Love this idea on how to store them properly after use. I'd hate to throw them out if I can get another use out of them. Just started into the diamond art.
If you run out of a color on a different painting, you can find the DMC number in your storage and use them! It can be really useful. You can also use them to color correct any of the paintings that may have 'rouge pixels'.
My goodness, I wish I knew about DP earlier, it’s brilliant! I’ve just got my sister interested in it, sent her the links to your mini series. It must be the clearest explanation of what’s what in DP, thank you.
I love your system and see the good sense in it, if you do a lot of diamond painting. It must feel very satisfying to have nearly every color in backup! I use that kind of storage tray for my working painting and love it. But when I'm done, I don't save the leftovers. I know, living on the edge.
I love these ideas! I just started and can see I will be doing these for years to come! The DMC color guide is GENIUS!! Thank you for sharing these ideas! I am placing my order for some of these today!
Very helpful thank you! Really enjoy your diamond painting videos. I match those dye lots to the right color which may be a totally different number. Sometimes the companies send a close match if they run out of the precise color.
Im fairly new to diamond painting but loving it,didn't realise until I saw this video that the drills are universal,am I right in thinking that...that the colours of each particular kit match other kit's colours going by the code?
Yes the vast majority of kits have drills that match the DMC floss colors. However, there are some that don’t have DMC codes in their packets of drills, usually some of the round or special drill kits.
Can you please tell me what the point in saving all of them is? I am almost finished with my first one, but have a lot of diamonds left over. I don't wanna throw away but don't want extra clutter per say if I don't need them in the future.
You're so organized! Sadly, I haven't finished the video, why should I keep my extra beads? I just finished my first diamond painting. I started in December, (I'm slow) and I don't feel a need to keep them.
Many of us keep our spare drills because there is the rare occasion where we don't get enough or else, like I've done a few times, I spill them. If I have them in my spares, I don't both trying to pick them up on my carpet and have to dig through dirt and cat/dog fur. Some also use their spares on other projects.
Both rounds and squares follow the same DMC colors - they are actually colors that follow the DMC system for embroidery floss. Aurora Borealis follow the same color system but have the iridescent shimmer to them so they are "special" drills. Hope this makes sense.
I have on a few occasions. A couple of times because I ran short and a few times because clumsy me spilled mine. Even though I picked up as many as I could, I still needed more.
Hi Lisa ,which do you like best ,round or square drills? Or which do you think is easier to place down straighter ,or could you demonstrate both please .
Beverley Gardam I think the round drills are much easier than the squares. But I can do a video demonstrating both. Will put on my video “to do” list. 😊
If they have DMC codes on them, yes they are all the same. For example, 310 will always be black. Keep in mind, however, that there are different dye lots so one time you may get a, say, 666 that is one color and the next time you may get a 666 that is just slightly different. When they make each batch of new beads, it can be just a shade different. This is especially true for kits from AliExpress and Wish.
I have a question you might be able to answer for me. I am a snowbird and live in a very hot part of Arizona, and wondered if a completed diamond "painting" will survive in a locked up trailer during our hot summer when we leave. The glue that is used seems to me as though it might release in this heat, and I could come home to the plastic drills all over the floor, and all my labor thwarted! Any tips? It can be as hot as 140 in a locked up trailer.
Patricia Hazeltine I would say you should seal your diamond painting. I use the Tombow Aqua Glue. I have found that I can even water it down just a tad and it still works. I believe I have a video on it. With it being sealed, I don’t think you’d have a problem.
Patricia Hazeltine you could use them for just about anything you want. I just save my leftover drills just in case I run out of that color on another diamond painting.
How often do they not give a color you need? and do you ever contact them about sending the missing drills? Is it not being patient, not wanting to wait for the drills to come or will they not send them? Just wondering if I really need to save the drills.
SaChri it’s not real often that they don’t send a color but you do occasionally run out of a color, especially if you get a bunch of misshapen or bad ones in a particular color. If I am missing a color, I always contact the seller. But, yes, then you have to wait for them.
@@LisasColoringCorner Thank you for replying. Will they send more drills if you run out? Approximately how many diamond paintings have you done that you have that much stored. Just curious. Thanks Lisa!
SaChri every time I’ve had a diamond painting that has drills missing, they always sent me what’s missing. I must’ve completed about 25 - 30 diamond paintings so far but many of them are pretty big. I’ve never counted them but plan on doing a video showing all my completed ones. 😊
Annie G those drills would all have to be compared to the color card that I showed in the video that unfolds out. It is the most accurate representation of what the actual colors are for each DMC code.
My only problem is that my kits have been coming not in a useable bag if that makes sense and I don’t live in country I speak the language of so I can’t find containers like that :(
Where do you buy your diamond painting kits? I’ve been googling around but most of the sites I find look sketchy, and Amazon doesn’t have much of a selection, especially not of square drills which I want to try!
I have boughten a lot of mine from AliExpress. Another great site for cheaper diamond paintings is everydayedeals.com. They have a $3.99 section where most of them are 30 x 40 and some of them are square drill. Just have to look at the description.
How do I contact the company you use, sounds like helikon? Looking to purchase from them (with the zip lock baggies?) Can you post the website or is there a way to contact you? Quilter18

Thank you for sharing. I use the shoebox method for storing my leftover drills. Inspiration and info was gained from TH-camr:- 4kidsat147 I’ve added a couple of extra things to this system, to make it easier for me. Firstly I have placed small pieces of cardstock in my baggies, to make them stand up and secondly, I’ve added small numbered tabs at intervals, on top of the divider cards eg: 200, 250, 300, 350 etc...
LOL, you made my heart happy when you corrected yourself after saying "I have less and less".
I love colouring , diamond painting is not for me , but I do crafting , I would love one of those awesome containers

Thanks I learned alot! I'm a newbie and always looking to learn new things about DP!
but what is the point of keeping them? im trying to figure out why, so if i should do that or not.

@@LisasColoringCorner Thank you for sharing your storage!!! I use the Elizabeth Warren for my large paintings. It’s great.
@@Kasamigirl1 that’s what I use too. Love it!
This is very detailed.. I love your way of storing extra beads. 💕💕💕
I'm inlove with how you organize your extra beads! 💕
You have an awesome organization system. Its obvious how much you love your drills! Tfs!
Diane Llavore thank you so much!! Yes, I’m a little OCD about organization. Lol.
You’ve already done DP for few years??? Where have I been all this time!!! I only started after your mini series....

My dear friend, come to Vegas and organize my dps and my coloring books/supplies LOL
Michelle Bloodworth I would LOVE to do that!! Lol. 🤣😂😆
If they are similar but off, just put 152 and 152a, so you’ve got choices. Listen to me, as if I’ve been doing this for years not just 1 kit so far 😃
Cully Howard lol. 🤣
Are the drills universal, meaning can you use the drills from one company on the painting of another company? Thank you and great tips.
Yes you can.
What can l do with the drills left over from my diamond art
Very helpful thank you! Really enjoy your diamond painting videos. I match those dye lots to the right color which may be a totally different number. Sometimes the companies send a close match if they run out of the precise color.

Does diamonds art give u extra diamonds ??
Yesssss, I just started my first one this last weekend and there are some colors I’m already done with but have loads of spare diamonds in that color!
Pretty much every diamond painting company gives you at least 20% extra drills.
How do you tell the difference between DMC, rounds, Aurora Borealis, etc
Both rounds and squares follow the same DMC colors - they are actually colors that follow the DMC system for embroidery floss. Aurora Borealis follow the same color system but have the iridescent shimmer to them so they are "special" drills. Hope this makes sense.

Do you mix drills from different companies?
Yes, I do. Drills are follow the same DMC colors. Some dye lots are different so some will be a little different, even within the same company.
Do all beads have the same color code on different beads from different set but same color? Idk if I'm asking this right lol.
