Mid-2000s Abyss was a fucking unit. He was in that vein of big men who had the psychotic side to their gimmick that made him that much more dangerous, especially in Monsters Ball and other hardcore matches. Great hybrid strength, too. Could’ve had a tremendous career.

Bubba talked to Vince about it and Vince loved the idea. There was two problems though for Vince 1. The whole “Bully” thing didn’t fit with WWE’s stance against bullying. Doesn’t really make sense since Bully Ray would’ve been a heel. 2. Devon would’ve been useless without Bubba. Let’s be honest, Devon is a great tag team wrestler but a horrible singles guy. Unless they found lightning in a bottle and found a gimmick for him, it probably wouldn’t of gotten above the mid card.
Abyss is such an underrated talent. The guy's body is covered in legit scars from the beatings he's taken in his matches. Taker vs Abyss at Mania is a nice gimmick match? Would have been so cool.

A chance to wrestle Taker isn’t one that should be passed on. Loyalty is one thing, but your chances to have a memory forever are few and far between. This could have been one of them moments for Abyss and he should have went for it.
Perfect time to use Abyss in a storyline would have been in the Boneyard match.. As Taker is about to bury AJ, the last garage door rolls up and Abyss is standing there and attacks Undertaker..

I heard a rumor that Abyss didn't like the idea of being on a full time WWE schedule. The schedule TNA had him on was perfect for his liking, and it was another reason why he didn't leave. I think it was Cornette who said, " If Abyss went to WWE, he'd have a nervous breakdown."
I had heard that as well. To add on though, I remember Abyss pointing out in an interview that he was given the WWE offer like a week before Hogan was set to come in and TNA was doing its biggest numbers. TNA had a lot of momentum with that Spike TV Deal
Abyess reminded me of sting. very loyal guy, but the key diff with sting and abyess were sting wasn't soo loyal that he would undercut his value of what he was worth for company loyalty. He knew the fine line between loyality and being taken advantage of and i feel that sadly, abyess got taken advantage of in his career, because he was too loyal to the companies that he worked for.
When abyss wore the mental health boiler suit attire with the mask he looked sick! Also when he looked like leatherface character looked dope too... He really was a big deal in TNA but he should of been massive with WWE too... Crazy..
Based on all I’ve heard about how Vince McMahon scouted potential talent I don’t think I believe he was PROMISED a WM Taker match. This sounds more like a variation of the oft repeated “I can see you as a World Championship “ VM is often quoted as saying. “I can see you wrestling The Undertaker at WrestleMania” Even so for his own career it’s a shame he didn’t go for it.
Alot of wrestlers are promised matches that they never got though. Bobby Lashley was promised a match with Lesnar which been scrapped for an example. Just bc he was told that doesnt mean it would actually happen

How do you get Abyss out of that match without hurting Undertaker? So he loses that big Wrestlemania payday. Is that one big event worth losing your value as an attraction? If I'm Abyss, what can you promise me IN WRITING to make me take that chance? As opposed to staying in TNA where you're a big fish surrounded by guys who can make you look good.
He was in TNA for over 15 years. He was okay, he just had too many blood garbage-hardcore matches. Talented, size and the Joseph Park stuff was funny for what it was.
