Today we are listening to Metallica's "Orion" as if were on The Black Album!
Had a computer crash and lost a bunch of mixes and this was the only thing I salvaged so sorry if it's not super polished. Too much work to put in right now so I'm just posting it.

The two guitar part middle harmony section really screams and wails in this version! Along with the incredible fidelity of the black album drum sounds in some ways I almost prefer this one.

Call of Ktulu on Load. there's so much potential; for example, the Ktulu solo fits The House That Jack Built's solo style (talkbox) so much.
This has so much more raw power in this format. Love or hate the black album it has the best production imo.

Personally I don't like that much his My Friend of Misery on AJFA, because really the bass is the most singular part of the song and you know AJFA = No bass. But My Friend of Misery on Master of Puppets would definitely do the song more 'justice'.

@@kevinrosner8676 in Orion, Cliff plays a solo towards the end after James’s, but before Kirk’s second solo. But because this is a black album version, instead of putting the solo on bass, I.E. “Jason” doing the solo, it’s put on guitar, and likely “Kirk” doing it.
It was originally written to be a Kirk solo, but Cliff modified it for bass. so every member had a solo
@@ryangoodrow8829 From what I know, while intended for Kirk, the solo was done by Cliff because Kirk was gone and they needed to finish recording, not because Cliff necessarily wanted the solo.
I'm glad he got it though.

Great job 👍 of all the songs off of MOP, Orion could actually be on TBA as is. The groove and tempo is a foreshadowing of what 90s Metallica did best.
There's something about those Black Album guitar tones that just tears faces. It's like they captured the scoop of MOP and the in your face quality of RTL all in one fell swoop. Epic track as always.

It all does make sense, outside of MFOM (My Friend of Misery) there's no bass solo, so the fact that there's only one and the rest is guitar solos makes total sense. I know the James hetfiled screams are also kinda weird, but at the same time MFOM was intended as an instrumental until they decided not to. Overall very accurate! Only takeaway is in the interlude part when they played a part of Orion live, Jason usually plays an F#, C#, F# octave, A, C# as opposed to Cliff's F#, C#, F# octave, A, E. It's a small thing, but this is still really good!
this isnt live though, this is the studio version. jason actually played it wrong live, the part he played live was the part he was supposed to play when the guitars went over the bass after the interlude

I've been listening to orion and playing it on bass and guitar and I have to say you did amazing in recreating it in the black album style. The tone is immaculate and the solo interpretations are killer as always.

Look folks , this cover of Orion doesn't sound as good taking the bass solo out of the second Verse / Chorus of this song .Those are the major nuances that make this song unique / legendary , instead of ordinary like this vanilla cover of this song .
I mean, it was kind of done here Black Album style to the best of ability as they never played it full at the time. With the little snippets and all that.

Sounds great however I was really thrown out of the groove by that yay yayuh and I could barely hear that 1st guitar solo? Everything else is killer as usual.
Sounds like metallica, but not sure if Bob Rock allows them to keep it so long. They were doing black album more poppy, and the feature of repeating one riff circle two or three times is normal to metal fans, but not to all listeners. But anyway, you got the atmosphere of metallica(the album), keep it up!
Can you please turn the Intro from Blackened into a song? (a longer version with drums and all), it'll sound fantastic in my opinion!
