Another excellent report on the ever changing world of the volcano. Thank you Valur and Art, these reports are becoming the highlight of my viewing week. One thing that I particularly enjoy is the opportunity to watch mainly drone footage without any unnecessary and distracting commentary - the mountain speaks for itself a lot of the time.

In the USA our news casts are scripted and “perfect”. This guy, whose name I can’t pronounce, is such a breath of fresh air. He informs without sensationalizing. He is natural, not made up with layers of makeup. When he doesn’t know, he says that. He has a Border Collie that sometimes comes on the show when it’s safe. I love this guy’s work. Wish we could have him and his camera person here in the USA.

I'm afraid that I'm the one who called the first eruption " Bob". After four days without being given a name, It became an off-the-wall short-hand name for our chatroom to use. Since then, as more vents spring up, other members keep adding three-letter names with Nordic backgrounds. Btw: RVK has become recommended viewing there. Both yourself and Polly are quick to be mentioned!

Wow thanks for going back and showing us the changes. It looks a lot different than the live cams, you can’t really tell the size or how far the lava has gone. It’s really amazing. I was watching the live cam when the new vents formed and that was pretty exciting! The cams are all black right now so there’s some kind of problem with the feed. Ones working but it’s all gas or fog so you can’t really see anything but I’m sure that will be fixed soon. Thanks for hiking up there to show everyone. I could have watched the new vent spewing lava in the lava stream for hours!

I am glad that you are able to invest in video footage and that you are doing so. Clearly, the personnel time (and talent) is a big part of that investment. I am also sitting here thinking about the journal keeping that would support this kind of work, day, time, location, events, and so on. I know there are quite a number of people taking photos and video footage. It is quite a record. It is nice to have the passive cameras that sit and livestream the same angle and focus; but it is astounding to have the impromptu footage that captures unique moments, sometimes quite close up. Each time you show up on location, your exclamations of amazement must be quite a treat. 😃

And let me add, as I watch this again and again. I do not think there are words sufficient to describe the first 80 seconds of this video. That we are in the year 2021 with a field of possibility that includes high tech, global sharing, and supportive gestures asking "yes, push the envelope for us please" ... and the video fidelity that is pouring "through the wire" into my computer and onto its screen are blowing my mind. My first exposure to the proto Internet was back in the early 1970's on CRT's with a mainframe connection of 300 bits per second. Thank you for putting these up at 1440p.
And the sound is shaking my desk. If I knew how to do it, I would hook the sound into my surround sound room sound system and shake the whole darn house with the sub-woofer ~ alas, though the speakers can handle it, they are 1980's tech. lol 😃

I must concur with the fantastic video comments. It further shows the mystical sense of Iceland to us non citizens.
As a person of Danish ancestry I still envision Iceland as a place one might turn a corner and still happen upon a Viking onboard an Icelandic horse. It still has the landscape appearance of an ancient area of the world. And I love it. I’ve not been there. But I feel a sense of it calling me to experience it’s wonders.Tak.

Awesome drone footage, i though you sacrificed the drone by lowering it into the vent :-o

We almost did. But it survived its mission this time.

@@TheReykjavikGrapevine That's good. It seems that a lot of drones (and some cams, too) have been sacrificed to the volcano.

The subject matter is exciting, but your reporting style and presentation skills knock spots off the subject matter. And the video footage and style are unequalled, too. You're making my day here in UK. Thanks.

Truly awesome - wonderful coverage.. How "thoughtful" of the volcano to wait these hundreds of years til drone and TH-cam technology arrived so the world can enjoy - in real time.
