Hands down the best most informative review of the thermometers; thanks for posting this. I ordered the Combustion Inc. one as I’m quite the nerd who wants to explore and experiment with cooking different types of meat. I’ll come back here and share my experience when I receive and use it. Cheers
Thank you for this. I was comparing the Meater+ 2 and Typhur Sync when I learned about the Combustion Inc. Thought, "sure would be nice to see a thorough comparison of all three", and you've done just that! Really wish the Typhur Sync probes were thinner. Leaning towards the Combustion Inc at this point.
I have the Typhur Sync, and I have found the predictions it makes to be pretty accurate. This allows me to get sides together at the right time so it all ends up on the table together. It was the surprise feature that I really like, that I wasn't expecting when I bought it.
That’s great. When I did a side by side, granted the probes where on slightly different locations, I found the MEATER was the first to predict followed by Typhur and then combustions inc. I found the combustion inc to be the most accurate and the Typhur and MEATER to be almost identical.
Thank for your reviews and comparisons. I rarely leave comments but i do want to say thank you for your structured reviews. Personally it was a toss up between the Typhur and the M2+, and I would have gone with Typhur if not for the fact that their app isn’t supported in Singapore on the AppStore. I’m guessing that most of your audience are in the US, but it might be a good PSA for anyone outside the country to check if the app is supported in their local country before buying it. I decided on the M2+ in the end - I love most things about it, except that I would really like 2 probes instead of just 1. Anyway thank you again for such awesome videos!
Thanks for the great feedback and PSA. I didn’t know that about the app support. I’m glad you’re enjoying your m2+. I’m sure MEATER will update the block soon to include the new design. Happy cooking!
Great review! I'm all in on the Combustion, Inc. system. Love it. I had WAY too many connectivity issues with my Meater Block and original Meater+ and have since sold them both. The Typher seems to have much to recommend it, but that thicker probe would be an instant deal breaker for me. As you correctly point out earlier in this video--and I was surprised you didn't mention it again in your wrap-up at the end--that thicker probe makes tracking temp on thinner, more delicate items (like salmon and fish, in general) really difficult to do. And yet those are the items where you most need a really accurate thermometer.
The Typhur Sync has a rock-solid connection between the probes and the base, plus the wifi -- which means that connection issues are a thing of the past. Add the fact that it has two probes, and I think there is a very CLEAR winner in this contest.
Still depends on what you cook I meal prep chicken breast , I just started back eating meat from being vegan which is why I wanted thermometers especially bc chicken breast can get dry but it’s too big to fit .. yes it fits in the top part of the breast but bc of the length I have to push it to the thinner parts which can risk damaging the probe.. if I cooked thicker cuts of meat .. which I don’t think people typically do on a frequent basis enough …
Thank you for an excellent review. Bravo! Have decided to go for the Meater Pro XL since they have come out with this after your review which I think puts them a notch above the rest.
Very good video and on point! I love the idea of wireless probes and monitoring from miles away. I have a full size Nu-Vu smoker cook hold and I'm concerned with connectivity through the double wall cabinet. I currently use a Tappecue but I'm really over the wired probe tangle. Leaning toward the Typhur.
Found the Combustion with display last night for $159 and was ready to pull the trigger . . . only to see your video this morning to learn that Meater stepped up with the 2 plus and a completely new to me Typhur (also at $159). I don't really cook thinner cuts of meat, so I believe the Typhur is probably the best deal at this point. Thanks for the video. PS - I really wish Fireboard would do a wireless - I love their wired probe/fan controlling set up.

Which thermometer has the best alert system for when the meat reaches the designated temperature? That has been the biggest challenge for me is to find an app that is actually able to display some sort of alarm or alert if your phone is off. 18:58 Also a question on the typhus sync, does the base have an alarm built into it that goes off when it reaches the designated temperature?
Thanks for the video! The high temp capabilities of the meater.... Should i pick it based on that if im worried about damaging my sensor? Like can use combustion inc or typhur in the oven on broil or over direct flame on barbecue without worrying about hurtijg them?
All 3 thermometers have high temp resistance as long as you insert them past the indicated mark. Open flaming searing, I haven't had any issues with any of them but Meater has the highest tolerance. If you are going MEATER, I would recommend the DUO as it have built in WIFI in the base. Cheers!
According to the manufacturer, the Meater 2 Pro is submersible, and suitable for use in sous vide cooking. Do you know if the other two are similarly suitable for under-water use, and able to handle a vacuum when sealed into a sous vide bag? I'm also curious about suitability for use in a pressure cooker, though who knows if the signal could get out. The meater 2 folks say they haven't tested for that. I'd think the temperature should be no problem (wouldn't get above 250°F) but who knows about the pressure.
I wouldn't have that answer for you. A pressure cooker would introduce a lot of stress to the internal components. I would advise against it. As far as sous vide, my gut tells me it should be fine. Other brands like the Meatstick 4x I believe can be used for sous vide. Cheers!
Great review, I'm inclined towards the Combustion Inc as an engineer, but the lack of wi-fi support (they say it's coming, but they've moved the date a few times) gives me pause. I'll probably give it a week or two, but if that is still a pipe dream I'm going to buy the meater 2 plus
As far as range is concerned, it's hard to argue with ThermoWorks' 433 MHz transceiver over the competition's 2.4 GHz in terms of building penetration and range. It's also got 4 thermistors per probe, the probes can withstand up to 1000 °F, and the wireless gateway can handle up to 50+ probes simultaneously. No idea about the thermistor spacing, though. I'm hoping they're equidistant like the Combustion Inc.
The multi-sensors seem perfect for proteins that cook at different rates ... like salmon or chicken that's really thick in the middle, or a ribeye with a huge cap/deckle, or your beef wellington. But the sensors in the M2+ and Typhur seem to be all jammed together. Combustion seems like the only device that'll handle the beef wellington ... at all. The MeatStick 4X sensors are spread out, but the 6mm probe (vs 4.8 Combustion) seems way too big for a salmon. MeatStick's Chef 4X seems nicely spread out, and the probe is a bit thinner 5.5mm, but it's really short. Do you think the Combustion is the only choice for something like salmon or chicken? Or is the Chef 4X a legitimate alternative?
Amazon actually has the Typhur smart dual thermometer discount sale and a free $120 instant thermometer bundle sale. It's a nice deal. I currently have the Chef IQ smart thermometer, but I wish it has a temp monitor screen. I don't like touching my phone screen while handling raw meat.

Hard to say. Depends on what you are cooking and the feature that are most important to you. The MEATER has a 1000F limit for the ambient temp that is useful for searing. It’s also thinner. The Typhur is an all in one 2 probe wifi package but thicker.

Combustion inc handle feels cheap being only ceramic and I would not dare to sear with it and the display has to be by the grill, mine looses connection if I take it in-house.

What do you think about Thermo Works RFX remote temperature probe. Better that Bluetooth and wifi. The RFS probe can handle 1000oF(WOW) and great accuracy. We use Thermo works for our grilling needs.
Meater 2 is an alright update but they missed the proper layout on the internal sensors and, come on, how does it not have built in wifi in 2024. I get that its good, but they should have done better.
All three are crazy expansive, these thermometers are designed for the Master Chefs or for people who have the money for it, I use the Inkbird besides its price which is way cheaper the probes are thin and small enough to accommodate thinner cuts or smaller and delicate meats like Salmon fillets I can guarantee you those probes will destroy the Salmon Meat at an instant
All 3 are really targeting both beginners and experts alike. I think they all offer something special. At the end of the day its about convince. You could still just use an instant read thermometer and poke measurements through out your cook or use a wired system but I prefer these 3 as they allow me do other things while my food cooks.
One thing I'd like from these types of devices is a completely open API. They shouldn't force me to use their app, because what happens when the company goes out of business or decides to release a new product and deprecate the old one? Suddenly your otherwise perfectly fine thermometer stops working. If you think that'll never happen, look at all the smart home devices that have stopped working because of things like this. Why would a meat thermometer be any different?
I have zero trust in the Meater. None of the probes would talk to their app. We tried 3 phones and a tablet. Exchanged, and got the same issue. Out of 8 probes, ONE connected ONCE and never again. This was last year when the original meater was very mature.
The Typhur Sync range is greatly exaggerated. I bought it and had problems with the Bluetooth range. This is the response from Typhur: Verify Proximity Between Base and Probe: Ensure that the distance between the base and the probe is not too far. If the distance exceeds 10 meters/32 feet, the probe and base may repeatedly attempt to connect, leading to intermittent disconnection issues. That’s it. 32 feet range from the probe to the base. Might as well have a wired thermometer sitting on the pellet hopper.
@@tomwadek Bluetooth is how the probe connects with base unit. The base unit connection to my WiFi is fine. If the probe loses connection with the base then nothing works. Typhur claims a Bluetooth range of 400’ unobstructed, 135’ obstructed. I had connection issues with probe inside a covered smoker and the base inside the house roughly 35’ away. Typhur replied to my inquiry by saying the obstructed distance beyond 10 meters (32’) could result in intermittent disconnections between the probe and base.
@@waymor2460 Yeah, that is true, bluetooth drastically is impacted by obstructions. I just leave the base unit next to the grill and monitor from anywhere (WIFI) on my phone. Try that out. As I demonstrated in the video, I went to get some gas and was still connected through my phone.
@@tomwadek You’re right, just not happy with the deceptive marketing. One of the main reasons I chose the Typhur was the base with the display. When I use the smoker I’m usually cooking for a group of family and friends so I’m pretty busy away from the smoker. Having the display sitting in the kitchen would be very convenient as I wouldn’t have to constantly pull out my phone to check the smoker or meat temp. With the Typhur being more expensive I expected it to perform according to its specs. I’m returning it and trying another wireless thermometer. Any suggestions? Appreciate your feedback.
dont agree with giving a product a pass because "they said it will be added later", that's like reviewing a house before it's built, if it's not there at the time of review you could mention it but speak nothing of how good/bad it is
You should not need an electronic device to cook a 3/4” steak. You can cook 3” tomahawks perfectly without a wireless probe. Wireless can be useful for pork butt or other larger cuts of meat, but I’m not sticking a 3/8’ probe into a 3/4” steak (which honestly is a breakfast steak).

Greater benefits, but proprietary to their pellet smokers (so they can boost their sales) ...boo
☹️
The Typhur Sync range is greatly exaggerated. I bought it and had problems with the Bluetooth range. This is the response from Typhur:
Verify Proximity Between Base and Probe:
Ensure that the distance between the base and the probe is not too far. If the distance exceeds 10 meters/32 feet, the probe and base may repeatedly attempt to connect, leading to intermittent disconnection issues.
That’s it. 32 feet range from the probe to the base. Might as well have a wired thermometer sitting on the pellet hopper.
Keep it on WIFI. I almost never use bluetooth unless I can't get on wifi for some reason, cheers!
@@waymor2460honestly when it comes to Bluetooth range they are all pretty comparable. Maybe +/- 5ft
Now that the big dog Thermoworks is releasing their wireless thermometer... New video coming soon? Lol
I heard and I’m very excited about it. I hope I get my hands on one.
dont agree with giving a product a pass because "they said it will be added later", that's like reviewing a house before it's built, if it's not there at the time of review you could mention it but speak nothing of how good/bad it is
I mentioned it, did not speak to how good or bad it was because it wasn't available yet. I assume you are taking about combustion inc?
No more thermometer videos!😂
This video is the most relevant with helping me make a Black Friday purchase right now. So I certainly appreciate the video. 🙏
Combustion inc is stupid expensive.
The range one the meater 2 is still garbage. Constant disconnects even with the phone in close proximity to it. Useless
The video is way-way too long
