Great observations Nick, actually Phantom Slaughter, the main guy in Worm, described some of the music on the album as homage to the early days of Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, and Anathema... What more can you ask for.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I didn't read any interviews or anything beforehand but I picked up on that old, gothic deathdoom feel immediately since I love that dreary stuff. It's pretty much a perfect homage to that sound.
Ok this album is disgustingly awesome. I'm 2 tracks in and already ordered the CD and a shirt. This is something I need in my collection! Definitely one of the biggest surprises of the year for me, one that hit me hard instantly. I hope they come to the UK at some point cause I wanna see them live!

I'm not a musician at all, but i hear alot of James Murphy/Chuck Shuldiner influence on the lead work. Really liking this album steps ahead of their previous and one of this years best.

Necrotic Nick- It's probably a year ender for me as well to be honest. 1914 will be in the next collection update after this one premieres actually. We didn't have time to actually review it so I threw it in since I bought pretty much the day it came out.

This might be the sickest death doom album of the year, it reminds a lot of DISEMBOWELMENT's classick -'Transcendence Into The Peripheral' (1993). I think it's the clean tone single string guitar drone melodies over the dirgey riffs that remind a lot of Disembowelment. It will be on my play list for this Halloween and all of it's parties!
Necrotic Nick- In terms of pure deathdoom this might be the sickest one this year. Since Hooded Menace branched out a bit more (and did it so damn well) this delivered all the slow, sludgy bleak soundscapes in it's place. I definitely get the Disembowelment (and even Inverloch) vibes all of over this one. Hopefully your party goers are ready for a sonic trip into hell. lol
Gloomlord was a great album and they only got better. This album slaps. I'm hoping I can see them live here in the FL swamps before I move to Colorado next year.
Necrotic Nick- Agreed. I love Gloomlord but this album is way more dynamic and melodic but still retains that filthy, murky sound they have. Hopefully these guys land on a solid tour package soon.
Just purchased this along with the Massacre, 1914 and Atrae Bilis albums, Death Doom is a strange genre for me, it usually treads a fine line between being kick ass or boring as fuck lol, but this and the Hooded Menace record have totally blown me away this year, I think its cos they have a lot of different elements that keep my interest... Oh and Riffs.. Defo the Riffs lol! Great review again fellas!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Nice pick ups, man! I'm kinda the same way with deathdoom though I don't mind the more droning sections as long as they don't carry on too long. Riffs are the big thing me as well and this one delivered some killer riffy moments and loads of atmosphere. Kind of a perfect balance of that on this one.
Yeah I'm loving this album so much. This year has been great for fans of Doom Metal and it's subgenres. I'm already making this my album of the year btw.

Killer review and album. Totally agree : I was surprised to hear the beautiful guitar leads... even some twin-harmony type stuff, though I guess it's just one guy playing guitar. At first it's surprising to hear over the doomy, chorusy, atmospheric guitar but it totally works. One of my fav albums of the year... agree that Chuck Schuldiner and James Murphy's influence has bubbled up from the swamps... into something newish and compelling.
Necrotic Nick- Those super melodic leads caught me off guard on Gloomlord and really made that release stand out so I was super happy to hear them return on this one. I think they're even better this time around too. It really makes these guys stand out from other deathdoom bands as well.

While I liked the production for the most part there were some areas where the synths overpowered the guitars rather than complimenting them. That was the only real gripe I had though. It's a brilliant album outside of that.
Mmmmm ... I've got an LP of this preordered, but DAMN it's not expected to ship till February. In the meantime, I've gotta try to avoid listening to streams. I adored 'Gloomlord' and suspect 'Foreverglade' easily will number among my AOTY contenders. Don't want to burn it out on a format other than vinyl. Tragic how supply chain issues are starting to impact our precious Metal resources.

Yeah, It sucks having to play the waiting game due to those issues. I'm still waiting on my copy of Fulci's new one which I ordered over the summer. Just have to be patient I guess.

this review has broken up day of finger-picking guitar from folks like Yasmin Williams (surely mentaller would dig this), Bryan Ruhija and Sally Anne Morgan.

Hopefully they don't go the way of Disembowelment and break up as well. I definitely want to hear more by them.

Chuck is one of those artists who once you hear, you can’t go back. Same with Yngwie Malmsteen, Sithu Aye, and lirerally everyone from Cynic lol

One of the best death-doom records in recent memory. Definitely gonna be paying VERY close attention to Worm going forward.

In my opinion, this is as close to a 5 out of 5 I’ve heard since listening to the Hidden History of the Human Race a few years ago...
