It’s funny how most people were mad at the band when they heard that Jay is fired. Now everyone is buying these wolf tickets that Slipknot are selling saying that new drummer is basically just like Joey.
What people also fail to realise... is that Joey also sped up songs, but since everyone has him on an altar, they totally ignore that...still love all 3 slipknot drummers, Joey, Jay and Eloy are 100% my favs of all time.
As good as Jay was, the fact is there hasn’t been a buzz around slipknot like this in a very long time. I’m interested to see what Eloy brings writing wise. It’s always hard entering a band this established especially when the drums are such a major part of the bands identity because of Joey. I personally hope he finds a way to put a lot of himself in the first record he does with them because trying to do what you think the fans want to hear is always going to end badly.
I liked Jay, but the two things that always bothered me was that his drumming, while technically good, was not very strong and the sound would get lost behind the vocals and other instruments. Additionally, his tempo always seemed too fast which caused some songs to sound disjoined. Eloy is restoring both that strong drum sound and the slower tempo.
Eloy is driving this train. No one has done that since Joey departed. Respect.
