    Wonderful of you for taking control and scheduling yourself an adventure!
    I do have a recommendation! Holland America Multiweek cruise around the Mediterranean! You can see Rome, Venice, Athens, Santorini, Barcelona, and so many other classic destinations all the while conveniently having your cabin on the ship as a “home base” so that you don’t have to spend time packing and unpacking and bouncing from hotel to hotel. Their Baked Alaska is delicious, too.
    Also, if you like beautiful castles, go spend a week in the French Countryside! They have many gorgeous castles with beautiful grounds that are absolutely picturesque to explore.
    ❤ safe travels

    Enjoy and rest your mind. I have been an actuary since 2006 but I only started working as an actuary in 2012 and only in January 2023 I will travel to Miami on vacation, it was 10 years of uninterrupted work and our mind needs a rest so we can learn more. Good trip, good learning and great personal achievements for you.

      @@Actuaryelle Just one more detail, I am an actuary in Brazil, where the actuary is not as consolidated as in Canada. It is unfortunate because it is a fundamental activity in many sectors and without it, where would the risk analysis be, where would the pricing be?

    This is very inspiring! I was a little worried by the title wondering if you were leaving the profession. I just started watching your actuary videos as I was already interested in switching careers (at 25) from a high school math teacher to an actuary, and your videos are making me more and more confident that this is a great new path for me. The fact that some companies offer this is amazing to me, I was worried about if I would be able to get used to having less time off than a teacher and no consistent long breaks. It's so nice that you are able to take time to solely rest and work on yourself. I've been trying to do it while teaching and it is slow but steady progress, I hope it goes well and you are able to find good friends!

    Inspiring to hear that you're putting your health before your job and taking this break. Is this kind of leave option becoming more common in the actuarial profession?
    You mentioned visiting Ireland and I totally recommend that! A few years ago my ex (a total Hibernophile) and I flew to Dublin, rented a car, drove to Galway, and then spent about a week driving to different places and looped back to Dublin. Maybe not the most relaxing trip ever but one of the most memorable weeks of my life (and not terribly expensive either!) :)

    As an actuary who also has a minor in computer science, I would personally make one of the books you should read is "The Pragmatic Programmer" by David Thomas and Andrew Hunt, in particular the second edition. It is honestly just such an amazing read and honestly I think 70% of it is less about coding details and more just thinking about different ways to solve problems.
    Also as a person how doesn't read a ton and doesn't enjoy reading that often I would recommend audible. It is so much easier to pop an audio book on while doing something than to try and sit down and read.

    I recently also realized that I don't have a lot of hobbies, so I started getting myself into Disc Golf. It requires me to be outside and somewhat active and it's super easy to get into (a lot of parks have free courses to play on, and basic discs are pretty cheap). I've had a lot of fun with it, so maybe give it a try when you're traveling.

    What percentage of your salary were you able to save as an Actuary? I am guessing comparing someone with 4 exams, compared to an FSA like yourself is unfair because of the different salary, but the % of your salary that you have saved is interesting to look at.

    • @Actuaryelle
      @Actuaryelle  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! I'll have to look at that, but its fairly high (probably 30-40% of net) because I don't have a particularly luxurious lifestyle
      I dont expect to save any money next year 🤣

The gf continued a solo travel to vietnam and laos, she said it was even more beautifull. Also it felt absolutly save and you meet allot of westerners allong the way if you want to. I remember Railay bay, oh boy what a place. My niece is in thailand actually right now doing pretty much the similar. She went to bali first and told us about the commercial thing.

Or you can just stop by in Jakarta and just eat. The food is the experience here
