor to dishes!

      I do the same, except I throw them in my old very basic rice cooker. I can then stick the pot in the fridge at night, bring it out the next day, add more water and bones, and boil some more. I will always have the broth ready to drink anytime.

    Yes, I make bone broth as well and when I drink it, it's like my body is thanking me and saying "Yes, this is what I needed, Thank you!" I feel so good when I drink it. I also make soups with it as well.

    Thank you for sharing. I've tried the Kettle and Fire, and like it. Great for a quick meal, but a pit pricey for regular use. Homemade is better.

    Glad to come across this video. There is a certain influencer that has a vegan/vegetarian agenda that tries to put a spin on bone broth. I recall my grandparent's telling me stories about living in Okinawa and they ate bone broth quite often when they were there. The longevity of life is amazing in Okinawa i believe because of this diet with a lot of vegetables. I will continue to make bone broth and enjoy after my fasting. Thanks Dr. Berg!

    As usual fantastic video Dr Berg👌🏼. I love bone broth. We also use it as a base for cooking rice in Pakistan. Yummmmmm!!
    Cow/goat trotters soup is also consumed in breakfast esp during winters. It's extremely good for keeping the body warm.

    I once had come up with reasoning why chicken noodle soup was known as good for colds, and it was because of the nutrients from the bone marrow. I made bone broth once, and I cut many of the bones to expose the marrow. Also, I remembered that chicken soup looks much different than what typically comes from the shelf.
    Other thoughts were: bone broth is firstly about economics; the secondary occurrence is that nutrients are consumed that ordinarily are not - just as this video says.

    Great video with helpful info!!! Pho, a Vietnamese soup, is a fantastic beef bone based soup!!! Rather than using the traditional rice noodle for the soup, you can use vegetables like cabbage, green beans or what ever you like along with thinly sliced brisket!!! ☮️🖖🏽

      @@Mart-yn7df I have the large instant pot (8 quart I believe). I put two whole chicken carcasses in it (raw or roasted and you can get away with just one carcass), add a bunch of rough cut carrots, celery, a couple onions, garlic cloves, Himalayan sea salt, black pepper, bay leaves and some poultry seasoning. Add water to the full line and set it for 90 minutes. Sometimes we add a tablespoon or two of vinegar. Once the time is done relieve the pressure and strain the contents out of the broth. Add salt/pepper to your preference and enjoy. This is a simple way to make amazing stock. You can substitute the chicken carcass for any animal bones. I have a small farm so we will do this with beef or pork bones too. If it smells like farts while it’s cooking that is a good sign lol.

    I smoke cheap beef ribs etc and save bones and mske broth then freeze in ziplocs and have turnip greens and my smoky bone broth zapped in mw everyday for lunch. Have celery juice then 4 tbsp gyayusa tea early on. Then prep Indian dishes for dinner (lots spices) and the weight goes down consistently.
    O and those little boxes of broth are 6-7 $ each at local store wich got me making my own.

      1-2 cardamons won't hurt ketosis i would say, but a lot might effect the brain into thinking you're getting food and start producing stomach acids and other things

    I love love love my bone broth. It's one of those things I don't really notice the benefits when I'm drinking it but when I run out after a couple of days yeah then I can really tell that I haven't had it. To make it it's super easy. Save all your bones. You get chicken legs or a whole chicken save the bones I just have a bag in my freezer and I keep putting the bones in there. Separate your bones have chicken bones turkey bones beef bones lamb bones pork bones Fishbones then you get different flavored broth. I found a roaster oven is the easiest way to make bone broth. And there is a difference between bone broth and stock. Stock will be done shortly and doesn't really affect the bones much. Bone broth when it's done especially with chicken bones or you're smaller bones bones will actually crumble when you pinch them between your thumb and forefinger. So the make bone broth with beef bones or you're bigger bones to get a better flavor you can roast them in the oven first. If you're using a roaster oven just take the bones out of the freezer throw them in the roaster oven leave it on low for an hour or so and then Crank It Up the 350 you'll know when the bones are done because you can smell them and they'll start to turn brown. And they do smell yummy then fill the roaster oven with water I put a couple glug of apple cider vinegar I don't really measure. Then I will add carrots onion celery herbs salt or I just leave it plain. you don't want to add garlic because garlic when it cooks that long will turn yuck like sulfur. So once the bones in the water are in bring it up to a boil and there will be foam on top of the water scrape the foam off and discard. Then turn the heat down so that the water is barely simmering. You don't want it to Bubble rapidly just barely breaking the surface if at all. Now just let it cook. I will cook mine sometimes 24 hours 48 hours. For me the time depends on how much I'm making and how much I dip out of the pot to drink while it's cooking. It will also depend on how many bones I have in the pot. Sometimes I have a lot and I do mean a lot almost a full pot full of just bones. so in a case like that I will strain the liquid and then refill the pot with water and keep cooking. broth is really easy to can for later use it only takes 25 minutes for a quart and on average I get about 10 to 12 quarts out of my 18 quart roaster oven. the bones and vegetables that are left behind and I don't use onions at all I mash up and give to the dogs. what I can do for the dogs if I can smash the bones and the vegetables then I add green powder kelp and coconut oil I may be a powder multivitamin I mix it all up and freeze it in ice cube trays then pop the cubes out and store in a freezer bag and that gives the dogs a nice little homemade vitamin snack. sometimes I let the cubes thaw and then add the cubes to the food that I cook for them. now I will have a cup of broth sometimes in replacement of coffee I probably drank I probably drank a quart a day I probably drank a quart a day I probably drank a quart a day I probably drink a quart a day because it's so delicious. often times I can have it for a quick meal or as a side to a meal. in my broth when I'm ready to drink it I will add in my super green powder that I make and that basically has everything green in it dandelion leaves kale spinach Swiss chard beet greens collard greens sometimes green onion leaves pretty much if it's green I will dry it then powder it. then I can add in some fresh veggies and I add in Master tonic you can Google that recipe. I tweaked my recipe by adding different herbs like oregano parsley dandelion and I add turmeric ginger sometimes lemongrass just depends on what I'm working on at the time health wise. if you haven't made your own bone broth you really need to give it a try it is so much better than the stuff you get at the store. in the winter time I usually keep a pot going all the time so we can dip out of it all day instead of having a cup of tea or coffee. I don't know if bone broth just plain bone broth with nothing else added is considered breaking intermittent fasting if it is oh well then I guess I'm going to be breaking fasting

      @@bonniegirl5138 sorry didn't see this come through. A 'roaster oven' is a small oven that looks more like a slow cooker than an oven. The common use is people will cook turkey's in them. Look it up on line and pictures will pop up. you can find them used all the time. I used them for 2 yrs when I didn't have an oven. Now that I have an oven I still will use my roaster for a lot of things. Especially in the summer time as I can set it up outside. There are different sizes also

    I use bones and pig ears, add a a lot of collagen. I also use a pressure cooker and cook for 3-5 hours. It's really good and thickens like jello when its chilled.

    When I was young my mother, and it was common on other household, made bone broth three times per week, put it in jars then refrigerate them. She kept it on the stove all day and in the oven at night. We had liver 2-3 times a week and green vegetables at every meal except breakfast. She would buy fresh greens such as kale, collards, mustards, one other, and broccol. Then we would wash them and bag them for the freezer. We at tons of fruits during the day and rarely ate bananas. Anytime we were hungry anyone of us could bake sweet potatoes and eat them with butter and cinnamon no sugar. We had cod liver oil once a week.
    That all went down the drain with TV dinners.

    Ive been on a somewhat Keto diet and didn't know it until i stumbled upon this channel. Been watching waaaaay too much of Dr Berg...interesting stuff. I make bone broth to help with the healing of my joints, hardly any back pains anymore. Wat cheaper making it yourself and i cut the time down to 12hrs cooking using a pressure cooker and letting the mixture sit for 6 hours room temperature and 8 hrs in the fridge too remove the fat layer on top.

    Oh, another video mentioned saving yr veggie scraps like carrot tops, celery, etc. Strain them out with the bones. I save scraps in the freezer until I make the broth.

    EXPANDED CHICKEN BROTH INSTRUCTIONS: Consider chicken separate from beef broth (beef bones cost big $$$). Keeping the recipe simple will help to ensure you actually make it. Have a stock pot or a large crock pot or a pressure cooker (I like the stock pot). Some people keep a constant supply of bone broth on hand with a continuously working crock pot. Buy the best chicken you can find. You can cut up a whole chicken; but if you can get a collection of necks, backs, wings and feet (or any combination thereof) that's a good target. The feet are great if you can confront them!! A pig's foot is fine too! Forget the chicken carcass, there's nothing in it (it can be used as animal feed). Fill the pot with filtered water until the bones are covered by about an inch and simmer the bones for at least 6 hours (up to 24). Yes, add a few tablespoons of ACV to the pot. You want the pot simmering and the gentle art of covering the pot and getting it so it just simmers needs practice. When possible just leave the pot uncovered and add more water as it boils away. Veggies are optional and I'm just as happy without them (more work, more trash, less space for the bones to boil). WHAT ABOUT THE CHICKEN CLINGING TO THE BONES? You can "rescue" it after the pot has simmered for an hour-and-a-half. Some people leave the meat on the bones the whole cooking time at which point you have the choice of saving it or tossing it. When it comes to storing your (perhaps) two quarts of broth I suggest freezing most of the strained broth by filling one-quart Pyrex dishes with two to three cups of broth. It's a good idea to put a strainer over a Pyrex dishes and use a ladle to first take a good amount of the broth out of the pot. Hat's off to all the broth makers.

      Thanks for sharing…..i agree with all you have suggested except for part re chicken caucus being of no value….
      The bones are rich source of flavor….alway crack every bone with large meat tenderizer.
      I do like to cut end of chicken legs…heard there is boron in soft ends. Correct me if wrong!

    Thank you Dr. Berg for your kind health advice. Please introduce quality foods or therapeutics since the market is vast and always confusing. Finding the reliable producer is similar to finding the needle in the haystack.

    You can cook it in a pressure cooker too. Way faster! Same end end results. Tastes a lot better than Kettle and Fire. I also can it so it’s shelf stable.
