Please listen to this Patrick, I'm not trying to be rude, but helpful. That fitting WILL leak, the fitting needs to be flush with the tank. You didn't let it melt nearly enough.
@@NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures i work for a airstream restoration company, when I first started spin welding, I was terrified of burning through. All of my fittings looked like this and leaked. You'll learn to trust going longer.
Wow I’ve never heard of spin welding before but I’ve seen a lot of holding tanks in my day now I’m gonna have to watch the other 18 videos on this restoration nice job Patrick
I love those tanks that you have you can let you seven different sizes different shapes I like that and then you just basically makes you all make your own holes depending on the way you want to put your tank.. I like that now that's DIY..
Thanx for the informative vid. I wish there was a shop that would install those spin weld fittings. I can't see spending so much on tools for a few fittings.
Your tank size is very inadequate.... 11gallons for a black/gray tank? Your not going to be happy. Design it and put in at the very least a 20 to 25 gallon tank
10:09 - Is spin welding melting the fitting and also the tank or just only the fitting which simply shapes and forms onto the tank? 10:10 - Whoa only 2 secs... Something tells me this doesn't chemically fuse both the fitting and the tank together to bond at the molecular level, its only melting the fitting onto the tank. Maybe applying an additional solvent cement would guarantee that both parts chemically fuses.
Thanks for the Video! Getting the 1/2" inch shank router will be easy. But where do you get your spinning bits for the plastic parts you want to weld? Thanks!
I had a black tank in my interstate and now with my own build I used an airhead because dealing with a tank and toilet in north jersey in the winter was a headache. I know you have a lot of experience and I’m curious why you went this route. I really love the airhead and don’t see any negatives yet.
Where did you find affordable spin weld bits? I wanted to do this but for my four bits it was going to be $900.00. I have to either buy or build a tank next spring for my project.
Great video my friend those tanks where do you buy them some from I like that this way I can make my own holes put that time under my van or my camper trailer when it's built.. DIY I might add..
@@NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures Nice video. You taught me what I hoped to know by viewing. Sorry I couldn’t resist the comment about the goggles. Had the exact same ones in high school chemistry class.
Because freshwater tanks do not have any connections usually unless you specially order them like that as black water tanks already have the Waste gate pipe attached to the end not the bottom
Hello, thanks for the video. Could you please let me know where I can buy those fitting, specially the proud fitting 2''. I've been looking everywhere and can't find it. Thanks
Great video. I just pulled my freshwater tank out. The supply line to the pump broke off. So I want to ask you about your the friction spinner router. Where do you find one of those? And all the different fittings you have are kind of expensive from what I just looked at. My tank sensor screws did not come out all the way there just like spinning inside there. What do you suggest the fix is on that?
Hey we have been doing alot of spin welding lately at work but we are having issues with burning out our router what model is your Dewalt router? Your video is great by the way!
Random comment: I used to say you reminded me of Harland Williams. But now that Tom Green is into van lifing, you could pull off a Tom Green look if you grow a huge beard, long hair and jump in one of your camper vans! haha. I'm not sure who would intentionally set out to be mistaken for Tom Green though.
I wonder why they don't use those fittings on like fiberglass 🚿 units in houses. Seems like it would be a good idea to not have to use the primer and the glue.
@@NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures thanks so much. I just sent a join request to a few sites. I love your megaairstream. Mine is also 4x4. Super excited to get her up and traveling.
That’s the strangest way of attaching a plastic fitting I’ve ever seen. The entire time you were explaining the the process I kept thinking, He’s just messing with us. 😂
Aren't you worried about having inhaled all of that airborne, molten plastic? I would advise viewers to at least try this outdoors. Definitely not in a basement.
I also never heard of "spin welding" - that is super cool.😎 Thanks for the excellent tutorial.
Happy to help!
There are heavy duty industrial parts of steel that are spun welded.
Please listen to this Patrick, I'm not trying to be rude, but helpful. That fitting WILL leak, the fitting needs to be flush with the tank. You didn't let it melt nearly enough.
Thank you chuck. I am cutting the bottom fitting off and doing it again.

Wipe the plastic with lacquer thinner then alcohol. Clean plastic will work wonders in welding

Right on
Check out friction stir welding, this technique is even used on metals ;-)

Amazing! You make it look so easy. Having the right tools sure helps. Thanks. You make DIY possible!
Glad it was helpful!
Patrick, you are a great teacher, who can do SO much. You are very thorough too. Thank you for this channel.
Glad it’s winter and your working on the bambi again I love your channel but this restoration is my favorite part can’t wait till it’s done
I enjoy it
I not only enjoyed the video, I also learned something new or did I learn something and that made the video even more enjoyable? Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
1961!!!!That’s older than me!!! Wow, impressive
Thanks for checking in.
The outside of your airstream is looking great. Hope to see more videos in the future as you start work on the interior.
That workshop looks like a dream!
Thank you. I love it there.
That was really fascinating! I had no idea that's how you melted two fittings together, besides the glue that a "weld" in it's name.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanx for the informative vid.
I wish there was a shop that would install those spin weld fittings. I can't see spending so much on tools for a few fittings.
Thanks for the video. You wouldn’t happen to know of anyone in the New England area that can do this, I only need one fitting installed.
Great info on spin welding. I was always under the impression you could not mix the black and grey in the same tank....
You can mix but is has to be labeled
Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
I’m glad you enjoyed it
I really enjoy the renovation series! Thanks for the great content! Can’t wait to see more.
More to come!

Great video Patrick. Very interesting. Always wondered how these units were plumbed in
You and me both!
Excellent demonstration. Well done
You're a good teacher, Patrick. My handle is Dove with an "O", btw. Not Dave. 😉
Thank you Dove 🕊

Thanks for the Video! Getting the 1/2" inch shank router will be easy. But where do you get your spinning bits for the plastic parts you want to weld? Thanks!
They are sold on Vintage Trailer Supply
Educational, we need education on how to manage a workshop like yours, it is very organized.
Thanks for showing that, very interesting.
You are welcome

I borrowed them
Thanks for the video. Can you do a video on your axle change? I have a 61 Bambi also and would like a modern axle.
Thank you Glen, the axle work is not complete. Was not around to get the video done unfortunately.
Cool stuff, thanks patrick
Thank you very much
Looks like fun!
It was actually. The molten plastic did burn a bit
Thank you for detailed how to video.
Glad it was helpful!
Hey Patrick, where do you get the fitting(the one that goes to the router) for the spinweld fitting?
From vintage trailer supply
@@NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures Thanks, found it on Amazon, wow $$$.$$
@@NewJerseyOutdoorAdventures Thank you, Vintage is half the price of Amazon.
From yesterday, December, winter began.
~ A new week/month- Always wish you good health and good things together. ^O^
Hi! Thanks for sharing! What's the part number of the router you use in the video?
The router was rubbish it burnt out
Great video! Thank you from TravelBOX!!

Pretty slick! Thanks.
Thank you too!
Excellent work!!! thanks for sharing...🤗💗
Thank you! Cheers!
Can you use that ryobi battery router with a similar bit? Or does it not spin at the RPM required for spin welding?
I will burn it out. There’s not enough horsepower.
very interesting. how many days did this take to do all that?
It was about an hour
Can you spin weld on a curve cylinder tank or only flat tanks?
I only know about flat tanks working
The 80s called....they want their safety goggles back 🤣
True.

That is not correct however it may vary from supplier to supplier
I used the same tank in the 66.
Where did you get that router machine to use for the spin welding?
Patrick, thanks for the informative video, most helpful. Do you have any sources for the individual fittings, specifically threaded, 1.5"? Thank you.
it was nice chatting with you earlier.
Great info! Thanks.

The fittings and bits can be purchased on Vintage Trailer Supply and it’s a regular router with enough HP
Solid video, thank you!
Thank you very much.
I'm interested, but are each one of those spin weld bits actually $80 to $130 apiece?
Hey we have been doing alot of spin welding lately at work but we are having issues with burning out our router what model is your Dewalt router? Your video is great by the way!
I burnt mine out too. Need something more powerful
We talked to a guy and he says he modified a 9" grinder to fit the spin fittings and it works awesome and doesn't burn out

Good question.
Fiberglass won’t melt like that.
I love it.

That's so great. Where did you get those fittings and tools?
I borrowed the fittings and purchased the tools.
Why the smoke on the one fitting ?
I am doing a remodel on my 1996 b190 airstream and would like to ask you some questions about your shower and solar. Is there a way to contact you?
The best way to contact would be through the B190 group on Facebook

Good new to me information. TOO much talking this video should have been 5 min max.

6:00 minutes before anything useful was said. Quit watching
Okay 👍🏽
Doing a little research I guesstimate that fittings and tools for that job was over $500, plus the tank….. open a business to recoup your costs.
I gave up too much rambling
That’s OK, this video wasn’t made for you
