There's an afterword to this story: after epitomised path was added, Tectone managed to pull this off AGAIN because he didn't correctly set his desired weapon.
As someone who's never touched the weapon banner ever, If there was only one limited weapon I really want, it's definitely the Staff of Homa.

Got standard weapon once,
And actually getting what I set the path for once.
I suggest Staff of Scarlet Sands, as it is better on many characters. But if you just like the weapon then go for homa.
Well staff of homa's passive on a level 90 character who has 20k hp it will give them 200 extra atk ts amazing for hybrid hp and atk scaling characters
Sword: Mistsplitter, Jade Cutter
Polearm: Homa, Scarlett Sands
Bow: Aqua, Hunters Path
Claymore: Beacon
These are imo the only weapon worth pulling because of their stats and versatility

The reason (I think) they don’t do 1 fate point is because they don’t want you to get both featured weapons in under 160 pulls.
Imagine if there is Homa and Neuvilette weapon.
You set epitomize path to Neuvilette weapon, but you get Homa instead. Then the next time is guaranteed Neuvilette weapon. I assume they think that’s too much value you get under 160 pulls.

Just make it 100% guaranteed with only the single weapon, and every player, even the casuals will start pulling causing bigger revenue XD

[12:00] I think this is the reason why "Mihoyo" changed the weapons banner relatively quickly after this incident. It was too public, and worst of all, it discouraged whales from pulling on the weapons banner. If a whale could spend a lot of money and still come up short then why would other whales spend anymore than a F2P on the banner? Mihoyo needed to let whales know that if they spent, their rewards were guaranteed to come home.

The only reason I ever pulled in a Banner weapon is because it was a win/win situation. I really like Navia's Weapon design and I had her guaranteed already, so I went expecting to lose a huge amount of primos. and "lose" I did, I got 2 Mistsplitters before getting a Veredict. I think they where all at 65-ish pity.
I will probably go again when another banner like that rolls around (like, where a lost will equal a meta weapon).
But, yeah. Don't pull on weapon banners, it's a scam. Unless they change it to a regular 50/50. If HSR can do it, Genshin could do it too. But Genshin could never am I right?

Honestly the best thing about learning about Tectone's Staff of Homeless incident is coming from FGO to Genshin and seeing that. Because FGO had no pity system for half a decade, there have been a number of incidents on this scale or worse. I totally recommend Myst's Oberon series for that lol
im surprised there was no mention of how the first banner for staff of homa was not only an obviously very anticipated weapon banner but it also lasted only 2 weeks, instead of the usual 3, because it was during the patch where they shoe-horned keqing's banner in the middle. so the FOMO was even MORE intense than usual (bearing in mind also that this was in 1.3 so, before we had gotten any kind of rerun in genshin since its launch. believe it or not there were debates at the time about whether characters and weapons would even Get reruns at all) and people were rushing even more to scrounge up whatever primos they could for this one. it was a very strange patch hahaha
personally i wanted wolf's gravestone and got two staff of homas :( and of course they never reran wolf's gravestone on the weapon banner after implementing epitomized path (i still dont have it to this day)
Just to add salt to the wound, I also did 3 10 pulls on the infamous Homa banner (before the news about the pain started spreading. I didn't want Homa. Just wanted more weapons and had a bunch of primos leftover from exploring the crap out of everything). And got wgs, my first 5star weapon. 😅

That incident with Tectone made me not pull for the weapon banner for more than 3 years. I only pulled once, on Navia cause i liked her and had wishes to spare, or else i would've skipped it.
Meanwhile, Star Rail has seperated Lightcone banners, and still 75% win chance at same pity XD
That's why I've never pulled on that banner. The only 5* weapon I have is Wolves Gravestone, ironically enough, and I got it on the standard banner.
I also pulled on this banner as a bp+welkin player because I wanted both weapons for either Zhongli/Beidou and I would've been fine with either of them. I got WGS and even though I wanted it I was still obviously disappointed because Homa is limited and also more universal. I was considering topping up specifically for another pity but what happened to Tectone convinced me not to.
Fast forward to the next day, I claim the last 1 pull from the 5 days mail event they usually do on lantern rite, not knowing what to do with it I ended up dropping it on weapon banner and got Homa back to back.

i have lost 3 banners trying to get Homa and another 3 trying to get Mistsplitter. i have all the Skyward weapons, 3 PJWS, 3wgs, other 5* weaps w/o their 5* owners. still no Homa, still no Mistsplitter
People were mad about it back then because it was obvious once it was explained that it was mostly for whales, as only whales or basically f2p hoarders could guarantee a weapon at the time. It was often described as "only to appease/good for the whales"
I think the reason the chronicled wish fate point is seen as a negative is because due to the way it works (resetting each time just like the weapon banner) it means you NEED to have enough currency each time. Losing the weapon banner still guarantees you a featured weapon next time. Losing on the new banner is a complete loss of the guarantee if you can't go to your next pity
Ironically back then, I got an early staff of Homa and kept pulling because I thought WGS was limited. Also oddly enough staff of Homa is probably the weapon I got the most excess copies of.
Wrong. Weapon banner resets too. Additionally, the new banner looks like it will be double length of other banners, lasting whole patch. Not to mention its the first time you can lose a 50/50 to another Limited 5 star, and avoiding other standard ones like Qiqi.
So basically, like the weapon banner, the new Chronicle wish will only be advised if you are happy to lose your 50 to most of the others featured and/or can guarantee.
You could do a ranking on which characters you could get interested in you (not which ones you are interested in) and how long you could keep them interested e.g. first date, third date, one night stand, wedding day.
Or play matchmaker you have to couple up all the characters could pc and pc or pc and npc e.g. albedo and albedo 2, klee and timmey, until all the pcs have a match

I have about 90 5* weapons, some refined, and still no WGS. At this point I'm like you - I want to see how long it takes to acquire it 'naturally'. It's the only standard weapon not in my collection, and I might just obtain all limited weapons at least once before having got it.

I watched this video an hour or so after it had released way back when. as a day 1 player, and first gacha game player, i didn't know much, but walked away with the lesson: dont pull on weapon banner. Last year i was on vacation in the dominican republic and a weapon banner came around with, i believe, Staff of Homa and Aqua simulacra. I got yelan to c1, then still had 90 pulls left i said " ah what the heck" and emptied on weapon banner. I walked away with 1 aqua and 2 staves of homa. Given i was on vacation at the time in total, vacation included, probably paid as much as Teccy did.
I've never seen those Tectone videos before, but GOD that's brutal!
As a f-2-p/low spender on the game (I've only ever paid for the Welkin Moon, and only started getting that after spending over a year playing the game) I never wished on the weapon banners back then (thank Christ).
I only started pulling on the weapon banner about a year ago because I've got so many characters at this point that I might as well, and it still kinda sucks _even with_ the Epitomized Path. If I want to go for a weapon, I have to plan for it MONTHS in advance and save up HUNDREDS of wishes to make sure I get it, but at least I can guarantee I will get it! I can't even imagine pulling on the weapon banner as a f2p/low spender without Epitomized Path!

What makes this video even funnier for me, is that I made a 10 pull with 0 pity just for fun on the weapon banner back then and got Staff of Homa straight away.

I was there when Teccy was going through this pain lmfao probably the biggest reason why he’s exhausted with the game. It was hilarious to the point of TEARS but I felt so bad. He looked like a little kid who got his balloon popped, while his ice cream fell on the ground, and then someone pushed him on the ground and stole his puppy. He was BROKEN lmao and I felt so bad for him. Now…regarding the new Weapon banner system. WTF WERE THEY THINKING LETTING THE FATE POINTS EXPIRE AFTER THE BANNER ENDED?? Either incorporate the same mechanic for the character banner (lose 50/50 once, win the next, OR OR OR, allow the fate points to transfer over to whatever banner you wish on again. Since everyone gets a 5 star at 80 wishes, 240 on weapon and 160 on character. That shits too much. OR ANOTHER OPTION!! Just like on events with new skins for characters, once we have enough points we just click the outfit and we got it, if we lose the 50/50 2 F*CKING TIMES, then we click the weapon and get it without wishing a single time. Banner still sucks. It’s better, but it still sucks more than it’s better. Okay. I’m done venting lmfaooo
I really want them to add some sort lf system for 4 star characters/items at this point. Maybe a fate system on the standard banner. It might drive money towards the standard banner a bit.
I think the one thing I like about the new banner is that it looks like it'll include limited 5-star weapons as well, and you only need 1 Fate point to guarantee, so it is, in that instance, cheaper than the weapon banner.
Also, I find it crazy how some people have accused Tectone of glorifying whaling, when he himself not only told people to be careful with their spending in that stream, but also has said in other streams that he is in a special circumstance that his viewers are not - one where he has plenty of money to afford it, makes his money back from the content, and can write it off his taxes. Your average gacha player can't do that.
Like seriously, Chronicled Banner has one 1 Max Fate Point to get the character or weapon you want. Idk why they didn't just do that on the weapon banner at the first place.

I've never used it, and the very few limited weapons I've gotten were off the first 5 star I got on a weapon banner. I've never hit the hard cap of epitomized path, so I don't have much hope for the chronicle banner unless I save enough to guarantee pity
My guess as to why Hoyo refused to let the Weapon Banner give a guarantee after just one lost 50/50 is because weapons can be used on different characters with the same scaling stat of the weapon (especially if the player has a specific build in mind). This means if you R5 one particularly good weapon, it can work on multiple characters of the same type and you don't have to wish for that weapon again when your characters can just share it. Hoyo just wants to profit as much as they can from the gacha before actually rewarding the player, betting on luck about how much they can receive and on the player's willingness on how much they wish to invest on the weapons.
I've been a f2p player since I started Genshin at 2.3... I always heard how bad the weapon banner is and I didn't wish on it until I did. I've gotten 5 sig. weap. from the weapon banner up until now and all BACK TO BACK without using a SINGLE fate point. And then one of my friends show me the Tectone situation and I REALLY feel lucky. Somebody call Mona cuz idfk how the stars are aligned for me, a nobody, having the exact opposite luck from a well known Streamer.

I forgot to choose my 5 star weapon before wishing for Engulfed Lightning, I don’t get why it would be off by default… I got Yoimiya’s bow and I don’t even have a fate point as a consolation prize.
It's 2 fate points bc it's a 25/37.5/37.5 if you lose the first one to the 25 and get a standard then it becomes 50/50 and then if you get the wrong signature weapon then that's when they want to guarantee you the weapon you want.

I'll say this... I C6R5 Eula on her debut banner, and I'm pretty sure it didn't take me $2k to get there. I believe Aquila was the weapon running with Broken Pines at the time and while I did miss twice or three times, I only got one copy of Aquila (which at the time I was also wanting a copy of). Fast forward to present day, I still have R1 Aquila. I do also have R1 WGS, but that's another story... 😊
When I first got into the game, I was warned that the weapon banner was a scam. Then this incident happened & laid it all bare for everyone to see. The odds against Tectone were truly astronomical.

Pulling on weapon banners could be REALLY GOOD if you're aiming for a 4 star weapon. Weapons like the Alley Flash are only found on the weapon banner, nd its the best 4 star for Bennett.
Although pulling for a 5 star weapon on the weapon banner could inly be really viable if both weapons are good for your account.
(I'll pull on the weapon banner in 4.5 as f2p, for Chiori's signature as someone with Albedo nd no Cinnabar Spindle, but even if i get Redhorn Stonethresher it'd be very nice since i have itto as well 💀👍)

Now i need to save up for whoever tickles my fancy while dealing with the game constantly crashing on me. Love it so far but i might be exploring too much,found the cryo regisvine when my chara is only lvl 7

In honkai impact, you don't get the pity system. You are guaranteed at 100 pity and yes, it's even more hellish than both genshin and hsr. This is after the modifications. Back in the day it was much much more ruthless than now.
I be honest and say, I used to spend Money on Genshin, but in an very small Amount.
I got enough out of these days to last me forever and I'm never going back. I spend a little over 1000€ on the Game, but came to my senses by myself and said "screw it".

Honestly, the best way to get the weapon you want is to choose the path for the one you don’t want. Seriously. Try it - you’re more likely to pull the 5* you want, because the system is set up to give Hoyo more money - so, cheese the system by choosing the weapon you don’t really want.

Saying that the weapon banner changed because of Tectone is just a lie, overestimating his importance. Many CN players asked for changes not because of Tectone (almost no one there knew who he was), but because they had the same problem. Don't players always say that Mihoyo only listen to CN players? So why they would change something because a loud bald guy had bad luck?

I find the fate Point guarantee being after 2 lost 5050s still a scam. That’s too many wishes, and the FOMO from having filled 2/2 fate points by like 1 day before the banner leaves is so high people end up feeling a strong incentive to spend. The game doesn’t give us enough resources even if you save for 2 patches to 2/2 fate points and then guarantee the third weapon you want. It’s just another way to scan while looking good. I guarantee you less people would be pulling on the weapon banner after a loss back then than now.
The new banner system is technically better for weapon selection specifically of course, but it’s still a bit garbage due to us knowing fuck all for how long they run for/when they come back, and the fact that it’s a separate pity system from the normal banners which still requires primos and event wishes, with faint points not carrying over.
