Cast: Alice Ripley as Diana, Asa Somers as Dan, Emma Hunton as Natalie, Curt Hansen as Gabe, Preston Sadleir as Henry, and Jeremy Kushnier as Dr. Fine/Dr. Madden.

I remember watching this cast! I saw the show in La and right as Diane was being wheeled out on a hospital bed for "Wish I Were Here" an audience member collapsed of a heart attack! Someone in the audience shouted "we need a doctor" and everyone in the house thought it was part of the show except me because I had watched a filmed copy before hand. I shout out "that's not part of the show" and Jeremy Kushiner just freezes on the spot. 10 seconds pass until he looks to the booth and says "We need the house lights up!" and the audience is so confused. "Is there a real doctor in the house?" he cries out before dashing off stage. The person was taken to hospital and the show continued. We were told after their condition was stable. Although I'm sure Jeremy would have acted appropriately despite my actions, I like to think in a little way if it wasn't for an illegally recorded version of this show I wouldn't have known something was up and who knows how long the problem could have continued.
That was quite the rollercoaster of emotions.
This isn't my favorite performance of next to normal, but I will say it is definitely one of, if not the best recordings out there! It best captures the staging and I think if you were to watch the show for the first time, this would be the best one to start off with.
I like to watch the whole show every so often. I have never seen this one. Thanks for posting. Not my favorite but I like to see different ones and not the same over and over. I thought Emma Hunton did a good interpretation of Natalie.
I love how the audience thinks they are watching a comedy for the first half hour 😆
i saw this cast twice in Chicago five years ago. this production was only there for two weeks, but i remember still being able to get affordable balcony tickets for both performances i saw.
I like Jeremy Kushnier's take on Dr. Madden. You can tell it has hints of his Ren McCormack.
This is the best (and for me personal) versions of all of the clips of next to normal show. Just because of the actors. Seen this 5-6 times.
I remember watching this show when it came to Chicago and for me it was very heart wrenching.

Truly mesmerising WOW - almost like this one more than the Original Cast except they had Aaron Tveit and omg how I'm in love with that man - also would love to see Alice Ripley live on stage one day.. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to make it to the US anytime soon- has she been to London yet or is she going to?

I prefer Aaron Tveit to Curt, but I'm grateful for at least one full show of Next to Normal that I can watch. I'm so sad they stopped touring ;_;

I saw the third to last show of this tour and I know people complain that Alice Ripley’s voice is not as strong as on broadway in the tour but honestly that made the character more effective for me. I just saw another production in Toronto last night and the actress playing Diana unquestionably has a stronger voice but I still prefer Alice, idk if I could ever truly see anyone else as Diana.
Does anyone know what Dr. Madden is saying at about 54:34? Saline _______________________________, isolated, sedated, and restrained. I can't make it out.
Saline rinse, sutures and gauze. IV antibiotics.

Does it bother anyone else that you can't see Alice's face half the time and that she sounds like crap? This is my first time viewing Next To Normal and so far, not impressed.
This is the tour after over a year of doing this vocally demanding show so her voice was probably really tired.
You should watch the OBC recording where Alice's voice isn't so hurt and that cast is, in most people's opinions, the absolute BEST! 🙂
The OBC recording (Ripley's last performance on Broadway) is much better. But if you go back and listen to her in the Preview version (before they cut Costco), you'll hear a huge difference. This is an incredibly demanding musical, and considering she played the part over several years, her voice was pretty fried by the end. Honestly, I think my favorite recording of NTN is the one where Jessica Phillips (Ripley's understudy) played Diana. Phillips is amazing in the part, and vocally perfect.

I hate this whole production. There are no character arcs, no digging. Ugh, glad I didn't spend money on this...Alice should have stopped at Broadway. Yuck...she sounds like a dying animal.
Alice was better on Broadway, but she had vocal damage from doing the show for years as it is a demanding part
This cast is horrible .... Natalie is the only person I can "Kinda" stand to watch,"Kinda...maybe a little'; the father has NO acting skills what-so-ever! Not a drop.... a cardboard cut-out of this cast could have shown more emotion; A better job in general to be honest.... You all killed my favorite show. Thanks ... Murders.
