Thank you for the website review, Olly! When it concerns the (Brazilian) Portuguese version, I must point out that it sounds perhaps too informal due to the sole use of simple or even poor grammatical structures. Although this might be a matter of taste and some users may find it useful. I'm intrigued but I guess what gives me pause is AI built on LLMs are known to lie and provide false information (or "mirages" as the industry prefers to call them). I get your point about this being part of wider studying, but I guess part of me is worried that you could inadvertently be led down the wrong path. I don't think it's going to be anything huge, and as you say if you're doing this alongside other stuff you'll spot the issues eventually. I guess I'm just cautious based on some previous bad experiences but I think I will give this a go. And out of interest (and maybe this is something I can see later when I do try) can you tell it which version of a language you want (European Portuguese, Rioplatense Spanish etc)? Or is it at least made clear which one is being used?
I would like to know as well, I’m very careful of my Spanish learning sources to avoid cross contamination of types of Spanish since my goal is to be fluent in the Spanish of my husband’s family
It's interesting that when, for example, the German AI has a German accent when it speaks in English. I would think it would be in English. But I assume they want you to get used to hearing a German accent when English is spoken. There isn't a correction for intonation. It checks your vocabulary and grammar, but not your intonation.
Sub'd today, but I agree with a trial option. Very responsive and very, very, good feedback. It really helps with practice. One feedback for very new speakers like me, would be to have the english (or customers language) in the top pane as well. Clicking the button each time for feedback quickly drains the enthusiasm.
Olly, do you and Xiaoma envision a feature that grades the student? For example, grading a student at a CEFR level or grading a student's mastery of a core vocabulary, grammar, etc. This could be valuable and motivational feedback for the student. It could also allow, say, high school language teachers to get a school account and assign language lab work with this amazing tool.
CEFR is pretty comprehensive and it's hard to grade hearing, in particular, with AI voices. maybe in the future when more natural voices and sentences are able to be generated will CEFR grading be possible, but generally that seems like a solidly human task for now
Kudos on your German, Olly! Deutsche Sprache, Schwere Sprache :) No, seriously - this really could be the game changer so many of us have been looking for, and I for one am looking forward to when you launch this. I bought your French course more than a year ago, realized that my German wasn't quite good enough for my new life here in Germany, and therefore put French on the back burner. Yesterday, I started up my French journey and am surprised by how much kana/haven't forgotten from my highschool days. An AI language tool designed by you will make a real difference for your fellow language lovers! Thanks so much for sharing the news!
Just signed up, but I did not have a chance for any test conversation, it is asking for making a subscription first. I don't think I will subscribe without a test period, even without a single test conversation!
Hi Olly very useful video and great update. I could not see the facility to use for a free trial update and goes straight into asking you to sign up. Do you know if there is the facility to trial it out prior to sign up, thanks Mark
Hi Olly, that's a wonderful idea! I do also think that this tool could be a game changer. I have two questions: Do you plan to combine it with your storylearning program "uncovered"? Or would it be possible to speak with the AI-teacher about your stories? Do the AI know your stories or can I tell them, so that the AI teacher will be able to aks me questions about the content and exercise with me the vocabulary or related grammar issues? THAT would be absolutely tremendous! I would appreciate if you could give me an answer. Thanks in advance! By the way, your course is amazing!
I do understand this. I admire your power and creativity that you invest in your students/community. Thanks a lot. I will follow the developments with interest. All the best! @@storylearning
I find this really fascinating and I hope you'll keep on adding more languages (not so secretly hoping that Hungarian will be added at some point because of very selfish reasons lol). Anyway this seems like a super useful use of ai, that can help many ppl start talking and incorporate it into their language learning to a much higher degree similar to how we’re reading and watching tv shows in our target languages :)
That was a hell of a demo. I look forward to tracking your product as it is something I think I need for French. Hopefully there's a way to control the cadence of how Teacher AI speaks to the student so I can absorb what is being said. Thanks.
I’ve been curious about speaking practice with AI for a while. Your video isn’t the first on the topic. But while I think Chat GPT may be ready to go if you’re looking to type messages, I don’t know if the computer will understand my accented speech well enough to make this a pleasant experience. The only AI chat bot I’ve tried was basically turning on text to speech for Chat GPT and the voice to text for me. It was interesting but I stopped after a few minutes. I figured I’d wait for a developed product like you’re doing here. Again, it’s really important that it understand American accented Korean.. think it can?
Would love to use this but is too pricy for me. Is mainly because of the exchange rate. $33 a month is a fair price but when converted to AUD thats $50 a month.
Hi Olly. I have paid and it looks great. I have one difficulty. When the teacher speaks the subtitles are only visible for about six lines on the teachers screen. Can you tell me how to extend the teacher's screen to include all the subtitles? Many thanks
It does look promising. There are are quite a few bugs to iron out, though. In the video, the French pronunciation is mostly 'off' and the grammatical explanation for "veuille/veuilles" is misleading. I've tried TeacherAI for Brazilian Portuguese and Russian for one month and there are still too many bugs and glitches. I'm going to give it some time for it to be developed further before I decide-or not-to reactivate my membership. I'm optimistic and confident that this will be a major game-changer in language learning.
I see you have so many beautiful and difficult languages in your program. Amazing! Olly is Hebrew coming soon. I have been studying it and would luv to practice it in your platform.
Signed up for this service based on your suggestion. The issues have been prohibitively bad. I received an email saying I would get a free month for my troubles, which is nice, but that’s what I would expect. I haven’t been able to use this service for the month I’ve paid for it. Obviously I need to be credited for that. If you want to make a gesture of good will I need to be credited for the month that’s been wasted due to the technical issues on the site AND another month for my troubles.
Wow! I have just enetered late beginner in French and am having a hard time firuing out times to speak with someone, if I can even find that someone! This is great..... logging in now.
This is exactly what i need, except that i cannot afford it…. Now, I understand the cost of IT, so i see why the prices are where they are. It’s just unfortunately not what i can currently spend my money on. But i am genuinely happy to see tools like this becoming available. This is a game changer. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Amazing! This is great and for sure It will get better. One other thing, you are one step ahead of the competition. Congrats! The only thing I did not like at all is that you do not have a trial period on the app.
Looks like a great tool, I am really afraid to lose my Catalán so I would love to practice that there. It would be awesome if you could add that language!
Okay soooooo (and I posted this to the Discord as well), After purchasing my first month, I planned to spend about 45 minutes with the tool to get acquainted and "feel out" the experience. Well, that 45 minutes turned into all afternoon and I honestly expect this to totally change the game for me. It's funny, I've been using ChatGPT as an "input practice" tool for writing in my target language, but this just takes that notion and elevates it to new heights. Really feeling like this is the next big breakthrough for language acquisition tech and I expect it to blow the @#$% up over the course of the next quarter. Congrats to the team for a fantastic execution on an outstanding vision of tech + language. You've really nailed something that takes full advantage of the latest "buzz" in the tech space while also actually providing something that is truly useful in a practical sense without costing an arm and a leg (looking at you CoPilot). Seriously, great job!!!
This will definitely be a game changer, and the developers will make loads of money from us 😅 Although I can keep my languages “alive” by flying to continental Europe at least once a month to practise, but the output remains at A1-A2 through convo at the hotel, restaurants, and shops only. The input I can also practise in the UK whilst watching the TV & TH-cam in the target languages, which keeps my input at B1-C1. This AI is very exciting!
I think if you really want to maximize feedback and have user confidence in this AI then you would make a less aggressive sales offer on the website. There is no 7 to 14 day free trial that is typical for most language apps and or competing language learning AI platforms. Platforms that aren't predatory and have confidence in what they have built. Requiring us to immediately commit financially without being able to test drive is questionable and makes me unable to trust what is being offered here. This AI has incredible potential, but that pricing strategy makes me think this is a cash grab at the moment. Would love to see this made more available for all to give a try.
Hi Olly!! Do you think the gap between when you speak and when you receive your response will improve? It makes it a little bit unnatural. This is an incredible tool but that would make it better!! Thanks.
I just gave it a try. I know 6 languages and tested them all out. The quality levels are very different. Italian is really great just like talking to a native Italian but French is poor. Even makes pronunciation errors. I’m learning Thai now but it seems there is no support for that language right now. Anyway the product is impressive and looks very promising!
I'll still use my italki teacher but I need to talk everyday. I need something on demand and language partners have always tended to be flaky and some over correct me. I see this a a bridge, or training wheels. It's not as real as friends/language partners but bridges you're speaking confidence to that easygoing fluency.
Sounds very interesting. I would love to try it out first before paying for a subscription. especially since it's a bit expensive to just try it out. will there be a trial period some time later?
Hello Olly, I love your channel and everything, but where is Japanese on your teacher AI? I been studying Japanese but finding native speakers is so difficult.
I'm curious to know more of the story behind how this came into being. Is that a possibility for a future video? Who all was involved in the creation & development? How long did it take? Which languages will be added in the future? (I'm hoping for Maori personally, but I realize there isn't a huge market for it...)
Hi Olly, this is an amazing outcome and I'm super keen to try it. Would you consider having Latin as an option in the future? It would be epic to see ScorpioMartianus as a teacher!
I think this is great! For some of us it will greatly increase our ability to speak. I have used some AI with Quizlet and it is very helpful but doesn't involve speaking per se. When does this become available?
How is this for a beginner who still has grammar issues like verb conjugations or using the adverb in the wrong structure. I think it’ll be great for someone who has a hard time putting the right verbs, adverbs adjectives in the right order. Also for Kanji/Chinese characters?
I'm trying to learn Spanish as an older adult. I never learned when I was in high school. I'm a math person. So, I decided to take a more scientific approach. I watched a linguistics playlist on YT. That made me watch other linguistics playlist. And, watch people like you. I recalled one of the presenters said that morphemes help people to understand language better. But, how am I as as an English non-linguist speaker going to know the morphemes in a Spanish word. Well, your video made me think ... what if I start to use ChatGPT. I heard of ChatGPT. But, never used it before. Wow! It is amazing. I asked ChatGPT to give me a word in Spanish that has 3 morphemes. It gave me desamado. This what I got ...The word "desamado" in Spanish, meaning "unloved," is indeed composed of three morphemes: 1. **"am-"** is the root morpheme. It comes from "amar," meaning "to love." 2. **"des-"** is a prefix morpheme, indicating negation or the opposite. When attached to "amado" (loved), it changes the meaning to its opposite, so "desamado" means "unloved." 3. **"-ado"** is a suffix morpheme that is commonly used to form past participles in Spanish. In this context, "amado" means "loved" (as a state of being, not the past action of loving), and "desamado" translates to "unloved." This what a light-bulb moment. I learned about a prefix, a suffix, and the root word. The root word will help me identify other words now from context. This might be an idea for a future video.
I hope we get this as an app for IOS and Android in the future when its all polished up. It would also be nice if they added not as popular languages but still used, Ex: khmer and Swahili and cantonese
Things about this website do drive me insane, I am British and it really struggles with the Southern British Accent when you need to say something natively in English for example in Spanish and Portuguese - Yo juego Korfball it thinks I am saying C all the time so defaults to curveball and a lot time when there is no translation for a word and need to use English in a Spanish or even Portuguese sentence it can not pickup my accent because we Brits speak with a soft monotone voice so it guessing the English word being used when it should not be has im not mispronouncing any of the English words, this means sometimes need to shout in English just to be understood by repeating the same phrase , I think AI is used to American English and is having an hard time coping with any British Accent, Other things is the audio sometimes has issue either it goes crackly or starts then stops for some reason or plays another voice from the options listed then decides halfway though that it wrong voice being used and corrects itself, some things are great like option to save new phases but why cant we delete any of them in app if accidentally put a phrase twice it rather annoying that it duplicates records and now where of clearing it out or customising this section, I know you can export it but why can we not do anything with in website to customise this?
So I just signed up for it and I can't event speak into it or write anything without paying for it.. I'm trying to learn German for my A1 exam next year and this would be amazing but I need to try before I buy
I (German) found nothing to correct in the pronunciation of your German sentence. In any case, I found it interesting that the AI then even spoke English with a German accent. Thanks for the great video!
Olly, that's great! It's a service that it could be helpful, especially for "introvert and shy" intermediates like me... Do you think it's really worth it for practice in English (with the YOU "avatar" :D)? I tempted to subscribe, it's a pity that there isn't any trial☹
It works awful, at least in czech. When I am talking in czech, it writes everything like I was talking in polish, i it isn't because of my accent, because it even writes with polish rules, for example: in czech you can write word "why" as "proč", so when I say "proč", it writes it as "procz", which doesn't make sense at all. Do you know what's wrong?
The fact they all have a local accent when they speak English is pretty hilarious. Only thing is that there are some mistakes when it comes to pronunciation in French (so far). I didn't notice them nor in Spanish, neither in Portuguese, but they are not my native language, so I might just have missed them. Anyway, I think it's a very exciting tool that you are developing now. I will be following what's going on with this app very closely and try it for me soon (and, hopefully, improve my language skills). Cheers, and thanks a ton for the good work!
@@samfann1768 yeah ahah I know that our language is a pain in the ass in this regard. I'm grateful I learned it as my mother tongue (and always highly respect people who could master it)
As a native French, the AI didn't seems has fluent as it is with the others languages. Some words aren't correct, prononciation aren't eather and.. well when the AI have to speak in english to explain wich words means what, it's sometimes barely understanable It seems promising tho and I hope some of the mistakes will be corrected in the near future ^^ Thank you for not selling dreams just because you co-founded the application
Is this capable of just having regular conversations in your language and slowly over time introducing a new word here and there and when you reach a certain point in vocabulary introduce concepts like word order or conjegations in a natural way? What I saw in this video was amazing but I'm curious on a slow immersion.
Congrats Olly! So all the information the AI gets it is from the internet, right? If I want to practice a certain language while asking it questions about a specific location and its touristic features among others.
Very interesting idea and possibly well done. No trial and pricing is higher than I'd like to play with. No Irish (and why isn't your book blilingual - what happened to comprlehensible input??). Why not allow a few minutes a day as a trial?
Hahaha - marvelous! Love the bad german accent of the german conversation partner. Nice idea, though. It takes away the persomal stress of speaking when you start out on a new language - I´ll give it a try!
It's time to revamp formal education system to keep pace with the AI advancement by removing the idea that foreign languages should be studied like any academic discipline, but rather as a skill, so teaching foreign languages should be put in the same equal footing as native languages from nursery until high school level.
Where do you live? If you live in the US, the Republicans will never allow foreign language education that young. They're too focused on banning books and outing lgbt students to unpredictable parents to allow actual education. You are, however, right. Bilingual education for all would be good.
Can you use it for more than one language in the same subscription fee? Is there any kind of free trial? Also, what levels do you think this is best for? Thanks
What's about the Basque Language? It's spoken in both Spain and France. I know it's not one f the top languages out there. It's maybe the oldest language in the earth! Will it be included in the future? that'd be awesome. Congratulations for this idea, Olly!

It’s still very much a work in progress. But we’ll do all we can to keep improving it each week.
CEFR is pretty comprehensive and it's hard to grade hearing, in particular, with AI voices. maybe in the future when more natural voices and sentences are able to be generated will CEFR grading be possible, but generally that seems like a solidly human task for now
Great idea
I have two questions:
Do you plan to combine it with your storylearning program "uncovered"?
Or would it be possible to speak with the AI-teacher about your stories? Do the AI know your stories or can I tell them, so that the AI teacher will be able to aks me questions about the content and exercise with me the vocabulary or related grammar issues?
THAT would be absolutely tremendous!
I would appreciate if you could give me an answer. Thanks in advance!
By the way, your course is amazing!
Thanks! It’s very much on my mind, but don’t want to rush to implement anything.
Is there no way to demo it without paying for a subscription?
This is great sadly the language I'm learning isn't offered yet but once it is I would love to use this. Thanks for sharing it
What language would you like to see?
@storylearning mainly Japanese but I also study esperanto. Mainly Japanese was what's I was really looking for.
Hey Olly for those of us who are using your storylearning courses, it would be nice to use this with the speaking practice exercises!
This is absolutely brilliant.
Okay soooooo (and I posted this to the Discord as well),
After purchasing my first month, I planned to spend about 45 minutes with the tool to get acquainted and "feel out" the experience.
This is incredible!!! I am using this ASAP. Thank you!
Have fun!
This will definitely be a game changer, and the developers will make loads of money from us 😅
Although I can keep my languages “alive” by flying to continental Europe at least once a month to practise, but the output remains at A1-A2 through convo at the hotel, restaurants, and shops only.
It looks promising, however, would be amazing if there was an option for a free trial
We’re working on it
Sounds very interesting. I would love to try it out first before paying for a subscription. especially since it's a bit expensive to just try it out. will there be a trial period some time later?
Hello Olly, I love your channel and everything, but where is Japanese on your teacher AI? I been studying Japanese but finding native speakers is so difficult.
Fantastic and amazing! I will check this out !
I signed up and love this program!
Nice video , there are call annie and gliglish AI apps to practice languages too , as alternatives.
I'm curious to know more of the story behind how this came into being. Is that a possibility for a future video? Who all was involved in the creation & development? How long did it take? Which languages will be added in the future? (I'm hoping for Maori personally, but I realize there isn't a huge market for it...)
Wow - this is great! I’ll definitely have a look!
Costs big money
@@basil4154 I don’t mind paying for something that’ll be of value in my learning journey - this sounds like something that can be of help.
Hi Olly, this is an amazing outcome and I'm super keen to try it. Would you consider having Latin as an option in the future? It would be epic to see ScorpioMartianus as a teacher!
That's a great idea!
Thank u Olly. It's really helpful
This what I got ...The word "desamado" in Spanish, meaning "unloved," is indeed composed of three morphemes:
1. **"am-"** is the root morpheme. It comes from "amar," meaning "to love."
2. **"des-"** is a prefix morpheme, indicating negation or the opposite. When attached to "amado" (loved), it changes the meaning to its opposite, so "desamado" means "unloved."
3. **"-ado"** is a suffix morpheme that is commonly used to form past participles in Spanish. In this context, "amado" means "loved" (as a state of being, not the past action of loving), and "desamado" translates to "unloved."
This what a light-bulb moment. I learned about a prefix, a suffix, and the root word. The root word will help me identify other words now from context.
This might be an idea for a future video.
I tried a competitor a few weeks ago and I was pretty surprised at the progress they've made in this sort of technology.
Hey Olly, I would like to promote this program on my youtube channel. Is there a way to become an affiliate?
Hi! Is it possible to try it out a couple of times before paying for a subscription?
Thanks! Cool stuff!
Rapaz, fiquei surpreso ! Your portuguese is Level A ! congrats
I am lucky to comment early on such an informative video!
👍👍
This is so so cool, but I wish Norwegian was an option (especially because Danish and Swedish are!)
Don't worry. If you know one of those three, you can learn the other two just by interacting with them..,
@@shutterchick79 I know but I've been learning Norwegian for 18 months so don't really want to get confused by trying to speak in one of the others
Even AI has a harder time pronouncing French than Spanish lol
@@samfann1768 yeah ahah I know that our language is a pain in the ass in this regard. I'm grateful I learned it as my mother tongue (and always highly respect people who could master it)
this is great content!
Logged in for the first time to try and practice European Portuguese. Game changer.
The german was clunky, and once the german tutor started to speak some English, that was almost impossible to understand if just listening
I think it's good when the AI speaks English with a nativ accent - but the German accent was really overdone by a lot.
First time here .. man , as a brazilian, awesome portuguese, yours and a.i , hehe
Can you give us more details or update please ?
As a native French, the AI didn't seems has fluent as it is with the others languages. Some words aren't correct, prononciation aren't eather and.. well when the AI have to speak in english to explain wich words means what, it's sometimes barely understanable
It seems promising tho and I hope some of the mistakes will be corrected in the near future ^^
Thank you for not selling dreams just because you co-founded the application
Is this capable of just having regular conversations in your language and slowly over time introducing a new word here and there and when you reach a certain point in vocabulary introduce concepts like word order or conjegations in a natural way?
What I saw in this video was amazing but I'm curious on a slow immersion.
This + Lingq will go together absolutely wonderfully!
This looks amazing. I wanted to join but then saw that Hebrew (Ivrit) isn’t included yet. Could you please add Hebrew? Thanks
Well said
Where do you live? If you live in the US, the Republicans will never allow foreign language education that young. They're too focused on banning books and outing lgbt students to unpredictable parents to allow actual education. You are, however, right. Bilingual education for all would be good.
Hello Dear , How can I buy short stories Teachers Guide book for my students
Can you use it for more than one language in the same subscription fee? Is there any kind of free trial? Also, what levels do you think this is best for? Thanks
What's about the Basque Language? It's spoken in both Spain and France. I know it's not one f the top languages out there. It's maybe the oldest language in the earth! Will it be included in the future? that'd be awesome.
Congratulations for this idea, Olly!
