With the help of Karen Ford and Maker's Mark Fanboy Trev Wilson aka The Bourbon Wrench, we were given an experience like no other. My bottle just arrived tonight. WOW. What's amazing is that for such high proof, the sweet honesuckle brightness comes through on the nose OVER the alcohol! Delicious and one to savor. Thanks Jason & Co. for your stalwart tasting work!

Lol wowwww I literally went on the 11am tour at Maker's Mark on October 13. I must not have recognized you when we went past that tasting room because you were sitting with your back to the glass. Crazy

Bro… I already had a couple pours tonight but I had to have a pour of Makers while watching this. This is simply amazing. A buddy of mine has done a couple distillery tours around that area to include Makers mark and he got me a my named bottle for my 40th birthday so this is really amazing to see. 🥃 thank you! I’m smiling ear to ear over here. 🥃

This was absolutely amazing to watch. And how they have the coins representing the staves you were to pick/use was really interesting. And Trevor saying "first up, P2...don't ask me what that means" and you saying "Dude we just went over that" slayed me. An experience like non-other! Thanks for bringing us along! Cheers and Rock on!
Was in that same chair at the table back in May. Was my first barrel pick ever. Probably ruined the rest of them I'll ever do. The experience was one of a kind and so amazing.
Beautiful grounds! We visited this past summer and really enjoyed it. And I've never tasted a bad Private Select.

I was fortunate enough to tour Makers Mark. It’s a beautiful campus and facility. Did you get to keep a sample of your pick? I’d be interested in how close the barrel turns out compared to your original creation.
I share my birthday with your barrel creation, but I have it by 52 years. Looking forward to it
Amazing! I am going to look into doing this myself. I’m a novice, so perhaps this is silly to notice; but why did they put the metal ring into the barrel connecting the staves? Wouldn’t that give the whiskey an unpleasant metallic note?
Also just lost it when saw Chihuly glass work!!! Agggggh, so awesome!!

I got do to a private select and it was one of my absolute favorite experiences ever. We had to do it remotely because of Covid but the whisky turned out fantastic

It's not paint. It's all blown glass pieces. Look up Dale Chihuly and have your mind blown.

You really caught the essence of the Maker's distillery. I love taking friends and family there when they come to Kentucky. Remember that you can release another barrel of this pick in the future since you have that stave profile on the certificate.
Hey man, what an amazing experience at Maker's Mark, the singing guide was great. An awesome tour and the blend of the own bottle was fantastic. For me it's too far away to do a visit there but with such great vids I come a little step nearer.

Wow. Love the Chihuly ceiling. I have a great story about him & my dad when Dale was here in Manhattan for the opening of a gallery where he has a major piece. Good dude. =)

Their 46 is great, their Barrel Proof is great too, and a REAL Bargain!! I bought a bttl of Jack Daniels Barrel Proof(square bottle in a grey box) and it is one of the best whiskeys I have ever tasted. Strong too. Lotta great whiskey(whisky) out there.
MM is a beautiful place. Good thing you had a driver because it can be hard to find. 😁
My son and I toured/tasted at 21 distilleries back in 2019. Makers was probably top three in the categories of the grounds (stunning), the tour (informative, detailed and funny), the tasting and the gift shop. It's a little out of the way from some of the others, but worth the drive.
Definitely off the beaten path.

Dude we were there in July, Makers is an epic facility!! Overall as a brand Makers Mark is my favorite, I cannot wait to go back! Ill keep an eye out for the pick!

2 brands I need to give more of a chance: Maker’s Mark & WT. Both have huge following but they just haven’t been my favorite brands although I will say WT has some I do like.

Do you know why they chose to only age the 10 Staves for 9 weeks? Is 9 weeks enough time to really bring out all the flavor? Just curious..
They told us through a lot of trial and error they figured 9 weeks was the time it needed for all private selections.

Trev getting to thieve straight from the barrel made me so friggin happy!! And were they friggin old school printing labels at the beginning? This seems like the best day in lab ever, what a cool experience!! I think we all just became a little bit more of Maker's fanboys/girls learning so much more! (Also, awesome job editing so much different type of footage together, can definitely appreciate the work that had to go into this!)
Was your choice of stave profile dropped down into a barrel of regular makers mark offering, and do you know how old the bourbon was, and how long will your stave profile be kept in the bourbon for? Trying to educate myself!
Yes. Staves got dropped in a barrel that will be filled with aged cask strength makers mark. It will then age for an additional 9 weeks with our stave selection before bottling at cask strength. Most makers products are 6-7 years old.

How long do they age the barrel with the staves you picked inside? This should be bottled soon I would think. I haven't heard or seen anything about this lately.
It's about 9 weeks. But they don't tell you when they fill it so hard to figure a date.
@The Mash and Drum if it makes you any more excited I got a store pick that was created in September 2021. They've had the product for a couple weeks.

Something I would love to do. Just one question: Frequently when I read about blends they emphasize letting the various whiskies "marry" in a big vat for weeks or months but when you do this you are blending the various stocks and tasting right away. Seems like the blend profile could be affected by the rapid mixing and tasting. Thoughts?
Each blend from each stave ages for 9 weeks. Our blend starts out as regular makers 46 and then the staves are put in and that ages for 9 weeks. So while there may be some variation. Its pretty damn close.
Just out of curiosity: what's the purpose of keeping a bottle of every single private select that's ever been selected? Is it a resource for the blenders at MM? Is it so that people who made a selection can come back and try it again? Simply an archive? Some other reason I'm missing?
I think its just an archive honestly.

Makers campus is amazing. I was there in 2001 and then again in 2019. Was amazing to see how much it had grown.
