Loved the side panel mod. Can’t wait to see the final version. I modified my Interceptor (obv essential mods only). Mod haters are mostly jealous types. 99% of owners will change something. The stock bike is ripe for improvements. I’m now onto a 790. 👍🏼
I am a RE owner and I loved the Ep1 of this series. Don't worry about the comments, RE bikes are built like a blank canvas and they are made to be modified. Keep up the good work.
The interceptor was built to be a basis for modification, I bought mine to see what all the hype was about and after a year and 3000 miles covered I sold it. It was my second bike and I absolutely loved my time with it. Might buy a Conti GT in future. Good bikes.
I simply loved that video-bravo! Especially the beginning where you politely told the naysayers to piss-off. Exactly said ; its your bike. Keep up the good work!! Your friend from the other side of the pond. Illinois, USA
Brother, thank you so much for your talk about the comment section! Some people should just be quiet when it comes to OTHER PEOPLES PROPERTY! It's your bike, YOUR rules! 🤘😝🤘
Great job! I love mods that look good and are functional. I don't understand how people can be upset by this, it's not like you're modding a historical bike
I like your philosophy on this bike. I have its twin brother, had it for two years now, all I did was install a Two into one decatted exhaust (TEC), aftermarket air filter and custom snorkel, and I did one other controversial thing. I dropped the countershaft sprocket one tooth. Now the bike is an ideal two lane road tracker. 0-100(where all the fun is on a bike like this) screamer. top speed is virtually the same, but I rarely take it over 140 anyway. It's kind of like n Austin Healy sprite, sounds fast (but isn't), fun to shift, ride it wide open without going too fast. A real hoot on secondary roads,
Really enjoyed that. What frustrates me with these critics is they have completely missed the whole point of Triumph (Bonneville range) and Enfields (650 range) is that they have decided to make a basic package to present to the buying public in various different engine and trim levels/styles. So if you just want a basic bike at that price 'We can provide that for you sir/madam' however knowing what some sections of the motorcycle community are like they can provide a bike that is a starting point for you to upgrade /modify at your leisure. That's the whole point of the range of bikes! It's for you to fiddle with and it's OK if you don't want to. Really looking forward to this build series 👍
S&S exhaust pipes on mine . Will change air filter soon . Not sure what after that . I just like the sound of the exhaust . I'll be adding a pannier frame and rack . Along with tires that work better on gravel unpacked roads .
Excellent job, I love the mod and hadn't thought of that myself. I will definitely try it when I come to my own custom build one day. Thanks for sharing 👍
I have done similar to my 2020 Glitter & Dust Interceptor , started with DNA filter then a Booster Plug and S&S slip on pipes (a bit more BARK ) as for the side covers I bought the aluminium ones from Baak (A French Co) and polished them up to a nice finish , like you I backed them with a fine mesh which I painted red to match the tank badge , I'll be interested to see how much further you go . Ride safe and keep the rubber side down !
WOW Man! That sidecover was brutally destroyed. I can just imagine some guy in the USA losing his mind over that. Many years ago I put chopper handlebars on my Honda MT50, and changed the front fork for a much longer one. The bike looked rediculous it was mine.
These are such great bikes to modify to your own style. My Interceptor has flat bars with risers, 2 in to 1 exhaust (massive weight saving), DnA filter, single touring seat and Conti GT rear sets (I recommend that one)
I believe that any 'mod' that lets the engine breath easier is a good idea.( I swopped out the original air filter on my Street triple, Plus a new slip on exhaust)... this let the lungs of the engine work more efficiently and gave a smoother throttle response. Items like bars, levers, seat etc! are the comfort zone. Tyres and better quality suspension improve the ride not to mention the handling.... You're right, its your Bike, your money so personalising it to your requirements is your decision... personally I would turn it into a 60s Cafe Racer, Or would if I still had a 1960s body to contort myself into the proper riding position...Its a personal choice so go for it!! Will follow with interest future videos on the project..
Tony, a great video - thanks. Can I ask you…. When you said nowhere near the chain - would you be kind enough to throw a ruler in there and a have a quick measure please? Not worried about the chain guard, but would love to know the distance from the tyre to the chain. Thanks very much.
Installed a gursewak exhaust and bmc filter.... I can vouch for the improvement in acceration and general improvement in the "feel of the ride quality"....
This bikes are begging to be modded once you take them from the dealership! Great job with the side panels. I went with new ones on leather, but I might just go back to the stock ones and do something similar. I have fitted the DNA filter and new pipes on mine aswell. The brakes and suspension on this bike really benefits from the weight loss. Check Hitchcock's offerings on parts to get the best of this bike, loving this series!
Niccccce! Loving the panels you made. I've got multiple plans for my 650. So far I've changed exhausts from Tec and recently the standard rear light cluster for the Baak set, but for just putting the new light closer on it has more than doubled my insurance!! So I might need to spread these mods out. Keep them coming 🙌
Cheers. Ive got a number plate holder coming which has mounts for indicators. I'm probably going to run with 3 way rears, so there'll be no central rear light.
Nice, looks good. I like them. I installed Moton Custom slotted side panels on my 2017 Triumph Bonneville Street Cup. They look more aggressive, and it gets rid of the Steet Cup logo for a more custom look.
these bikes are some of the best new bikes to modify. they’re nowhere near perfect from the factory, even though they look great. they’re a perfect canvas to do what you want with your bike.
Good to see you at Gold Top last weekend Tony, looking forward to seeing more videos in the series and some suggestions for alternative video stories we talked about. Regards Rob
sorry you had the feedback about modding your bike. To me that's part of personalising the bike and is also part of the fun. I love my mods on my Interceptor. I have different mirrors, bash plate, exhaust, air filter, rear lights etc etc..... I'm looking forward to seeing what do you. keep making the vids.🏴👍
Nice work Tony! You’ve got a pro finish on that panel. I went for the K&N filter definite air flow improvement. I’ve even convinced myself there’s a performance gain!
Great video Tony! If you really feel artsy a thin gold pinstripe around the area where the holes are would make it look like a paint shop did it. Just a thought.
Love the vid, great job, I'm the same as you I'm just looking to make my 650 run as efficient at possible, not really increase HP. Have you considered Iridium spark plugs, bigger spark insures a better burn of the full air in the combustion chamber. I changed my plugs to Iridium, could be in my head but the bike does seem to run smoother.
Well done Tony! I did the DNA filter and bellmouth to the Bonnie, I like the holes on the side panels, I will think about doing them! By the way, it was good to see you last weekend!
New bike, cheap asking to be modded.I done a heap of them.I Often thought about drilling the side panels cause they better than any aftermarket one's & some of their holes & mesh are just glue over top of stock don't suck air or face the wrong way.
Yep, its easy to throw loads of money at the bike in parts, but theres a few simple mods you can make without needeing too. At the moment, mine are one off side panels!
Will you be adding a deflector in front of the side panel, so you won't be sucking in air heated by the cylinder while riding. I have seen that suggested on other vids dealing with cutting breathing intakes in the side panels.
Gives it a nice premium look. And also fuck what anyone else said about modifications. Iv bought my interceptor not even picked it up yet and my garage I have big bore pipes and cans, sumpgard, yss rear shocks, dna filter kit and removing tail light set up soon as I get it home 3miles from the dealership hopefully Thursday
Thats a good idea with the side panel, but I think I'll go with slots from the front half of the panel where the filter is like I've seen on some bonneville's. Sure that will be harder but I think it would look good. I already have the filter and booster plug and a whole lot of mods 😎Cheers
One of the things I love about these 650's is you can make them your own lots of after market parts to make it cosmetically your own and lots of performance parts if you want a wheelie machine, Purists are like a blank canvas, pretty boring people. Go for it.
I’m into keeping things as original as possible but I love seeing custom bikes, some of the things people do are amazing. Looking forward to seeing what you do with yours.
The side panel looks good! I will be interested to se which tyres you choose. I am planning to use Dunlop K180 120/90-18 front + 130/80-18 rear, when the time comes to replace the Pirellis and they will fit on the original rims.
Super video, love all your films Tony, they’re great reference and brilliant to follow. I’m a custom Triumph rider but I was over in Lyon and rode the BAAK interceptors from their workshop over a few days. Great fun bike on and off the road and they’ve done a great job with their bolt on kits too. Have you seen them? Look forward to the next episode… loving the new side panels….
Great result Tony! Looks very professional & can you go back & also apply satin black to the lower section? You could also do it on both sides identical 🤔✅ Too late to get an Aussie made Verex exhaust from Tasmania?
Yep, I did of course replicate it on both sides. (as you can see on the thumbnail) The gloss lower actually blends nicely with the frame, so i'm happy with the result. The Verex looks great, but I'm going with something smaller ;)
Great installation. Don't you need to oil it with hydrophobic oil though? That's what the instructions with my one said. It would be interesting to see how much more it weighs than the original. As for no expected performance increases and being entirely hidden, i'd say that was 85 quid (plus the oil?) well spent! At least you fitted your one. I wait with interest to see what rim and tyre you fit and how it all works with the swing arm, frame and chain. Good luck, old bean!
@@mancavemoto Brilliant, that will be interesting. I was lazy and got my CB1100 wheels done in Italy by Bartfactory but live in Ireland so there were no duties re Brexit. Outex must be the most common for doing it yourself. Good luck. While you are at it you might as well try out some cheapo tyre pressure monitors.
Nice neat job. Looks good aesthetically. Glad it’s not for performance reasons as it would make more sense to buy a Fireblade! An interceptor is a joy and not really for tuning, as opposed to refinement.
‘Save your effort, I don’t care’ - love it 😂

why did you get rid of the interceptor?

Cool look. Air does flow all around the side cover. Good way to suck in water and dust.
Of course, as does water and dust, this mod isn’t going to make that much difference to that, it’s more about aesthetics.

As an interceptor fan, this video was a little hard to digest, but I don't hate it. Nice build.
Really looking forward to see this series. RE designed the 650s expressly for customising, despite comments from a bunch of ignorant Muppets.

Get the side panels carbon dipped and lacquered it or wrap it?
Wrap wuld be cheaper and easier I guess
Don’t mind the guys talking about modding, Royal Enfields are asking to be modded in my opinion, the retro look and lack of plastic parts adds to this
I'm not worried about that, it just makes me laugh how they get so worked up about it!
