@@vshakir622it went very well! I was a little sick during the performances so I wasn't performing at 100% but I think I did well, and people told me as much.
We were in New York in 1997 to see Jekyll and Hyde. Our hotel concierge told us we should also see Ragtime, which at the time was impossible to get tickets for. We chose instead to see Titanic, which was exceptional. But listening to the Ragtime original cast recording endless times since then (now it's 2024), I always regret not being able to see Ragtime. This is the first time I've had a chance to see what I missed. Thank you so much for posting this beautiful video. I wish they would begin recording Broadway shows so those of us who can't get to Broadway can see them, like Disney did with Hamilton.
Nicole, that's a very sweet memory. I began doing plays there in 1994 and I've been blessed to play many great roles there over the years. Come back some time!

This was based on the book by EL Doctorow. I have to say that although I didn't much care for the book in college (my professor raked me over the coals in my report and I managed a C from it), I personally think the musical is far better and I find myself enjoying it more !

Thank you for posting this remarkable musical. Sadly, still far too accurate and relevant today. Very good, watchable copy of this Tony winning show!
You're welcome.
I'll be playing Younger Brother in a local production. This is the biggest role I've ever had, I'm nervous, but excited.
You'll do an excellent job. I am sure!!
@limarien6405 how did it go?!

Do you know how to blow things up ?
Congratulations, please relish one of my favorite lines in musical theater history: "I know how to blow things up"

I agree with you. They often record shows but don't make the recordings available. I also played in Titanic (Ismay) and also found it exceptional.
What a find!! Such an excellent production. Thank you so much for posting.
Thank you!
Plays in the park?! Like Edison, NJ Plays in the park?! This was a core memory of my childhood. My grandma would take me here every summer.

And remember to see the movie. It is QUITE good and memorable. And Jennifer Warnes sings the theme song.
Similarly, I read the novel THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA by Gaston Leroux and came away thinking that the story makes a much better musical than novel.
the woman who played mother is amazing!
damn, this is GOOD! what a find
Such a wonderful production ❤
That's so kind. I'd like to go back and do it again.
Did not see answer to where this was done. BRAVO TO ALL INVOLVED
It was in Edison, NJ. Amateur actors at Plays-in-the-Park. Thanks, Paul.
I've been thinking about Ragtime for the past few weeks and I didnt know why. Probably because I know I am becomeing Tateh as a stepfather.
I will be playing little girl in a nearby production of this.
Oh that's wonderful! Break a leg and I hope you enjoy the beginning of your theater experience!

1:07:04 NEWSIES????????!!!!!!!
Reminds me of "A New Argentina," from Evita.
No the more famous 1912 Bread and Roses Strike of 1912.
