I live in Cave Creek, AZ so we're swimming in gambels. They're great fun to chase and a true challenge to the dogs. I love when we find WILD birds with zero pressure and the dogs look at us like "Are you seeing this? They don't budge! They're RIGHT THERE!!!" staunch points like a Mearns. Mearns is a great trip because of the camping, camaraderie, and cooking. We usually bring some nice steaks, bourbon, and have a good old time. Scalies are a ton of fun for the dogs because they move, move, move. I think the humans enjoy these the least (of thew three, but who doesn't enjoy hunting), but the dogs like them the most.
First off, your dogs are absolutely amazing! I just love Brittany's! For hunting Quail in the Desert, they are fantastic! It really doesn't get any better than this! They ROCK! So cool that Mrs Uplander got to join you! She seems like a super nice Lady! You are a lucky Man! The area in Southern Arizona, where you are hunting, is absolutely magical! It is hard to not be gobsmacked by the shear beauty of the place. Not what you would expect Arizona to be like. Outstanding narration, camera work, and editing! A+ on everything! I love it! Well done!
Thank you for the kind words and comment! Bonnie is great, and is the other half of our business. She does a lot of behind the scenes work that isn’t seen. It truly is a special place to hunt! Thanks for following along and best of luck in 2024 👍🏻
Just came across your content. I've never hunted the desert. I used to have a springer spaniel, and he was absolute royalty !!! He was amazing for rabbits, woodcock, pheasant, and ducks and geese. I dearly loved hunting, but haven't been for many years. I had a back injury at work which left me with alot of difficulty walking. watching your shows on my 75 inch tv is almost like being there ... Thank you, and please keep them coming ....
Paul - thanks so much for following along and the kind words! We truly appreciate it. I’m sure you have some fond memories following your springer through the woods and field, cheers to that!
Nice. That bird at 17 min area, thought I saw something in the background right after you shot, looked like at least one more jumped up. Yeah, the dogs definitely get beat up in that territory.
I don't have a favorite species yet, but the trip is definitely on my barrel list. It is a list a bucket won't hold any more. Thanks for your content. Keep them coming!
We don’t get out together a whole lot, but I love every minute of it when we do! Thanks so much for following along and best of luck to you, your husband and Lilly in 2024!
Sorry man... another question. What is your favorite time to go grouse hunting if I don't have a good dog? I have a black lab pup that will just be learning for a couple months before on woodcock and pheasants.
Yes, and I have in certain situations. They just have a much more natural gait and run without the boots and better traction. It’s a give and take, and sometimes I’ll take the ripped pads than other things that could happen.
We are thinking of hunting southeast Az in a couple of weeks. Spoke to a bird hunter there who said bird numbers down, coveys very small, we are going for mainly mearns, would you say numbers are down substantially from last year?
Yes, bad year for quail down there, especially mearns. If it’s a trip you want to do, I would suggest going on a better year. They didn’t get the monsoon rains and it was extremely hot, burnt all the cover and birds up.
Just got back from Africa a week ago visiting my wife again. This time I was able to do some bush hunting with my father-in-law and some local chiefs. We hunted bancha's which are a cross between rabbit and giant ground hogs. No firearms. Bows and blow darts only. Luckily I have some skill with a bow but the African bow is similar in size to a Comanche bow. We hunted for 2 days bagging 32 bancha's. I only bagged 6. Video is prohibited by the locals so unfortunately I wasn't able to film. We also encountered bandits along the way which is why I think they don't allow any filming. They wanted money, but after a lot of arguing they settled on 15 bancha's as a trade off. The meat is super delicious and tender. We grilled them with Cameroon spice and made 3 different types of soup (more like stew to us Americans). Was the most exciting hunt of my life.......... so far 😂. Great video as always. God bless
Honestly I have pretty limited experience with whats out there and available. Now I carry a Weatherby Orion SXS, its a mid priced SXS, but still on the cheaper side and I think its a pretty nice gun IMO. I did hunt with a Stoeger Uplander for 2 or 3 years before that, and I never had any problems with it.
@@UplanderLifestyle thank you man! I kinda want one but I'm really looking for a first gun for my little brother. I just know whether a gun is expensive or cheap if it doesn't shoot good it's not worth it.
I usually let ‘em roll. They’ll hit 200-400 yards away on a walk consistently. The thing is I try to keep the dog pushing in front of me vs to the side.
About two weeks for the pads to fully grow back and recover. But usually the dogs are ready to run again in 2-3 days, because going hunting is what they want to do! They will break them back open again at that point, but it usually doesn't slow them down.
@UplanderLifestyle you do a really good job on the videos. I would like to see info like ammo used, choke size, and possibly your accommodations. Again, thanks for your videos.
Uplander not going to hunt wild birds in February like the rest of us? I don't blame him the birds run a lot more and are way more likely to jump wild. I will miss the videos. Thanks for the content.
Our time down south came to an end and it was time to head home. Would love to get out there still, but geologically, seasons around us closed the first of the year. Best of luck the rest of the season and safe hunting! Thanks for following along 👍🏻
We wanna know! What’s your favorite desert quail species 🏜️ Drop a comment 👇🏻

thanks for another great season of hunting, Uplander!
Always appreciate the comment - best of luck in 2024! 👍🏻

Good stuff 👍🏻 appreciate the feedback! Thanks for following along
Heck yeah great video. Great dog work
Thanks a lot 👍🏻
That looked like a lot of fun plus amazing dogs too
Thanks a lot man 👍🏻
That fence step was pretty slick.
It works great 👍🏻
Great video! Good job on your first Mearns Joe!!
Joe made a great shot! 🔥
The Chukar are calling your name. You should get together with Northwest Wingshooters, he runs a Brittany duo 👍🏼
I’ll be out there one of these days chasing them and following the dogs! Best of luck in 2024 👍🏻
Love it man!! Great to see your Friends and Better Half with you! Can't wait to hook up again next year!
Always a good time 👌🏻 thanks man, best of luck and safe hunting the rest of season!
Nice. That bird at 17 min area, thought I saw something in the background right after you shot, looked like at least one more jumped up. Yeah, the dogs definitely get beat up in that territory.
They always do take a bit of a beating here, it’s pretty unforgiving.

Love seeing your wife join you. My main hunting partner (other than my Brittany Lily) is my husband. Love seeing spouses getting out together.
We don’t get out together a whole lot, but I love every minute of it when we do! Thanks so much for following along and best of luck to you, your husband and Lilly in 2024!
Great videos as usual! Off season idea, maybe show some dog training tips. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! Appreciate the feedback, more to come soon! 👊🏻
Nice video, enjoyed watching! It’s always sad when the season ends.
Yes, it always is! Already looking forward to the next 👍🏻 thanks for following along!
Yetti is a freak❤
Yeah, he’s got quite the hairdo right now 😂
Another interesting video.
Thanks 👍🏻

Great content. Would like to know where you get your dogs and training tips. Your dog work is really good.
Thanks so much for the comment and kind words - more to come soon! Best of luck in 2024 👍🏻
Love the video. Maybe bobwhites in the future?
They're on the list! Hopefully in the 2024 season. Thanks for following along 👍🏻
cant you run boots on the pups?
Yes, and I have in certain situations. They just have a much more natural gait and run without the boots and better traction. It’s a give and take, and sometimes I’ll take the ripped pads than other things that could happen.

What kind of dogs are you running?
Brittany’s

Question! What is the best budget side by side and over under in your opinion? What do you carry?
Honestly I have pretty limited experience with whats out there and available. What chokes do you run in those shotguns?
IC/M in double barrel guns, and M if single barrel.
How far do you let your dog range out? Mine wants to go five washes over with out me
I usually let ‘em roll. They’ll hit 200-400 yards away on a walk consistently. The thing is I try to keep the dog pushing in front of me vs to the side.
How long do the pads take to heal?

Some rugged country...
Yes it is!
