It should be available free to the public. We, the taxpayers, already paid for their bodycams. Also, this bill is a violation of the Freedom of Information Act.
Bottom 50% of wage earners pays 9% of the overall tax bill top 50% of wage earners pays the rest. If you make less than $50,000 a year you're in the bottom 50%. They don't care about the bottom half because we aren't the taxpayers that are paying their bills. By the way the bottom is just like the top its multicultural and it's being screwed over by their tops.
They don’t even send the footage. I requested the body cam footage from my own traffic stop that lasted less than 10-20 minutes on October 28th. I still haven’t received it. In Columbus, Ohio.
Taxpayers pay for those cameras and the footage, now Ohio GOP wants to charge to see it? That's like a double tax, and also I believe it violates the freedom of information act. Either way I foresee a lawsuit, class action or otherwise.
The bill made it illegal to video record first responders WITHIN 25 FEET. It’s legal outside of that. Why pass it? Because being that close poses a distraction and often even a danger to the first responders and the suspect. At best, you were just simply wrong because you never actually bothered to look it up, which is still bad. At worst, you knew and were just being a deliberately disingenuous POS.
How can that footage not belong to the people who pay the taxes for it we pay for their service therefore we own that it’s not exclusive to the cops, but should be public property

$750 for police video is outrageous these police videos should be transparent to the public for free it doesn't cost the cops any money to transfer the video footage
Im an Ohioan. It doesn't matter if he signs it. There would be a congressional overhaul. Conservatives who wrote the bill have a supermajority in Ohio.
All citizens should have cameras on them that upload to secure servers at all times. Not your phone, those can be confiscated. Digital media on private servers requires a warrant which means your lawyer will have it before the police can tamper with evidence.
This bill sounds dumb they r public records they should be auto uploaded to a site that the public can easly view not have to pay.cause what happens if they raid your house not the neighbor that they were supposed to now u jave to pay to fix your house and pay them to not be aload to sue
I do think it’s a valid concern to worry that the influx of new requests from everywhere might bog down the other tasks of a department. There is a bunch of TH-cam crime channels popping up that are just there for entertainment purposes that are making requests as well. That said, I don’t think a fee is the way to address it. Our tax dollars already pay for body cams and the salaries of these departments, so we should have access, and it’s important that we do. A better solution would be hiring more people, even if just for admin work, even if that costs more tax dollars than this fee. Also, Jackson… studies have shown that body cams have resulted in a 10% -17% percent decrease in police use-of-force, so that was incorrect.
@@orlandoescobar5174 Use your second braincell for a second. I know that’s a big ask, but try. We can find real areas of waste to cut to offset it, unlike the stupid ideas that Elon and Vivek have, or we can find a way to allocate the responsibility of these requests to an existing agency that can handle it. Additionally, I’m not opposed to the government adding fees, where it makes sense. That could be another good option to help offset the cost. However, transparency in policing is more important, so I don’t believe a fee here makes sense. I say that as someone who supports the police and thinks “ACAB” is the mantra of morons.
