Forging a Rounding Hammer- 3lbs

I made this hammer for week three of Alec Steele's #4weeksofforging challenge. I think it turned out great. I had a friend come and strike for me (Thanks Elliot) and I made a hickory handle for it. I think this hammer turned out great, especially considering this is my first time forging a "real" hammer.(by "real" I mean not a war hammer)

Liam, sir, what an amazing amount of work went into this. Ive done 2 this way in class with Rob Garman, Grandads forge...being both lead and striker. Not an easy task. Yours turned out awesome Sir.
Also nice handle work. I too find the "coffin" cross section more desirable than the typical oval. Personally nit a fan of the blackened handle, strictly for asthetics, however yours is more appealing with the heavy brushing.
Job well done IMHO. Congratulations on your new hammer.

Get you a cheap toaster oven for the tempering process works great

@@robertwcarneal1126 I use a real oven for most tempering. It just is much more accurate. I just wanted to try this method 🤘🏼

Hammer turned out great.. looks like you might need a little heavier hammer eye punch..lol.. you were hurting that one..

Yeah it get kinda messed up but I think that was mainly caused by my terrible striking. 😂 I just chucked it in the forge and straightened it out. No problem
