I LOVE this fight. Moments like this are when the series broke stereotypes to shock the audience with something fresh. Scenes like this and when Xena let Callisto sink in the quicksand are memorable because they go against viewer expectations. It's perfectly normal for a strong warrior to be defeated on occasion but most series refuse to let their protagonist lose a single battle. It's unrealistic which is what made this show so cool--it did things other shows wouldn't.
Anything with Najara in it made for an AMAZING episode! And Xena being soooooo DONE with her trying to convert Gabby. Lol Xena and Najara fights were so 😍😍
Yes, this was one of the most memorable fights from Xena for me for so many reasons! For one, it plays out like any other fight on Xena until Najara bursts up and starts screaming like a madwoman, even catching Xena off guard and then actually taking Xena down! Blew my little mind back then. For another, Xena waking up and spitting out her tooth all with a "the things I do for love" attitude and basically admitting that her and Najara were fighting for Gabrielle's affection also blew my little mind. I was like, "Oh, so we're not caring anymore, huh? This show's wildin' out!" ....Heh, good times, good times...
I honestly think this was one of those moments where Xena under estimated one of her opponents and paid dearly for it. Usually, Xena is very forward thinking in battle but clearly, like you said, the competition over Gabrielle clouded her judgement. 😳🤔👍😬 #Ouch
The thing I love about this episode is that in a sense, Najara was right about what that darkness would do to Gabrielle. Plus, in a setting where trial by combat is a thing, well.....
I love how XWP uses an ancient setting to tell stories about our present. A critique to how we sometimes judge too quickly and harshly based on our own morality, how we label someone as evil without even trying to understand why they act a certain way. Something specially relevant these days with social media.
I agree. Najara was an excellent character and the writers didn't do her justice in the follow-up. What made her great was her moral ambiguity. At times we all ask ourselves if courts are really fair and who determines what justice actually means.
It would be good if more people watched Xena reaction videos by Chosen One Reactions on TH-cam. She’s just finished season three and she really loved it.
It was really interesting to witness Xena's loss to Najara. This event proved that anyone's unable to win every time. I must admit that their battling styles are pretty alike, yet Xena truly knows what she wants or does-she's a true warrior, while Najara is more of a vigilante(she likes killing too much). That's why she wouldn't have hesitated even for a second to kill a person(in this video, her victim could have been Xena). Najara is a fanatic, but not a crazy renegade. She has the amazing intellectual ability to persuade and fool people(the way she talked and behaved as something like "The mother of peace" after she took the village or when she was smelling the flowers or when she offered both Xena and Gabrielle to join her in swan watching) as well as the talent to hide her unthinkable actions(few people knew about the massacres she and her army had caused)-she was even able to outsmart Xena and make the Warrior Princess trust her. After she revealed her true identity, she lost complete control and as a result, she was ultimately defeated. Just like Xena, I too believe Najara has faith in what she claims or says about meeting Eli, but she's still a dangerous villain, someone who broke out of prison to get others in trouble. Xena's conversion was sincere, while Najara's wasn't. PS: what training did they do and became such awesome battlers? Even Ares had trouble beating Xena...
In the episode they let very clear why Xena lost to Najara. The possibility that Gabrielle going away with someone else make her unstable. Najada used this all the time against her.
It was obvious that Najara would regret that she didn't kill Xena because Xena will never give up following Gabriel and defeating Najara to death because she's undefeatable not Najara 😊
Even the best fighters lose sometimes. It's not realistic to make someone invincible. Losing a battle made Xena more realistic, human and relatable. I loved it.
@@peterswift5703 not really, xena catches enemies off guard all the time and we still consider her winning. look at how xena kills elanese from Athena's army, she wins by doing a dirty move but she still wins. Xena lost, it happens.
I kind of agreed with Najara on a few levels. First point is that in the times they represent warlords are relentless and cruel and we never actually see the court system that Xena is trying to uphold so it kind of seems like all of the injustice is just getting away. Second they gave this episode the perfect ending by Najara telling Gabrielle she forgave her because again I could relate to Najara's choice of justice so it kind of seemed ambiguous, like who was right and who was wrong in this scenario? They ruined Najara's character by making her seem crazy. She could see Xena's vision. The Light seemed real. For whatever reason the writers decided to just mark her off as schizo despite having clairvoyant abilities which seemed self-defeating.
I agree with you @SDGirl05. Xena has gone up against an entire army on her own during the time Gabrielle was near death from a poisoned dart and she pretty much pulverized every armed soldier in that battle. Yes, Najara was a skilled fighter, shown to match her abilities to that of Xena’s but there is no way she defeated Xena on her own merit. In the end, Xena came out the triumphant winner anyway, taking Najara down by using what was closest to Najara’s heart: Gabrielle (all with Gabrielle’s willingness of course).
You and I both have different definitions of “snuck”, which is of course based on the word sneak. In order for Najara to sneak, she would have quietly approached Xena enough to not get her attention. But that didn’t happen - Najara screamed out and charged at Xena. Can you understand my confusion now as to why I’m unable to agree with you that she snuck up on Xena?
Najara clearly has a thing for Gabrielle (and wants her to be hers) but unfortunately for her Gabrielle will follow Xena to the ends of the world and beyond (not to mention they are soulmates) so Najara never stood a chance to fully convert Gabrielle to her side! She's basically a Christian version of Xena!
I love this scene, particularly because Najara beat Xena with zero tricks and by brute force alone. Makes me wish they pitted Najara up against Callisto; would have loved to watch their dialogue
rainbowrabbit I don’t think Najara coming out with a raging scream qualifies as a sneak attack; there was nothing sneaky about it and Najara didn’t feign defeat. She simply wasn’t defeated and forced Xena to resort to using her weakness of Gabrielle against her.

She leaves Xena there because Gabrielle knows it's the only way that Najara won't kill Xena. Najara has clearly developed a bit of a possessive thing over Gabrielle, so that's why Gabrielle gives her the whole spiel about Xena's dark side being scary, and needing to move on, knowing that Najara will buy it. Xena wakes up, realises that Najara's weakness is the same as hers: Gabrielle. She catches up to them, lures Najara away from the cave they're in, finds Gabrielle and they put a plan together to take Najara down. When Najara returns, Xena pretends (although it's not much of a stretch at that point) that she's lost the plot and is about to kill Gabrielle ("if I can't have her, no one's gonna have her"). The thing about that is, Najara didn’t cheat. She didn’t use magic, poison, deception, or anything that would have suggested this wasn’t a fair fight. It wasn’t even a sneak attack by Najara because in order for it to be sneaky, Najara had to have quietly got up and backstabbed Xena. But no - Najara got up in a screaming rage because she wasn’t defeated , so it wasn’t a sneak attack. @@lucasgonzalez7276 Callisto the best? She lost every fight even as a god and only kept returning because she was helped by other gods. Xena needed to use Gabrielle as a distraction to win the second fight and Najara was beaten half dead at the beginning of the Convert.
Amazing fight, and unusual to see Xena beaten! Both ladies are super fighters. I don't understand some of the heavy philosophy as I missed some episodes when Xena was on TV. But as a standalone fight scene, with our heroine Xena fighting an ostensibly baddie Najara, this is some experience!
In a fight without Gabriel or anyone else around, I still think Xena would win. Najara is near-equal to Xenas fight ability, but Xena has got attitude, experience and the eye of the tiger when she fights. Najara's fanaticism makes her mad and dangerous, but that also makes it easier to get her wound up and loose her concentration. I'm not saying it would be breeze for Xena, as Xena would actually have to go all-out and be 100% focused. Cause if Najara gets the drop on you, its game over, we saw in this scene.
@@bextiyarmemmedli5318 true, but most of the opponents she fought when she was evil. And while she was evil, she wasn't at her best combat wise. She'd fight wildly and undisciplined, but when she fights for good she's a bit more disciplined, focused and motivated (a bit wild, but not lik a loose Cannon). It's how she's defeated stronger or equally skilled oppoents, while as the Warrior Princess, like Alti, Calisto, Ares, most of the Olympian gods, the Destroyer, Athena, Methasapholes, Lucifer, Livia (when she was evil) etc etc. No she's not undefeated, but I'd take Xena the Warrior Princess over Xena the Destroyer of Nations anyday. As the Destroyer of Nations, better fighters who are disciplined or skilled like Hercules, Lau Ma, Cyane could turn her aggression on her and thus she'd never win. As Lau Ma would probably say, to conquer others is to have power, to conquer yourself is to know the way. While she was bad, she had yet to conquer herself.
A good episode but it was hilarious how this show constantly brought up how wrong it was to execute anyone without a trial. Yet Xena killed baddies all the time.
Don't underestimate Najara. Just because we only got what? Two episodes of her doesn't mean she's and amateur. The 3 fights she had against Xena she did very well.

I love it ❤ Thank you so much.
Najara won by cheating! That’s no fair fight
As I said before , what I like about this fight is that Najara won through brute force and zero tricks.
Xena got beat like a Government Mule ...
Najara wasnt insane the gen aka the voices was driving her in insane
That's a possibility too I guess.
Callisto can totally defeat najara in a fight
She can't even beat Xena, even as a goddess.
xxlCortez What?? Callisto was the best! Najara is so weak, horrible fighter! Watch the next fight or The Convert! Huahuahua!
@@lucasgonzalez7276 Callisto the best? She lost every fight even as a god and only kept returning because she was helped by other gods.
Xena needed to use Gabrielle as a distraction to win the second fight and Najara was beaten half dead at the beginning of the Convert.
@@xxlCortez ''was beaten half dead'' , hahahaha, dude, Callisto and Najara theres no comparison.
Najara is weak. Deal with it.
@@lucasgonzalez7276 I'm not wasting more time a lowly troll.
3:18 The figth ends here. Xena wins.
Najara was so coward. That’s the true.
My Teenage crush
3:36 Xena have to use the chackran instead that chair
Why Xena don’t use her chakram to fight najara?
Seems like she's not giving her 100%. 95% focus makes 50% result
Excellent😍I lost one of mine good chewing teeth
I need to make an edit of Xena
Najara only wins the battle for hitting xena with that stick 🙄
Sticks are so powerful.
I liked it
;0
Nothing like a Black hair and blue eye Amazon warrior......,wow that's pretty hot
Keep in mind that Xena is not undefeated. He lost to Hercules, Lao Ma and Cyrene (at the first meeting). Palameon could kill her too.
During fights, not executing them after they were beaten.
The Cold Case lady once beat up Xena lmao
Excuse me but how the hell did Xena lose to this amateur?! Najara isn’t even half as good as Calisto and she still won 🙄
Because Callisto was out. They needed a good and ~interesting~ villain. Well, doesnt worked.
Don't underestimate Najara. Just because we only got what? Two episodes of her doesn't mean she's and amateur. The 3 fights she had against Xena she did very well.
Callisto would get a few good hits in but she'd look upon the light lmao
@@bambibelle84 “very well”?? Watch the last fight! 😂
And watch The Convert last fight too! 😂
Amateur? If we judge by the actors' fighting skills, Xena herself also far from legendary.
Xena got beaten a lot
