    These were built at the old Studebaker Army truck plant in Mishawaka Indiana. About 30 mile east of South Bend Indiana. I probably delivered the parts into the factory for this truck. I'm a retired trucker and had a regular parts run into the plant about that time . Good times. I lived in South Bend then.

      @@KJOff-Road CLOSE!!! We built/ still build all HMMWVs in the old Rockwell (bumper) Plant in Mishawaka, Indiana, U.S.A. Mishawaka and South Bend have a common city boundary ...meaning if you did not see the signs one would not know where South Bend ended and Mishawaka began and vice versa.

    On the 1038 your hub maintenance is going to be key. Make sure you keep plenty of hub seals and a couple of spare spindles on hand, as well as hub nuts and locking washers. These are consumable items to be replaced with each annual service.
    You will find that even with minimal distance driven the hub bearing preload needs to be adjusted very often. Remember the hub nut torque is 45 lb/ft, rotate the spindle a few times, then torque to 27 lb/ft and lock the nut with the locking tab.
    Also, the halfshaft flange and end bolts are subject to fatigue and snapping from normal usage. Our annual service kits came with all new bolts and we replaced them even if they looked new.
    Good looking truck though. You should enjoy it.
    If you have any questions shoot me an email. I did contract motor pool repair and service on these up until about two and a half years ago. I know them inside and out.

      Thats not a 1038. The 1038s are the winch hmmwv . But besides that they're all the same depending on the year winch tells you about the transmission, engine size , or turbo applications.

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alkey7266 This is indeed a winch truck. But the winch itself has just been removed. so yeah, now its pretty much an M998. Only with a different front plate.

    What was the average speed limit on the roads up north during the trip? Can you do a conversion to a four door slant or wagon back vehical before you register it?
    All in all you got a good deal! I will have to call your importer and get some more info if I already have the truck in the states. Many times we buy them as pickups and convert them out to 4 doors, with slant back, or with a custom wagon back as well as changing out the transmission to the 4 speed overdrive box, better on fuel economy. In my state you go to the inspection facility and obtain the states list of must be on a road worthy truck, do the changes and set up an appointment with the inspection office, when you go in have that manual of what is required of a road worthy truck and check off any items missed if all are done and they fail the truck sit down and discuss what they found wrong and compare it to their requirements. Why does the EU have to be pickey? Just wait until it reaches Greece if I bring one in. This has to be the worst country to import these items.

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since we were driving a truck, the maximum speed limit, all the way, was 80 km/h. So we just tried to stick to that, best we could.
      I am allowed to set it up as a 4 door, slant back, wagon, or whatever i want. but i am not allowed to put rear seats in it. if i want that, i will have to give it a new registration, and pay more in registration tax. (This is only in Denmark)
      The process is also much the same here. having to modify it, to meet local law. then get it inspected.
      And even though they want everything to be the same, in all of the EU, every country still has their own laws, that you have to adapt the car to. it's really quite dumb.
      Thanks for watching!

    couple more questions..like the tan rim color..are yhou going to paint all rims same color? and saw a sign in the wheel well up front that stated..DRAIN DAILY...what is that referring too? and as for the price? when one is buying something near and dear to the heart price is no object...and this will appreciate as the years go by..not like you will sell it..so happy for you guys..til next time..

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, the whole truck will have to be painted, at some point. as it is quite faded, and has clearly spent a lot of time in the sun. So when the time comes, i will be painting the wheels too.
      and the "Drain Daily" is referring to a little valve up there, thats connected to the "Water separator" in the fuel filter. that you would drain regularly. (Although, "Daily" seems a bit exessive.)

    What about the H1 Hummers that had the nice luxury interiors in the bright loud colors in your country would that be allowed without it going through special paperwork and that's going to ask you what is firearm ownership like in your country can you guys own the AR-15 or an AK-47 semi-automatic only I'm talking about or suppressors or pistols? I just don't know about things like that so that's why I'm asking

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, the civillian H1 would be just as much trouble. it's all because they were never officially sold here.
      the H2 and the H3 were officially imported by dealers. så those are not a problem.
      And about the gun ownership. That is very restricted here. Very basicly- you can only get them for a few things (Hunting and competition shooting) The competition shooting is usually only 22lr, bolt actions.
      And you cannot have any semi-auto's for hunting (Unless they have been restricted to 2 round capacity, and have no detachable mag) how ever, supressors for hunting rifles, are not really restricted at all.
      And as for pistols, it is possible. but only for sports shooting at special ranges. and they take years to get.
