    I would really like to see you replacing the old rectifier/regulator for the new combined unit. This video confuses me more than it helped me. But than you for the effort anyhow.

    Great video, and I did just what you explain in the video. Now the chargin system on my CB450 works just fine.👍

    I just bought the reg/rec combo and want to do this mod but like some other commenters, I'm confused on where you are combining these wires and how. I got a picture and instruction guide with my order but it doesn't really clear anything up. An actual step by step vs a drawing would be great. Are these wires going into each other? Does that leave a yellow and white wire dangling? How is the power getting to the rec/reg if the yellow and white wires are just left unconnected? Some more clarity here would be HIGHLY appreciated.

    This video raises more questions than it answers. The drawings are, well, upside or backwards or something. You have 3 wires coming out of what looks like a connection but it's not, or wait, is it?, oh wait, is it the regulator? or is it the stator or is it the rectifier?
    You say merge the wires behind the stator. How do you get behind the stator?

    Okay dumb question. My 1979 GL100 rectifier only has 2 prongs coming off of it and looks like a fuse and sits next to the battery, could I still use a regulator rectifier in this situation? 😅

    Hey I have a question for the charging mod.
    So you splice the white wire into the yellow wire and then just tape off the other end of the white wire? Or should I splice the wires together and have two wires coming together from both sides of the bundle?
    Thanks.

    • @stevemajor1110
      @stevemajor1110 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No he clearly tells you to put yet yellow and white together and plug it the rectifier watch it again it is very clear as to where all the wires go.

    I'd like to rewind the rotor as to eliminate the yellow /white mod . I'd like to know how to rewire the stator for maximum output . Can you tell me how many times should I wrap the 6 windings?

  • @anthonyp3922
    @anthonyp3922 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I will be merging the white into the yellow just behind the stator's plug....I hope that works! Not sure what happens to the white wire...I imagine that it becomes just an extra wire in the harness- nothing connected at either end. Also, I used an "end cap" from the hardware store for the yellow live wire. Then I bought about a foot of 14 AWG black wire and extended the black wire running from the new regulator/rectifier to give me a little more line to run/hide the harness. Hope that does the trick and doesn't explode! Makes me want to take an electronics class....

    Hi, thanks s lot for the professional instructions here in this vedio. Just one short but puzzling question, please: Does a CB/CL450 use the same stator alternator unit as the one used on a CB/CL350?
    Thanks a lot again Terry in Taiwan

    I’m trying to up the voltage output on s 1966 CL77. The OEM rectifier puts out 12.5 with headlight on, and a bit more with headlight off. Using the newer bridge rectifier, the rectified stator voltage is 17vdc at 45/50mph (no tach). This is too high. Idle is 12.5 to 12.75.
    Is there a way to regulate my dc voltage to no more than say 14vdc?
    Thanks.

    For the charging mod to the stator, do you simply splice the yellow and white together into the new wire?

    • @Common-motor
      @Common-motor  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, splice the white into the yellow and that bundle connects to the yellow on the new rectifier unit.

    • @Common-motor
      @Common-motor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The black wire is your 12v switched power. I wouldn't recommend running a unit without it. It sounds like it wouldn't be a combo reg/rec unit if it doesn't have that capability.

      Yes, the new regulator rectifier unit comes with a square plug to replace the round style one. Just match up the color wires as they should be the same.

    great vid, but not precise enough for me. or maybe my English is not good enough. On the stator wires you put the yellow (day) and the white (night) together. but then, on the bike harness, on which colour do you put the wire ?

      Common Motor Collective well, I watched this video from you : th-cam.com/video/uTgEqTqzs-M/w-d-xo.html
      more clear. and that's what I did on my old 350. I also changed the Reg Rect for a new one like yours. The charging system seems to be improved. I have around 14V without lights, and almost 13V with the lights on. I still have to do a road test to see what's going on with the battery. I will check the voltage before leaving, then check after driving lights OFF, then check back home with lights ON. But I'm a bit confident. btw we have nothing else to do than working on our old crap during this trying times.

  • @glenfitton2584

    If 1/2 of the stator or coil is operating when the light is off and all of the stator coil is working when the light is on and I always have my light on, how can I improve on that?

    • @glenfitton2584
      @glenfitton2584 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does not look like you answer any of these questions. On my own, I could not see how your product would improve the charging of a bike that always runs with the light on.

      Check out our reg/rec page here: common-motor.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360020830392-Regulator-Rectifier-Overview-Replacement
      There's a modification that keep your both sides of the coil always live for charging. Also we recommend changing the 60w bulbs most people sell for the headlights with our 35w or an LED. It improves the charging on these bikes significantly. If you ever have a question or need quicker help ask us something through our website support button. We can get you a lot quicker answers. This isn't currently monitored full time.

    The stator ground is not connected?

    • @stevemajor1110
      @stevemajor1110 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stator has no ground wire. The stator bolts ground it to the block. If you just do exactly what he tells you you will be fine. the 4th wire is the neutral light wire.
