Nice interview Andre! I'm continually impressed at who and where you are getting interviews from. You are going to where teh action is happening and talking to the people at the forefront of this industry and I thank you for it. Tony Palo, JR from ETS, Shane T. You are getting right in amongst the cream ofp the crop and getting information for us at a depth/level no one else is and I love it !!! Keep em coming mate =)
We respect Tony's decision on what he does and doesn't want to share as to be fair he generally is incredibly open with his knowledge so I'm sure for him and his business he feels it is the right thing to do at this point in time. If you want some info on head cylinder sealing techniques that others in the industry might not be willing to share though then Eric from Proline is your man with another great interview here: th-cam.com/video/SIapQkyjQfg/w-d-xo.html - Taz.

Lots of sensors, a motec ecu, and a good tuner. The aluminum blocks are "reliable" up to 2200ish hp. After that T1, ETS use a billet block and replace sleeves and rotating assembly as needed. Usually 6-8 passes and the internals are replaced
If you've been to an event like TX2K you'd understand the need to different classes like this. There are so many R35's it would be boring for everyone to just be using the same rules and shooting for the same goal to the point that people just wouldn't bother. What class do you race in? - Taz.
Stock steering wheel location.. Stock interior head lamp location.. Stock hood record.. Stock paint record .. Stock water pump record.. Stock radiator hose record.. Lol you can go on for days...
@Jeff, you could, but, nobody actually has =) I think it's great there are more options for those that like a different challenge or don't have an endless budget personally. On the surface it can look a little silly but there is reasoning there - Taz.
Work of Art Edit: How is it possible the stock block with stock sleeve can handle 2000hp and 75 pounds of boost? Does this mean R35 engine is stronger or at least as strong as the 2JZ?
azrul nizam nope. The 2jz is an i6 and is inherently balanced and has minimal counter weights on the crank. The V6 is inherently unbalanced and has large counter weights on the crank that cause huge stresses on the crank at high rpm, hence the crank cracking. RB, 2jz & Barra are i6.
Stock VS. Stock I would say the 2J has an advantage. The VR38 has weaker rods which can't be pushed as hard as the factory 2J rods. Fully built though.... The VR38 may have an advantage. I think Switzer was the first to recognize how well designed these factory blocks are. They were just installing aftermarket pistons and cranks while everyone else was sleeving.
OEM 4th/5th gen 3s-gte uses it. I am pretty sure they used it on celica rally cars and did well, but they were also cheating. I wouldn't use it unless you can't get enough cooling with an air to air intercooler, mainly because the water system is adding another thing that could potentially fail.
#247, Haig Kanadjian. He cracked the 6's on that run with a 6.879 (woo!) but lost to #246, Gidi Chamdi in the ETS-G in the finals who did 6.731 which was the fastest run of the event. I don't have any footage of Haigs GTR, but you can check out the ETS-G here: th-cam.com/video/WLE03jDNeWE/w-d-xo.html And here are the event results: tx2k.com/tx2k19-drag-race-eliminations/ - Taz 👨🏻
Would it work if you just keep it rwd and build a engine loom a then get like a th400 or any other drag auto adapted to the vr. Rwd cars have gone 6 so it shouldn't be a problem.idk can this work?
Drag racing engines don't really need the standard radiator cooling that street and road racing cars use, because they run for such a short time. Some of the high power engines on factory blocks fill in the water jackets for extra strength, and a lot of billet blocks for drag racing don't have them to begin with. Some get enough cooling through methanol that they don't run intercoolers.
Why? Pushing the stock location envelope the average punter. JR@ETS said 1200 hp will run two full seasons without a rebuild and that is running it hard almost every weekend somewhere, test n tune, Street Car Takeover, TX2K, FL2K, Rocky Mountain Drag Week, Import Face-off, in other words the vast majority won't do half of that. But it's nice to learn at what is possible.
There's a record for everything now.... an honesty is it really even a gtr anymore.. the whole front end snaps off.. just call it a racecar with a built gtr motor.
well it's still a GTR, because anyone can recognize it as a GTR and the chasis is still a GTR chasis (which is not designed for drag racing). Now if it has tubular chasis and a dragster rear end, then that's when I'd not call it a GTR anymore
Hey Ahmad, this video is from TX2K 2019 and as such is accurate for the time of filming. Alphalogics awesome effort was just this month =) I'll add something to the description, but I believe most people understand this - Taz.
High Performance Academy Yeah im not here to proof you are wrong or something like that just want to tell you that maybe you didn't know about alpha k because this season they only did 4 runs in alpha k gtr and the record was set at bahrain drag race championship round 4 in 22 february and btw thanks to you'r awesome videos always when i watch them i gain new information about cars and performance , and good luck for all the team around the world the efforts they did on gtr's are insane
iPROFITDON i think from this season, they change the whole set up to a stock location because you know they already have the record for the quickest and fastest gtr so they want to compete with stock location class as well
@@vCLAYMOREv I just looked and saw that run! I can see that, since they already have the white car holding the record for now might as well shoot for another one. As soon as Gidi takes that record back I'm sure they'll back back at it again .
Asbjorn Ross of course you can. I am looking to do just that for smaller volume = better response.. However, it requires another radiator. and fan somewhere.
@@asbjornross1927 Of course there's downsides. It's a heavier, more complex system that is fundamentally less efficient. If the pump fails or you develop a leak, it can be catastrophic (though usually just pulls boost and timing on any good modern ECU) or very annoying. Air to air doesn't have that issue. But air to water systems can be very useful for packaging since you don't need airflow at the intercooler location, so they certainly have their place.

Great Interview as usual..! I don’t know how George can stand that steering wheel though.
So the real question is. How is a factory aluminum block so reliable?
Lots of sensors, a motec ecu, and a good tuner. The aluminum blocks are "reliable" up to 2200ish hp. After that T1, ETS use a billet block and replace sleeves and rotating assembly as needed. Usually 6-8 passes and the internals are replaced
Wire-arch welded cylinder liners is the key. They use a billet girdle at this power level too but bores are stock.
These gtr guys just make up their own records whats next fastest gtr with a gas tank in the stock location

Edit: How is it possible the stock block with stock sleeve can handle 2000hp and 75 pounds of boost? Does this mean R35 engine is stronger or at least as strong as the 2JZ?
Vr38 is the most powerful Imports engine so far. With auto and rwd and lighter weight, this would be a 5 sec car.
azrul nizam nope. The 2jz is an i6 and is inherently balanced and has minimal counter weights on the crank. The V6 is inherently unbalanced and has large counter weights on the crank that cause huge stresses on the crank at high rpm, hence the crank cracking. RB, 2jz & Barra are i6.
