Thrilled to know you have been visiting my paradise island and enjoying the island's best scenic railway. It made me to miss my motherland. And, Thank you so much for promoting my little country! I highly appreciate how you have done your research on cities and local history etc. I hope that you had a memorable holiday in Sri Lanka! Love from a Sri Lankan!
Another amazing video mate :) It's so so fascinating how you experienced one of your best as well as one of your worst train journeys on the exact same route!
In 2022, falling from train or collision of trains with people on the tracks accounted for the majority of the railway accident deaths in India, at 72.6 percent. There were nearly 21 thousand railway accident fatalities across the country that year.
Small correction in the first train the 2nd and 3rd class are not reserved seating hence the 2nd class costs only Rs.500 and 3 rd class only Rs. 250 from colombo to kandy. 1200 and 900 are prices for reserved seating from colombo to kandy. As usual a great video and love from Sri Lanka.
121 km in 3 hr 25 min is the kind of Intercity Express service DB would be pleased with 😀 That train does look decidedly worn for its 10 or so years in service, I must say. Riding looks, well, up to Talgo standards 😁
We made a mistake not taking the train, we went by the quicker cab option from Colombo to Kandy as we wanted to visit Pinnawala. We 🤢 a lot, should have been smarter and taken the train.
yes sri lankan hill countryside is hard to go from cars , even tho all roads are super quality , they have so much curves circles around the mountains , hard to drive and If you go for the first time there is a high possibility to 🤢, train is the most suitable for travel in hill sides
@@markellis6413 I'd say so. More comfortable trains and we had markedly better weather! I'd love to go back and do Darjeeling on a clear snowy day tho! ☃️
Glad to know that Colombo is worth a visit. Unlike most capitals/biggest cities of a country, it is not the first thing that is talked about when someone mentions Sri Lanka
India and SL are very different while being quite similar. India is no longer a European or American backpackers paradise, if you want to travel without reservations, maybe SL is the place for you. By the way lots of Indians visit SL every year for temple tourism in addition to nature tourism.
@@nimishgoray8808 As a Sri Lankan I can't say anything about food as both cuisines are good in their own way, but Sri Lanka is definitely cheaper compared to India.
Its almost identical to the Nilgiri Mountain railway in southern India... In fact I think the one in India goes higher and has excellent train window views
As Indonesian, I am suprised Sri Lankan train look much better than Indian trains even their cities I mean there are no overcrowded people on the train nor cities and the station look surprisingly clean well not really that clean but it's much better than Indian and the sky over Sri Lanka is much cleaner and there are no pollution in my point of view (as a southeast asian) Sri Lanka towns looks like average southeast Asian towns
That a very generalized and objective view, India too have "clear sky", maybe research a bit more about the regions as nothing is consistent or homogenous in India. Everything seasons, environment etc changes region to region. In fact Sri lanka is exactly same as Southern India culture and climate wise which is Tropical.
And Sri Lankan train look better than Indian? , first none of them are any better in terms of experience. On the contrary Indian Railway is far more modernised and Indegionous than Sri Lankan railway. Just the sideways movements in the video. Flagship Indian trains are very much better.
SL has Low population and hence a good possibility of attention to cleanliness. But the rolling stock is old and tracks are not well maintained. In fact India tried selling a new DMU train set to SL railway but they were deemed to be too heavy for the tracks. Yes, SL is a shade greener than many parts of India where the permanent way goes, but India has way more greenery in so many more places.
There's obviously a much smaller population, and a different, more relaxed vibe all over SL. India too has amazing scenery but you have to head north or south!
I hate that 2nd and 3rd class passengers in India, Sri Lanka and other hot ountries in Asia and Africa are relegated to hot un-air conditioned coaches. The class distinction makes me wannna holler. Amtrak may be a Third World operation, but at least ALL cars have central air conditioning and heating.
@@NonstopEurotrip Tourist taking pictures probably enjoy open train windows a lot more than natives who’ve seen the scenery many times before and just might want a cool place - like first class - to chill.
@@NonstopEurotripAs someone who lives in the tropics, I disagree about being used to the heat. Because outside of rainy and breezy days, we perpetually complain of being hot 😂

Thank you so much for sharing this with us, this was one of the most gorgeous train videos I've seen!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for doing this video! I’m Sri Lankan and this is my favourite train journey of all time! Really appreciate you taking the trip ❤
Our pleasure! I love Sri Lanka so much ❤️
Jaw-dropping! Being from the US, I never had a train door view. The best train _window_ view I got was the river and cliffs from NYC to Poughkeepsie!
You should go to Sri Lanka:)

Totally enjoyable and immersive video. For years I have wanted to visit the tea plantations in Sri Lanka but now, sadly, it is too late for me.
It's a shame, it's so magical 🪄
You're so right. Kandy is attractive station that could use a coat of paint.
We did the rail trip too, thanks for sharing. It was something like never experienced ! Scenery was beyond anything to compare.

The rural regions look like India but the cities look so much cleaner. The station architecture in Colombo was also really great.

There are both. As mentioned. Because I did it?
I think the best out the train door view I've had is crossing Goteik Viaduct in Burma.
Really great video!
I hope to try that one day :)

What a great trip. The scenery is breathtaking, and yeah same as some part in my country. With this scenery, who cares about travel time.

Are there also an food vendors in the Odyssey train?
Yes!
could you add voice over to your old videos? If it's not too much to ask?
