You can really tell that Gabrielle learned a lot from Xena, in only three short seasons. Gabrielle's character development is one of my favorite things about this show.

I was shocked by the sudden violence and blood in this scene as a kid 😄 This is the only time we see anyone bleeding from getting hit by Gabrielle.

This fight is always hard to watch. *Gabrielle* gave out such a beating it wasn't like her to do it but she was left with no choice, *Tara* was to blame. She kinda had it coming after winning the brutal assault in hand to hand the first fight, but *Gabrielle* with her *Bo Staff* in hand is pretty much game over.
I love the gut-wrenching 'I don't wanna hurt you anymore!' Gosh renee o'connor is a hell of an actress 💚💚💚💚

The clip I've been waiting for. Being older now I noticed that I identify with Gabrielle a lot as I'm rewatching the show. Watching it originally I thought Gabrielle was a weight on Xena and wasn't until this clip I was like...ok Gabby! I dig you. lol One of my favorite scenes. I've remembered this scene more than any other from this series, showed how much Gabrielle had grown not only as a young woman but a budding warrior as well.
This scene was very satisfying, watching Gabrielle beat some sense into her.

Or worse. Gabrielle was taught how to use that staff in a debilitating/deadly fashion. Xena knew that, and knew Gabrielle was willing to go that far if provoked. That's why she stopped Tara.

For sure and Gabrielle took it easy in the beginning. And the more Tara got up the more her blows became more stagnant. I wish that was in the later seasons when Gabrielle became a more of a warrior- -this fight would of been a lot shorter.

I would have ended up whipping her with that staff too. 😭😂 Gabrielle's patience was running thin with Tara. Tara was unfortunately too entitled and didn't know how to express her emotions properly at all.
@Furyan Auror She was someone that shouldn't be attacking someone & threatening their life because she wanted to get rid of them even though they clearly cared about her. It was better that Gabrielle was the one that did it & actually cared. Anyone else would have just killed her for constantly attacking them in that world. To be honest.. that altercation saved her life. She realized she wasn't the best and she didn't know everything like she thought she did.
Gabrielle only hit her to save her own life. I mean the girl was welding a giant club. Plus Tara had to be taught you can't just push people around to get your own way.

Gabrielle was trained by Xena and also The Amazons. Tara was pretty naive, there´s no way she could stand any chance against Gabrielle when she´s ready. Gabrielle´s character development as both warrior and person is one of best things about this show.
Oh I remember Tara she was a pain! So happy when Gabrielle whipped her! And I think Xena set them up by leaving both of the girls behind because she knew Tara will bully Gabrielle again and Gabrielle needed to stand up for herself this time.

At first Tara was a bad girl but all of a sudden I actually felt sorry for her. I mean losing her mom when she was four that was pretty sad.

Daishia The Overreactor she had the upper hand because she’s a better fighter. The first fight between them wasn’t fair as Tara delivered a sucker shot. Gabrielle was caught completely off guard and never had a chance to regain her balance and gather her bearings.

Everyone's talking about how great it was for Gabrielle to beat Tara. And that's fine. I don't disagree. But I really want to call attention to the fact that she (Tara) was really damaged, given what her life was like to that point. I was satisfied when she got what was coming to her, then heartbroken when she broke down. This show was really good at pulling on your emotions sometimes.

Tara really is a good kid, she's just misguided and had to be set straight. This beating was waiting to happen. Unfortunately this put Tara in a place she never wanted to revisit. After her mom died, her father took to drinking and occasionally rough her up. That's how after coming of age she ran away and found herself in a motley crew of bad boys. I'm glad she got straight and found herself in a place where she belongs. The next time they run into Tara she's in a town that forbids dancing.
