I just sit and smile when I hear The Fixx guitar riffs,. Great sounds great days great memories and a great guitarist. Secret Separation is my all time favorite.
Jamie definitely has a signature sound. You know it's him when you hear him. He's an excellent guitar player. I LOVE The FIXX, always have. So excited at the FIXX songs he plays bits of here. I can name all of them.
My first electric guitar was a 1982 Ibanez Blazer like the ones Jamie used to back in the day. I never saw anybody else used that Phase cut switch on those guitars like Jamie did. It was an iconic sound for the Fixx back in the ‘80’s.
My first guitar was an 81 Blazer - you can imagine how pleased I was to see Jamie using the exact same guitar a couple of months later during a concert in Amsterdam. 'We have the same sound!', I thought. Turned out we didn't - I didn't quite realise back then that tone is made from just a little bit more than just the guitar. Still, in all honesty - I think he sounded better back then; never really liked the EMG's - too bright, compared to the more natural tone he got from the Blazer. Then again, 40 years later I'm still searching for that signature Fixx-sound, the explosiveness from 'Outside' for example. Guess it's in the fingers after all...
I’ve been a fan since the first album. He has such a great tone and style. Reminds me of my other favorite Eighties guitarist Andy Summers. Why he hasn’t gotten the recognition he deserves is beyond me. Fantastic player and I love how he uses effects too! Very atmospheric and hypnotic! One of the best! 😎👏🏻🎸
What a treat this video is. I could easily watch a two-hour long video every week at least, of Jamie playing, practicing, improvising, drinking tea, chilling out with us. It would be like having the coolest roommate in the world. It would be a great thing - an unprecedented experiment - if The Fixx posted new songwriting sessions raw and intimate like this. For example it could start with Dan or Rupert setting up or just sitting, maybe talking with Cy, the other guys walk in etc and over weeks & months we get to be right in there - we get to be part of it & see the ‘friction’ - the arguments and the jam sessions. It could go on for hours each session, and it would evolve over time to recording oversdubs, mixing, discussions, arguments, etc. The Fixx doing this would be monumental.
one of my all time favorite bands and guitar players......we used to cover 3-4 of your songs back in the day....i started working on a cover of "just before dawn" after seeing the bing stage tunes here on youtube.....sorry i missed you on your latest run thru cleveland but you guy's still bring the goods
i used to record guitars straight into the mixer using those little black & purple Art tube preamps. You could have the weakest pickups in the world and no problem - a preamp makes it like having active pickups, and you can switch to quality 12AX-7’s for a great smooth sound.
These are really great pickups. I have installed them in a Warmoth parts S-type guitar that I just completed. In addition, I wired in a 3-position mini toggle (On/On/On) switch to add additional phasing combinations. The circuit design came from this youtube channel video: th-cam.com/video/zaylqAbpUAM/w-d-xo.html Jamie explained it well here on the Fixxers demo video: these sound quite like the Fender 62 Hot Rod vintage reissue strat pickups, but they do have some additional muscle.
I just got a CD version of One Things Leads To Another for Christmas and it has a beginning that I don't remember on any other versions. Kinda like....Wop,wop,wop wop and then you start your guitar. How was that done? BTW My favorite guitarist of all time.

That Secret Separation verse part is so simple, yet SO effective. Love it.
I love The Fixx. When I think of the 80's they are in my top 5 that were in constant rotation during the era. Fond memories.

@@basheideman agreed. Jamie is an amazing guitarist. But it was cool to see our Ibanez guitars on stage live!

This was a treat for the ears! Love listening to these Fixx licks.
Those pickups nailed the recordings! And being passive! So awesome!

Sounds _far_ better and more *ALIVE!* than any Strat demos on here, or new Fender models...Lol
Hypnotizing 🎸
Woow what a find :)))) Than you all
Awesome.
been on stage with you with that awesome guitar :-)
The Pickups Sound Quite Well To Do.At The Beginning, Almost Buddy Holly Like.
