Smart rings is something that the industry has wanted to develop for nearly a decade if not more. The issue is that rings come in way too many sizes - there is no one size fits most. I have had Gen 2 for a year and just got the Gen 3. Overall it works great. Seems like there is some issues when updates or new products come out though but it typically gets fixed within the week. Battery life is good. I wear it in place of a wedding ring. Best feature is the heart rate monitor and body temperature tracking. When either seem to be on the rise u can immediately change diet, workout habits, and sleep schedule to prevent any minor illnesses from taking hold. I have not had a cold or flu since buying this.
As a sleep researcher, 1: this product is really good for a whole lot of things, but 2: it can't really tell sleep stages apart so well (it guesses more than anything) and 3: the algorithms overestimate sleep (if you watch a movie it might think you entered sleep) Don't get me wrong, it is a great tool, it gives people a focus on sleep and people REALLY don't put enough focus on sleep! And, it really can give you a great idea of your sleep onset latency, sleep quality, wake after sleep onset, etc. But just like fitbits, apple watches, etc, it can't really tell sleep stages apart (unless it is around your head like an EEG or a polysomnograph, you can't really know the stage of a person with great accuracy). But then again, how important is it really for regular people to know exactly how much time they spent in REM, N2, N3, etc?
I just received my upgraded Gen 3 ring. I've been using the Gen 2 since December 2018 and I love it. It's so comfortable that I wear it all day and night and only give it a charge when I'm at the sink in the morning shaving, etc. The best point is that based on the data, I've changed my eating time and bed time which has optimized my sleep quality. As well as a sleep tracker the fitness tracking side interested me. However it wouldn’t work for boxing unfortunately. With the Whoop you can wear the device on the arm or wrist making it more versatile.
a ring sleep tracker is great. my GF hates when i sleep with my S4 watch. so swapping that into a ring would be worth it. i would 100% take this over a clock. but subscriptions is bad way to go foward for this product.
I had the old version and upgraded, brilliant device.tried so many bands and watches and this just nails it. My wife has my old ring now. Would ot be without it. Spotted my covid 2 days before the test with elevated temp and breathing rate. Tried Galaxy watch 4 , fitbit and others. The galaxy watch was decent the battery life just was not acceptable to me.
This is a perfect gift item. Is there any built Karat gold? This ring could be an excellent replacement for an engagement ring. I'm very optimistic about this new gadget. I'm wondering how to clean and maintain it with the tiny chips on it?
can you really tell if someone is in REM sleep without an eeg? my understanding is that you need to monitor the brain waves to figure something like that out
The Oura ring is the most accurate of the non-eeg devices out there, but it's still just guessing based on movement and other bio data. They claim 80% match of their sleep stage data to eeg-based sleep stage data when tested.
This may sound crazy but hear me out: Oura should provide the option of wearing more than one ring to a subset of users. This will help them incorporate multi-lead ECG at a minimum. Maybe a few other sensors that may not fit on one.
I like how he has an iPhone when explaining the ring but when he is actually talking about the stats of his own he has the phone he has been using is a pixel 6 pro. Nice
I'm honestly puzzled by this whole "sleep tracking" thing. Don't people KNOW if they've slept enough? I know I do...and I know if I slept well, or if I need more sleep...why would you need a $300 gadget to tell you what you likely already know as soon as you wake up? Not bashing the product, just genuinely confused as to what need this fulfills.
If you have no issue with your sleep, you don't need it. I have insomnia and need to track my Deep & REM sleep, if I'm moving during the night, my daily cardio, etc. Enough activity during the day, Weekly trends on all metrics, etc. Worth every penny for me.
@@MarryChicone I'm curious now...and NOT trying to argue or anything...but HOW does this device help with insomnia? What I mean is, don't you know if you slept well? If you tossed and turned, woke up several times...don't you already know that? I'm being serious, not sarcastic or negative, I genuinely want to know, because my wife does suffer a bit from insomnia, and so...I'm curious. So...what does this ring - or any similar device - tell you, that you didn't know yourself? HOW does it help, exactly?
This device's implementation of body tracking under cuts the underlying data's value. This type of data can very easily tell you about onsets of illness, sickness, and health problems. With a bit of work on the wearers part, tagging events and situations, kind of like a live journal, can take it a step further. Whether the data is annotated after the fact in charts or in real-time on a watch or something, tagging events allows you to identify patterns in your behaviour that result in health and sleep problems. I was able to identify the exact cut off time for caffeine to not impact my sleep, thus leading to less caffeine use, and I could see that in a chart to see exactly how. I could see its impact on my resting heart rate. With other gadgets, I could tell its impact on my O2 levels, and with more diligent note taking, what food impacts my health. Best of all, I don' t need a doctor to tell me how to read a chart. With a bit of careful consideration and mindful eating, drinking, exercise, I know exactly how to stay healthy longer without having to go to the doctor. In Canada, this isn't as big an impact, apart from having control over my own health. In other parts of the world, doctors are costly, and having a tool to avoid visiting them, is a god send. UNFORTUNETLY, despite the claims of this ring, many of these benefits are either impossible with just this ring alone, or aren't accessible or easily understood. The worst issue is the added effort on the person to actually journal what they are doing and track their food. Something I assume, if they had the want or desire to, would be doing anyways. However, for people like me, those who want more control over their own body, this kind of data is really helpful and I am looking forward to seeing where this industry goes. I look forward to the day I can use smart glasses to automatically tag what I eat. I look forward to personalized health care, automated healthcare, and democratized health care.
I got one of these from the Air Force. It seems great in theory but actually sucks. It’s impossible to workout (gets in the way of gripping barbells and weights properly) with on making one of the biggest reasons for getting it pointless. The fit of the ring is also extremely bad And would fall off while working or while sleeping. Everyone that got one ended up returning them because it’s just impractical in reality.
You probably didn't get the right size. Some people need half sizes like me. My ring finger is an 8.5 US size and most rings don't fit me all that well. 8 is too small and constricting and 9 is too big and if I'm not careful will fall off. Unfortunately unless a jeweler has the ability to modify one of these(given all the electronics probably not)there probably isn't a way to adjust them for everyone. Only thing is if the company makes half sizes.
@@Gerrylane112 The company on their homepage doesn’t recommend wearing this ring while lifting weights. It’s better for some to stick with a smartwatch for fitness and sleep tracking.
Can I afford it? Lol absolutely not. But to know something like this exists is brilliant. This also is an excellent companion for those who prefer analogue/mechanical watches over smart watches but want the fitness/sleep tracking. Maybe I could afford this one day and I would absolutely pick this over any smart watches despite it having subscription service which I know sucks but if I could buy this, I might as well be able to afford the subscription too.
It has a sensor for blood oxygen saturation, but it won’t be supported by the software until 2022. They’re working on their algorithms to make it accurate.
I’ve used the Gen2 and now Gen3 ring, and as someone with parasomnia and nightmare disorder, this ring is very good at tracking my sleep and it shows the times at night when I’m having nightmares.
It's dawned on me that Lew has kids, but he doesn't have a wedding ring. Either running the solo dad life or they just don't wear marriage rings. I'm only 4 minutes in so I might have to bite my tongue
It's not really. It varies from one person to another, but in general, the more active the person is, the lower their BPM is. for example, Professional Athletes can have a resting BPM of < 40
A $299 USD product with a $6.99 USD monthly subscription fee… No thank you 🤮 But if their wasn’t a subscription fee, I would buy one. Edit: I would buy an Oura Ring over an Watch if their wasn’t a subscription fee.
The only problem that I see with this… is when you are aware you are not sleeping well… it will make you more consciousness that you are not sleeping well … it will remind you you are not well rested which will lead you to get more worried … causing you more stress if you are on a very high stress situation
Great device, I attended this startup 3 years ago when OURA just planned to reach the US market. There was also luxury devices with diamonds. Anyway, now it is much cheaper and has more technologies under the trunk.
The real question is. About about the gym rats. My hands are so rough and the part that the ring fits on my ring finger is thick... will it even work on me?
It's actually best if it's a snug fit. People with large knuckles in relation to the rest of their finger may have issues with accuracy. That said, beware that lifting weights with the ring on will probably scratch it up. I'm ok with a scratched up ring, but know that that will probably happen. Also workout HR data is scheduled to release in 2022, not yet available. Also note that it is a subscription business model.
As an engineer : Dayum! As a consumer: its too steep for me. I was expecting to be 200-250$, but its 300+ euro. Its probably worth the money for someone that needs all of that info and can use it.
My Smartwatch was about as expensive as this ring and has about the same features and battery life. But at least I don't have a subscription fee on top of that

I think subscription is the only way forward for this product. They need more money to keep the tech train moving, with new updates and security.
" The lord of the unboxing "
I had the old version and upgraded, brilliant device.tried so many bands and watches and this just nails it. My wife has my old ring now. Would ot be without it. Spotted my covid 2 days before the test with elevated temp and breathing rate. Tried Galaxy watch 4 , fitbit and others. The galaxy watch was decent the battery life just was not acceptable to me.
Can’t help but thinking the gold ring looks like the Flash’s ring
I don't even wear watches because it is uncomfortable. This looks interesting, indeed!
This is a perfect gift item. Is there any built Karat gold? This ring could be an excellent replacement for an engagement ring. I'm very optimistic about this new gadget. I'm wondering how to clean and maintain it with the tiny chips on it?

really nice piece of tech, hope it has water resistance
it has, you can dive with it.
Oura, Suomi Finland 👍
can you really tell if someone is in REM sleep without an eeg? my understanding is that you need to monitor the brain waves to figure something like that out
Good question…I’m thinking your right
The Oura ring is the most accurate of the non-eeg devices out there, but it's still just guessing based on movement and other bio data. They claim 80% match of their sleep stage data to eeg-based sleep stage data when tested.
@@RussianShadowDragon translation, they guess
As a person that likes some classical music, I was distracted because Nocturne is one of my favorite songs
This may sound crazy but hear me out: Oura should provide the option of wearing more than one ring to a subset of users. This will help them incorporate multi-lead ECG at a minimum. Maybe a few other sensors that may not fit on one.

It would be cool if this ring send notification to family members when your having a seizure
Lew doesn't wear his wedding ring, why would he use the Oura ring
Because technology is more important /s
This video has some deep meaning that his common audience cannot understand yet 😘🔥 nice video
I was interested until I read that they have a monthly subscription plan to use it.
I’m sure you can save $6 monthly. That’s $1,5 weekly.
I like how he has an iPhone when explaining the ring but when he is actually talking about the stats of his own he has the phone he has been using is a pixel 6 pro. Nice
Problem with a ring is if wearing it whilst doing weights, there is a good chance it will get damaged

IT'S MINE...IT'S MY TREASURE!
A ring to enslave them, to find them all, to drift into darkness and to bind them forever
I wish we were best friends bro. Absolutely love what you do in the space.
It’s a gitchy gadget that gear heads want to own, that’s about it.
@@alphagt62 Sounds about right. 👍
I was legit completely hyped to order one, and then i saw the price...
@@kingzach74 doesn’t fix the issue of not being able to grip barbells and dumbbells properly, this is only good if you do cardio only
@@Gerrylane112 The company on their homepage doesn’t recommend wearing this ring while lifting weights. It’s better for some to stick with a smartwatch for fitness and sleep tracking.
Ive seen ben greenfield lift weights do pull ups etc all while wearing the ring. And he’s a fitness dude thats done a lot of different workouts.
@@felixg.7752 good for him. But this is a comment and feeling most people I worked with had about the ring.

It would be impressive if it could do oxygen saturation. Every other sleep tracker on the market can do what this does.

46 BPS isn’t that insanely low?
46 BPS is insanely high, think you meant to say BPM in which case, no, during sleep it's not.
It's not really. It varies from one person to another, but in general, the more active the person is, the lower their BPM is. for example, Professional Athletes can have a resting BPM of < 40
Working on an update so you can track strokes per min INC bois!
A $299 USD product with a $6.99 USD monthly subscription fee… No thank you 🤮
But if their wasn’t a subscription fee, I would buy one.
You won ^^^

Great device, I attended this startup 3 years ago when OURA just planned to reach the US market. There was also luxury devices with diamonds. Anyway, now it is much cheaper and has more technologies under the trunk.
that ring catch made me like the video right away
The real question is. About about the gym rats. My hands are so rough and the part that the ring fits on my ring finger is thick... will it even work on me?
It's actually best if it's a snug fit. People with large knuckles in relation to the rest of their finger may have issues with accuracy.
That said, beware that lifting weights with the ring on will probably scratch it up. I'm ok with a scratched up ring, but know that that will probably happen.
Also workout HR data is scheduled to release in 2022, not yet available.
Also note that it is a subscription business model.
Black looks amazing
As an engineer : Dayum!
As a consumer: its too steep for me. I was expecting to be 200-250$, but its 300+ euro. Its probably worth the money for someone that needs all of that info and can use it.
My Smartwatch was about as expensive as this ring and has about the same features and battery life. But at least I don't have a subscription fee on top of that
