Why didn’t I just search this from the start? I’ve been dealing with this for 6 months. Tinkered around with it for an hour. Contemplated taking the seat out myself. Watched the video and fixed it a matter of minutes. Thanks brother!
Thank you so much!!! My friend had already been charged $500 for this fix once, and yes it happened again. What a blessing to be able to fix this for her. Absolutely takes longer to put the cover back on than the repair!
Thank you!!!! Just bought a 4Runner and found out I had this problem when buying a big piece of furniture Really didn’t want to spend my time taking the car back to the dealership! Thank you!!!!
Thank you so much, it worked like a charm. It was harder and took longer to push the plastic apart than it did to fix the cable. Thanks for saving us $300.
Brad. YOU ARE THE MAN! Fixed this in 10 minutes tops. Bungle cord worked great. The A wipe at Toyota wanted $120 just to diagnose the problem! I told him no thanks. Scott
Thanks so much!!! Mine stopped working months ago but I was afraid to bring it in. This was easy enough to fix but what a major design flaw!!! Toyota needs to come out with a free fix kit because this ish is dumb.
GREAT share! Literally took me five minutes, the cover was the hardest part. That cable was disconnected as you said and boom….fixed! Thank you for the savings! 🍻🍻🍻
You saved me $221.55! That was my exact problem and it took me less than 1 minute including popping open the plastic and putting it back together. Thank you!
Wowsers! I just fixed it. The hardest part was pulling back the cover thingy. Thank you for saving me $300. (By the way, I did call the dealership just to see what they would do. It was $199 for them just to diagnose the problem, but they did say it would count towards the repair.)
Thank you Brad! wow so easy. I went on a forum a while back and it just wasn't clear what they were talking about. Your video rocks- short and sweet. Toyota was going to charge me $150 to just look at it. It took me 5 minutes!
I had exactly the same problem and this video helped me to fix it. I used zip tie to make sure the cable stays in U socket. Thank you for making this video!
I just got stuck at Home Depot trying to get a new toilet in the cargo area and this seat wouldn’t go down. Thanks for posting! Quick search and quick fix I’m back in business.
Thank you Brad. It is so great when folks post solutions like this and make it easy to follow. Probably saved me an hour just in diagnosing the problem. Another suggestion. The long lever on the back of the seat that lets passengers in the all-the-way back move that rear seat forward enough to get out the side door--- the end of the cable on that has the same problem. I heated a nail to burn a hole through the plastic housing so I could hole that end in its plastic slot and used a zip tie to make sure it would never be a problem again. I was not able to come up with a similar solution to the bottom one you showed. I tried the channel locks to squeeze the slot together and it did not seem to move. We will see. At least it will be a quick fix next time. Thank you again.
Thank you! Should have known to consult TH-cam first. Wasted 30 min looking for the cable. Appreciate your easy lesson, 5 min fix once I got the right place.
Wow, had the same issue on my 2016... been dreading bringing it to the dealership to investigate the solution/ replace parts. Thank's for the help with a quick, free fix!
Just picked up a used 2016 sr5 premium 2inch lifted and all trail ready, this was the only problem with the whole vehicle and you just solved it for me, thanks for the video 👍🤟
Thank you!!! Omg I had to take a 65 inch TV 90 miles to have it repaired (because I live in the middle of f’ing nowhere) and I couldn’t get my stupid seat on the passenger side to lay down. You saved my sanity and my TV because it wouldn’t fit in the back otherwise. Also like you, I camp in my 4runner and that would’ve been a big bummer to get all ready to go and realize I couldn’t lay the seat down anymore.
Thank you! Fixed the problem in 10 minutes. I couldn't find a bungie cord so I just wedged the handle of the screwdriver (that I used to pry open the casing) in the opening of the casing to keep it open.
Thanks for making a video. I’m in the middle of moving and as luck would have it my rear seat would not go down. Just like on your video. I checked that spot you pointed out and sure enough the cable was out of its slot. Put it back in its grove and back to business. Thanks!
Thank you!!! Thought it was designed that way since its the entry seat for the third row seats. I could have sworn it worked when I bought the 4 runner but was beginning to think I dreamed it. Love this vehicle. That was my only beef with it. Thanks again.
Hallelujah!!! I just fixed my 2017 4 Runner that has had the same problem since purchasing in!! Now I just have to wiggle this plastic cover back into place! Lol
Thanks, Brad! The video is super to the point. I fixed the issue on my 4Runner. To prevent the cable from coming out again, I used a long zip tie to secure it in position.
Thank you for posting this. I read the below comments and it seems you helped a lot of people. Same issue happened to me today on my 2016. I broke the top level pull but that’s $11 on eBay. I did exactly what you said and it’s working. Hope it continues. Thank you again. -ps great idea on that tension hook. I don’t have one but wish I did
OMG thank you so much! I bought my 2015 two years ago and that has never worked I finally thought to go on TH-cam to see if anyone else had the same problem… LOL if I can fix it anyone can!
Thanks man for posting this the exact seat on my 17 limited just started doing that. When I’m not using my entire back half for work i like to use it for camping too!
Do you have a video for the 60% driver's side back seat repair. Same issue that it won't fold down. I can't find the same mechanisms on that seat and that is the one that is stuck on my 2012 Toyota 4 runner.
Thanks for the video. This applies to Lexus GX460 too, the components for both of these cars have similar designs. I suggest adding GX460 tag to your video.
Very, very helpful!! I have a 2012 Toyota Highlander which recently has the same problem. I have replaced the same cable on a self-propel Honda lawnmower. Pretty sure I can do the same thanks in great part to your video. Much obliged.
Why didn’t I just search this from the start? I’ve been dealing with this for 6 months. Tinkered around with it for an hour. Contemplated taking the seat out myself. Watched the video and fixed it a matter of minutes. Thanks brother!
Dude you just saved me $350!!! Thanks so much. Wouldn’t have guessed it was the opposite corner.
Thank you so much!!! My friend had already been charged $500 for this fix once, and yes it happened again. What a blessing to be able to fix this for her. Absolutely takes longer to put the cover back on than the repair!
I have a 2016 with the same problem. I just went to my 4Runner and fix this exactly what you said with no tools!! Thank you!!
Thank you!!!! Just bought a 4Runner and found out I had this problem when buying a big piece of furniture
Really didn’t want to spend my time taking the car back to the dealership! Thank you!!!!
Thanks for the post. Fixed mine in 15 minutes. Dealership wanted $145 to do the same.
Scott
Brad is the hero we need, but don’t deserve. Much thanks kemosabe.
Thank you. 2016 4runner Mine popped off last night and it's fixed within 24 hours.
Thanks so much!!! Mine stopped working months ago but I was afraid to bring it in. This was easy enough to fix but what a major design flaw!!! Toyota needs to come out with a free fix kit because this ish is dumb.
Love TH-cam!!

Thank you man! My seat back stopped working after a recent beach vacation. Back in business now. Videos like this are great.
You crazy S0B! It worked 😂. Took me less than a minute once I tried the plastic cover apart. I have a 2017 4Runner. Thanks!

Awesome Sarah - Glad I could help!
Thanks for that. Same seat, same problem in my 2018. I'm moving and need the space- this video is a life saver
I had exactly the same problem and this video helped me to fix it. I used zip tie to make sure the cable stays in U socket. Thank you for making this video!

Thanks, man. Same problem (2016, same seat). Fixed it in 2 min with your video.
Awesome. Saved me money and trouble getting it fixed and a delivery fee for furniture. Also made me look like a hero to my wife 😁. Thank you!
THANK YOU! it took me longer to put the plastic cap back on than the actual fix haha
Just picked up a used 2016 sr5 premium 2inch lifted and all trail ready, this was the only problem with the whole vehicle and you just solved it for me, thanks for the video 👍🤟
This was EXACTLY what i needed. Thank you so much for sharing this video. Was able to fix my seat to have it fold down in 5 minutes. BOOM!

Hey man, thank you so much! I’ve had this broken for months and didn’t want to pay someone. Appreciate you sharing the fix!
Thank you! Fixed the problem in 10 minutes. I couldn't find a bungie cord so I just wedged the handle of the screwdriver (that I used to pry open the casing) in the opening of the casing to keep it open.
3 year old video and still helping people. Thanks!
Thanks for making a video. I’m in the middle of moving and as luck would have it my rear seat would not go down. Just like on your video. I checked that spot you pointed out and sure enough the cable was out of its slot. Put it back in its grove and back to business. Thanks!
That was a great suggestion it worked. The bungee cable was a great third hand for this job.
Thank you!!! Thought it was designed that way since its the entry seat for the third row seats. I could have sworn it worked when I bought the 4 runner but was beginning to think I dreamed it. Love this vehicle. That was my only beef with it. Thanks again.
The perfect video I was pissed thinking I wouldn't find one on TH-cam but here we are ol reliable
Game changer. After watching I was able to solve the issue in under 5 minutes. Thank you for the video!
Thank you for the video!! I was able to fixed my Lexus GX460 by following your instructions.

Glad you took the time to read forums to fix the issue as I had the same issue on my 16 4Runner. Great video 👍
Wow you are the man! Mine went out on a camping trip this past weekend and I couldn't the car loaded right. This was a huge help!

Saved my impromptu car camping trip! Thank you a million! 🖤
Thanks, Brad! The video is super to the point. I fixed the issue on my 4Runner. To prevent the cable from coming out again, I used a long zip tie to secure it in position.
I did the same thing with a wire tie!!! Hopefully it works!!
I just got it fixed this morning! You Sir, are a Rockstar! Thanks!
Thank you for posting this. I read the below comments and it seems you helped a lot of people. Same issue happened to me today on my 2016. I broke the top level pull but that’s $11 on eBay. I did exactly what you said and it’s working. Hope it continues. Thank you again.

15 second fix with the leatherman in my glovebox, thanks man! 🤘🏼
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!! This is the second time I've needed this repaired. God bless you abundantly!
Exactly the problem. 5 minute fix thanks to this video. I was about to start taking the seat out/apart!
Thank you. My lexus gx 460 with captains chairs has same issue. I noticed cable was moving the plastic over there. Haven't tried to fix it yet.
Thanks Brads, after watching this video I was able to fix mine in less than 3min
I had the same issue and your video helped me save some time and sweet moolah. Thank you for this!
OMG thank you so much! I bought my 2015 two years ago and that has never worked I finally thought to go on TH-cam to see if anyone else had the same problem… LOL if I can fix it anyone can!
Did this video fix yours? I have a 2015 and I put this piece of plastic back into the U holder and it didn’t fix mine… did it work for you?
@@danvolk1095 I'm having the same issue, have you found a resolution??
@@dragongarcia5970 unfortunately no I haven’t - i still can’t believe they would design something that doesn’t fold
@@dragongarcia5970 can you also let me know if you figure it out?
@@danvolk1095 Will do :)
Thanks man for posting this the exact seat on my 17 limited just started doing that. When I’m not using my entire back half for work i like to use it for camping too!
Thank you! I had the same problem with my 2017 Lexus GX460 and this fixed it. I really appreciate it!
Your intro is GOLD
I had the exact same issue and this was the fix. Don’t let the dealership charge you to replace a “broken part”. Straight up highway robbery.
Going to have to try this mine won’t lay flat. Thank you for sharing this!! 🫵👍
Do you have a video for the 60% driver's side back seat repair. Same issue that it won't fold down. I can't find the same mechanisms on that seat and that is the one that is stuck on my 2012 Toyota 4 runner.
So thankful! We've had to do this twice so far, while reviewing your helpful video!
Does this apply to non third row 4runners as well?
I just did it 5 minutes ago. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!
Thanks very much just sorted my 2015 Prado rear seat after many months not being able to fold down
Do you have a 2015 4runner with this same issue?
It worked!!!!!!!!! But how do i push that black thingy you’re holding with the strap back in place?
Thanks for the video. This applies to Lexus GX460 too, the components for both of these cars have similar designs. I suggest adding GX460 tag to your video.
What! Omg! I have had this problem for a while. Thanks man! I will try to fix it tomorrow. Subscribed.
Phew.... thanks for helping me fix the issue. Appreciate you taking the time.
such an easy fix! Had my 4runner for 2 years and thought the seat just doesn't go down.
I have a 2016 Trail edition my back seats don’t look like yours and I can’t slide them forward like you have done?
Oh my goodness, you are a life saver. Who woulda thought. Thank you soooo much.
Thanks! This video did the trick! Fixed it in 4 minutes! 🙂
Dude. Thank you so much. This saved me so much money!
Great video. Works for Lexus GX 460 too. Change your title so it shows up for Lexus as well. 👍🏼

Man. This video is gold. Thank you so much
You rock! Thanks for taking the time to make this video. That worked!
Oh man you’re a life saver! I have a 19’ and it has never laid flat since day 1.
Does both seats come down flat or just the smaller one?
Thanks Brad. I have one to do tomorrow. I think I will try a tywrap and some RTV to anchor it in place. Hope it will last. Thank you!!!!
Ty man saved me a bunch of time and headaches
awesome - I have this problem and looking forward to getting in there and trying this fix. Thanks!
Does anyone know if this works for 2015 limited’s? I have never been able to fold that second row passenger seat.
Brad, thank you so much for sharing this. Fixed my issue in minutes. 👍🏻
Great to come across this. Helped me out a ton and able to do it in a few seconds. Super helpful
