You are so complete in the care and "growth" and "branching" of the ficus. Very succinct. Appreciate this so much. Subscribed and thumbs up. Will be referring to this many times.
A fabulous and very informative video. Have just found your channel and I look forward to viewing others and new ones as well. Regards from Brisbane Australia
It is a pleasure to listen to you and your explanation. Thank you for being so thorough. It helps a lot. Please have some more other plants to discover for beginners specifically!😊
This is one of the best, if not the best video I've watched on youtube that explains the pruning of the Fiddle Leaf Fig. I"ve wanted to notch my Fiddle Leaf and your lesson is priceless! Thank you!!
Good video, but disagree on watering. On my first Fig plant I followed the said advice above and nearly lost it to too much watering. What I found through trial and error, is that the plant loves a lot of water but likes to dry out. As such I water mine profusely outside, soak it for about 5 minutes with water running out the bottom. Why, this takes out all the salts in the soil. I then let it drain for 15 to 3 minutes, take it inside and put it into its decorative pot. There it sits growing and looking beautiful for about a month. At the month cycle I test the soil, if it's still registering moist, I let it go another week. Once it registers to the dry side (water meter), I repeat the watering process. My first Fig has grown to over 7 feet and has grown 3 additional branches. Hope this helps.
Thank you for sharing your expertise! I am very comforted by your explanation of "Oedema" - now I don't have to wonder/stress over it anymore. Thank you❣🙏💝
I feel so lucky to come across this video Like previously mentioned the best video ever with all information I need to take care of my plant. Thank you
Great information! I appreciate this precise and clear instruction video tape. In the past, I have made some mistakes of pruning and growing fiddle leaf fig trees. Now, they are out of shape, and I am figuring out how to made them look better. I'll follow your notching and cutting methods to shape my trees.
So far the best video I have seen . Very thorough n precise way of explaining everythng about fiddle fig. I could grow my fig almost double in height seeing your previous videos. Really u understand n explain like a plant doc
Thank you so much for your video. I rescued my fiddle leaf after it had been passed over at the grocery store for a year. It was in need of some loving care. So, I brought it home and repotted it and it's growing a lot but has adema and I did not know what it was. I'm so relieved, thank you!
Very informative video. THANK YOU for this. I have a Fiddle Leaf fig that is growing straight with beautiful big leaves at some point I will notch it. I will rewatch this for confidence reasons. GREAT VIDEO AAGGAAIINN!!
this is such a helpful video! thank you so much for all the tips and tricks as always. my ficus is still pretty small but i have been wondering about what it would look like in future. you also tell everything precisely and without extra ‘look at my lifestyle’ information that many plant enthusiasts have. i appreciate your channel a lot!
Thank you for this video, I’ve been waiting because my fiddle leaf fig had those red spots and I didn’t know what they were. Now I can relax. This is my 3 rd time trying to grow one and this one seems to be growing well since I’ve given it more light than the others I had.👍
Very good video. it’s very good for me you speak slowly. I learned how to plant the Ficus Lyratas. I also learned English from your video.I will keep watching your video.
Thanks, this was very informative. I like that you explain how it works and what you can expect to happen, like which way you can direct the branch to grow.
This is the very best video! i would love to see exactly how much water you give for that size plant. Is it 8 ounces, 16 ounces, 24 ounces and how often in a home with air condition and a home with heat on. Thank you!!!!!
i just recently bought a fiddle leaf fig tree at a plant store & i didn’t realize until i got home that the leafs have holes on them. I’ve been looking for a video that will help me help those leaf’s health but i have no luck 🥲😭 theirs about 4 of them that are breaking leafs/holes in them
thanks , for this very informative video, i newly bought Ficuslyrata recently, its quite doing well, but wanted to ask , about my rubber plant, i have this plant for almost 10 years, and got so many cuttings and gave it to my friends. now, i have only the mother plant and i wanted to ask can i do the notching to my old rubber plant, as of now he has only two branches, and i want to have some if i do the notching??
My fif is small in single stem. And in clay pot.it has brown spots on almost all leaves. It's main stem is hard and brown. It's kept in shade of a bright balcony. I loved your video and perfect explanation. Can you please guide for its further care. I dont want to ruin it. New leaves are not growing nor It has a bud. I'll wait for your 3 4 and 5 tips until it's healthy but how would I know it's getting well or not.
Wow thank you so much for your very detailed explanation of pruning , pinching and nothing , I pinched and notched my rubber plant 2 weeks a go but I haven’t seen any tiny buds coming out from the stem and with this it makes me think to prune the rubber plant that I pinched , nothced, do you think it is a good idea?
I was so afraid to own one but since I have one now for a month it only dropped one leaf and is producing more leaves even in dormant months and yes the edema is unavoidable and it is cute freckles until the mautre!
Will notching work on a rubber plant? Tried to propagate plant with water and dirt and failed miserably! I don't want to cut more off the plant. Thanks for all the great info. Unless you go to a plant nursery, people at big box stores know nothing about plant care.
Dear best Skandierten Plant Tuber... would you like please talk about growth Lamp? Is it enough to buy a Fluorence Lamp. Thank you. Hug for all your Team!
Great video that explains so much more details than other videos I have watched ! But I have one more question that is it a good ideal to plant fiddle leaf in a self watering pot ? Will it be too much moisture to it ? Looking forward to your response, thank you for the helpful video !
I’ve found self watering pots cause roots to stay too wet. It keeps soil at the bottom too wet and soil near the top not wet enough. It’s best to top water so ALL the soil gets watered thoroughly and can wash all the minerals and salts out.
So far I've heard three different ways to water the Ficus Lyrata. I'm guetting a bit confused cause in each video, the plants looks amazing haha I guess it depends on where you live and the light it gets.
A Fiddle Leaf Fig tree that I care for lost of it's leaves in the past freeze. I repotted the tall baron tree into a healthy mix of potting soil with compost and earthworm castings. Leaves have grown. prolifically around of the tree. I'm wondering if more leaves will grow up the whole bare tree or should I cut the dead tree off. Please help. Tk you
It is Fall in Wisconsin-USA; my fiddle leaf is really tall and skinny; should i wait until Spring to prune and notch? And can the piece you cut off from pruning be propagated?
My fiddle leaf has not got lower leaves down to the soil like yours has. How do I promote more growth at the bottom of the main stems. I've only just got this plant and it was like that when I got it.
@@danielas3223 They usually take about 6-8 weeks to root. Dip it in rooting hormone first and then place it in tepid warm water. When the water looks murky put fresh water in usually every 4-5 days so you don’t risk bacteria. You don’t need to add any rooting hormones to the water only when you first cut the plant. You only need 2-4 leaves and about a 5 inch stem.
Mine got sick. All my leaves turned black and all of them fell off except the top one. 😢 after what I feel was like 1.5mos I have two new leaves at the top. Hope this helps. I water it differently now.😊
Plant guy, I know you are a botanist, talking about apical meristematic growth. I am going to try to notch and pinch. I never had any success with notching alone. Let's see what happens. Thanks.
I wanna get the chance to thank you for every video, I have ficus lyrata it's small and young. I got it last winter, when it didn't put any new leaves till late spring, then it was hard worker 😉. Again this winter it put 2 new leaves but they are extremely small and full of these oedema.. they are almost totally red. Shall they grow bigger?! And how to activate having bigger leaves in general? Thanks once again, waiting for your explanations. Best wishes 🙂
By the way I have the baby type of lyrata, so I know that the leaves are relatively smaller than the one you are showing, but I meant the ones produced in winter are smaller than the others
You are so complete in the care and "growth" and "branching" of the ficus. Very succinct. Appreciate this so much. Subscribed and thumbs up. Will be referring to this many times.
The best video on the fig tree that I've seen. Now excuse me, I'll be notching!

Best thing: These tips work for all ficuses!
Realy? Did you do this by rubber tree?
@@parslakalane I've heard it works for rubber tree also. I've only tried on Ficus microcarpa and variegated triangle fig.
Video fantastico! Saluti dall'Italia
I always water from the bottom. Is that okay? When it rains I pop it outside for a thorough drenching but all other times bottom watering.

Question: how do you clean the leaves?
