    I won't argue your points but I think a case can be made either way for pushing in the clutch while starting or not. I have several reasons for doing this. The truck often sits for weeks without starting, and in colder weather I am never sure if the batteries will be up to the job. Pushing in the clutch provides an extra layer of safety. These old trucks will start in gear and are geared so low that they will idle through the wall of a building. On a 40+ year old vehicle a transmission malfunction would not be out of the question. By pushing in the clutch, the starter does not have turn over the transmission gears and fight the stiff lubricant. By leaving the clutch out, this gives the engine a little load with this stiff lube while starting and immediately after starting. One could argue that instead of loading the thrust bearing, you are loading mains & rod bearings, pistons, etc. Since I have never had a thrust bearing fail in 30+ years of driving, I won't worry about it too much.

    If the air pressure is down why wasn't the buzzer going? I want to know if they are Positive or Negative ground? If they are Negative ground like most cars then there is a lot of things that can be added to them.

      I had this same question. I never looked at the gages, just waited for that damn buzzer to go off. I can still here it 35 years later.

      The air pressure buzzer was probably disconnected,some owners for whatever reasons do it all the time,espiecally on other trucks.

    pushing the clutch in on a cold start actually puts crazy preload on the thrust bearing, which is drip lubed anyways. basically the last thing to get oil. in the race car world we do everything we can to make the cars start WITHOUT holding the clutch to the floor. its super bad ju ju. yes i realize i used gas refferences in a deuce video. i gots me a 5 ton and a firetruck as well. race cars just pay the bills.

    The head gaskets in these are not suppose to be very common unless the multi-fuel was highly abused and ran into the ground,usually when the gaskets come about,espiecally a leak,it's better to rebuild them than do one thing at a time and after another one.

      Ya I had to do one and I can agree with the but it’s even a bigger pain when you don’t have the proper head bolt socket and have to make your own

    Will that truck runn of cooking oil like a slush car?

      Terry it is a hypercycle engine. A diesel with comp. ratio of 22:1. Has a different type of chamber in the piston. Also has a fuel viscosity compensator to allow about any type of gas or oil to be burned.

      That is a fuel density compensatory on the rear of the fuel injector pump. There are all kinds of problems with different types of engines. It is just a good idea 2 disengage the clutch when starting these engines.
      The LDS 465-1 engine is a multi-fuel engine. It will run on Av-gas, Diesel #1 or #2, Marine fuel, JP-4 jet fuel, Kerosene or any combination there-of, or used engine oil mixed with gas.

      Basically any kind of diesel,oil,or fluid even can be used in a multi-fuel.However,you can't use straight gasoline if it isn't mixed with motor oil or diesel.At the least,it has to be 70/30 over gas on what amount you put in the tank.JP4-JP8 aviation fuel can also be used.The entire ordeal of one using gasoline or petroleum was really a emergency idea in a combat zone if there was really no other option for fuel.

      @@donovan2913 Because if something moves it then it could start! Just because the power is off it can still start! It is not like a car that needs a spark, auto diesel the injectors are controlled by the computer. This doesn't need any elect to start! All it needs is to turn over the engine. No may not be likely but it can happen and the book said not to leave in it gear! If it starts when in low with the torque it can put to the wheels it will go through almost anything!

      @@donovan2913 If the engine is cold it isn't very likely! But with 22:1 compression if the engine is worm it may only take about 1/2 of a revolution. But it isn't very likely. How much turning over does it take to start it normally. It is that one chance in a million that it may start. Like an airplane they turn the fuel off then when the engine stops then they turns the mags off. The fuel shut off should stayed pulled out until you are ready to start the engine!

      The engine stop switch shuts off fuel to the engine/injector pump. What's going to hit the truck hard enough to move that 7 ton vehicle anyway ? That will be a whole other set of problems..
