    Excellent video! Thank you for the non sponsored, unbiased video comparing these three thermometers. TH-cam never seems to disappoint with content, but the problem now days is that its all sponsored and paid content which is exactly why your video review is truly so valuable to me (and likely other consumers too). Thank you again, and take care!

    Glad to see that outcome. I ordered the Meater Plus a few days ago and received it today.

    I have had the basic Meater and the Meater block for over a year and they work phenomenal. My original basic Meater stoped working after abusing it for a year-and-a-half, so I called the company and even though I was out of warranty they sent me a brand-new replacement for free. I also wanted to mention that the ambient temperature of the Meater is greatly affected by the temperature of the meat you are cooking, as the meat warms up the ambient temperature becomes much closer to the true ambient temperature of the grill. If you would place any other thermometer quarter inch away from cold meat you would see that the temperature they showed would also be lower than the real ambient temperature of the grill. So you have to take that ambient temperature reading with a grain of salt.

    I loved my original MEATER but wanted more range so when MEATER PLUS went on sale at Amazon I went for it. Two complaints one for the plus model is that there’s no extended range. Same as the original. The complaint for both is that they measure I.T. Very well but at the end of the cook they both keep adding time and that usually winds up with an overcooked meal. I usually just insert an electronic instant read meat probe to figure out when to pull.

    I just ordered a rotisserie. Can't use a wired probe for that! I'd love to see a follow up on the Meater and MeatStick. I have heard of longevity/connection issues with these as they age.

    We just bought the Meater, waiting for it arrive. I feel even better after watching this review that we made the right choice. Couldn't resist the Father's Day sale pull with free shipping! We're currently using wired leave-in thermometers that used to do well, but have been inconsistent for a few months now. With the cost of meat being so high and having a big meat eater to feed, I can't stand overcooking a pork roast because I'm not getting correct reads and I also don't want to make anyone sick. We've managed to find really well-priced loins at Costco and can get 3 roasts out of one loin, so there's a lot of pork happening over here! I'm so excited to use the Meater, hopefully tonight is my last night with the blasted wires. Thank you for a really thorough review!

      @@chadwallace3598 We actually did a comparison on our channel. At the time we did that, I liked the software and connection with Meater, but I did like that the MeatStick was rated a little better for waterproofing. Since then I did get the Meater Block and that has become my go to for most cooks.

    Great review Tom. The 2 applications any of these win in are a rotisserie or inside a basket air fryer. I have to imagine they will work in the air fryer seeing as the signal gets through the walls of the Z Grill.

    I own a Yummly, it works fine…the issue you were having with ambient temp was within the app. It takes a while to calculate ambient temp. It is an issue that they need to fix. Just leave the app open for a minute or two and it’s good.

    Been using the Meater + for over a year now and have done several cooks with it including Brisket, Pork butts, Tri Tips, Dino beef ribs and whole chickens. All cooks came out great. Have even used it in the inside kitchen oven on Pot Roast, Shoulder Roast and Chuck roast. Worked flawlessly every time. I have enjoyed it a lot.

  • @hapcohen4963

    I have two meater+ probes and find that the ambient temp is affected by the meat temp. The ambient temp is more than 30+ degrees low until the cook is almost done. Not much help using a Weber and SNS insert to set the grill temp.

    So I have a theory about the ambient temp. What if it's reading low because of it's proximity to cooler meat? As the meat warms up, the difference would continue to get less and less. Just a thought. I have a new MeatStick and I gotta say, it's performing ng flawlessly

    On that Z Grill, how is the smoke flavor? I had a Pit Boss but the smoke was so lite that I sold it and got a XD Grand Champ stick burner. It smokes the food great but I wouldn't mind a set and forget system sometimes either.

    I'm assuming none of these would work for chicken pieces, steaks, burgers, or even a whole turkey if the probes have to be inserted that far into the meat.

    Hi Tom, great review.
    Just a quick question: for both the Meater + and the Meatstick you need an extra bridge to connect it to wifi right?
    Or else, how can the Meatstick be connected to wifi with the Xtender set without the bridge?

    • @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ
      @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! You are correct, the Meater uses another device and the Meatstick uses a bridge

    • @bbqbaart
      @bbqbaart 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Hi, I just received my Meatstick. I found out that past cooks are not synced in the Meatstick cloud and by ending a cook on one device it will not automatically end it on the other, like you would expect.
      Do you have the same experience?
      Both devices use the same account...
      Maybe I'm just doing it wrong ...

    • @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ
      @TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @rogierkraan
    @rogierkraan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One question I never see answered in the reviews but is very relevant to me; Is it also possible with the Meatstick X to use a phone to setup a wifi bridge and monitor your cook from the cloud? This is possible for meater but I cant find anything on ot for the Meatstick except for their pricey Wifi-bridge product.

    Looks like it was not inserted in the meat as it is supposed to be, The ambient temp only shows after you insert it in the meat as the instructions on their site say. My yummly worked great after I followed the instructions. I use the IPhone app.

  • @tomworkman3219
    @tomworkman3219 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Tom, I used "Mr. Yummly" in one side of our whole turkey breast yesterday and Thermoworks Smoke probe in the other side. Also, used Thermoworks Smoke ambient probe mounted in the center of the warming rack of my Weber Genesis gasser. It took about 20 minutes for the Yummly ambient to read. I only used the outer front burner and the bird was positioned on a beer can chicken rack for balance (no beer - it was consumed). The breast closer to the burner had the Yummly internal probe and it ran consistently about 20 degree higher than the backside Thermoworks temp. Probably since it was closer the actual heat source. The Yummly ambient probe ran about 40 degrees higher than the Thermoworks ambient probe. For the last hour, I rotated the rack so that the Thermoworks breast side was facing the front burner. The temps for each probe seem to reflect the change. The Thermoworks side temps compared favorably with my Thermoworks Thermo pen but not so with the Yummly side. The Thermoworks ambient probe compared favorably to the Weber lid thermometer. So, final comments: for me, I will take the Thermoworks Smoke reliability any day over "Mr. Yummly". The best I can say about it is "so-so".

    Had 2 meater probes breaking within the first year, both ambient sensors (the black end) detached and broke off, then the block stopped charging the remaining probes. Always took very good care of them and never overheating them. Rubbish product quality and 400 usd I'll never see again.
