True. When House Light acknowledges they’re remnants of House of Wolves and apologizes for betraying the Awoken and the whole ‘attempting to drive humanity to extinction’ then Guardians can apologize for breaking their Houses. Though humanity has no reason to “be better” when they’re the ones living on a reservation still one bad day away from extinction.
I would buy the season pass a again if it ment I could see this as a 4 part animation tracking down Temporary's kidnappers. Actually I'd pay a lot more than that.
I did the same, but probably for about 5 minutes. Telling Saint that I'm in no place to judge him, given the thousands I've laid waste to. Telling Mithrax I'm sorry, and that House Light is welcome as family within these walls...at least by my guardian.
Ikora afterwards tells Mithrax that Saint got very affected by his story and I noticed by the dialogue during missions that Saint seem to be softening a bit. He's not that condescending anymore towards Mithrax. I still want to punch Lakshmi in the face tho
I love how you not only bring the cutscene that put Saint as a monster, because we are the protagonist of our own history and it's most true in war, the little chat with Shaxx it's just the perfect way to say we do bad things too but we can live in peace.
Shaxx offers a tangible view of guardian monstrosity because he was a warlord We view Saint as a righteous warrior of Light, we view warlords as corrupt tyrants, but to the Eliksni a Lightbearer is terrifying no matter their allegiance

I really enjoyed seeing the perception of Saint-14 as both a legend and a monster. I got to give it to Bungie with the story being really deep and tangled.
I want to see a cutscene not like the one where it's like the one in this I want a full animated cutscene of them talking about that cuz it's cool to read about it but really to hear the characters actually talk about it would just be cool plus shaxx never gets any action anyway
To take a probably bungled quote from Kyoraku Shunsui in Bleach. "As soon as you start a war both sides are evil. Doesn't matter what side you stand on."
In the dark age, in the first battle, when the shadows first lenghtened...one stood. He chose the path of perpetual torment. In his revenous hatred he found no peace and with boiling blood he scoured the solar system seeking vengence against the fallen who had wronged him. And those that tasted the bite of his light named him... *The Saint*
@@ruby_loveyt A lot of Shaxx's time during the Dark Age was spent protecting civilians from the elements, trying to scavenge food, etc. He was also almost completely defending his territory, and never really sought open conflict with the Fallen. Meanwhile, we've been attacking a fair bit. Honestly, it could go either way, mostly because killing Fallen is not that hard nowadays and that Shaax was never really looking for a fight, the fight was looking for him.
You should feel no remorse in killing those that came to kill you; that being said, knowing where to draw the line between massacre and self-defense should be what defines us as guardians.
To be fair, Saint was just fucking done with the Fallen. He gave them multiple chances over multiple centuries and what made him finally snap? Twilight Gap did. Three Entire houses aligned to take down the city and if the Awoken Queen didn't stop the fourth, the city would be overrun. The city had become weaker by a lot since the glory days of Six Fronts. Saint knew this and knew the fallen won't stop.... so he forced them to. And it worked, and paved the way for our own victories against the fallen.
I like that the thing that moved Saint the most in Misraaks story wasn't the cruelty or violence, but the thought of children trembling at his name. He really is a big softie.
I fight for the future for the inocent of the last city and to have the sins of their forefathers not bear judge to their lives as individuals. That is the way of the light. That is what it takes to be a guardian.
I find that War and it's consequences is all a matter of perspective. Everyone loses in the end if we don't try to learn about and study the other side of that coin. It's why I always enjoy listening to Eido and Mithrax, to learn about and understand their struggles and extend a hand, it's a wonderful thing. I think Saint will come around eventually.
there's some override dialogue where ikroa tells misraaks That his story's has given saint a lot to think about. I feel like saint will be more inclined to side with misraaks moving onwards.
Me with house light: oh dear, oh dear gorgeous Me going into the devil's lair strike 7 times a week when it's the ordeal mercilessly slaughtering every Eliksni I see with my lament: *RIP AND TEAR*
*thousands of dead bodies picked clean until there skeletons littered in fallen bases* people who think all the houses are just as tragic as the eliksni in house light are: “oh god i feel so bad for attacking them now”
Funny thing is, strikes are a "moment in time" according to Bungie. You only ever did devil's lair once, years ago, canonically. And that was against house of devils. In similar fashion, the Fallen that incited Saint's insatiable rage belonged to House of Rain, a house even all other eliksni hated for their barbarity. And they too, are gone and fucked. What I'm saying is, if you're not actively going on EDZ patrol and slaughtering fallen by the dozens, you're fine. Even then, those are house of dusk scavengers that purposefully ignored Misraaks' call, so that's fine too.
Tbf, they were raging a genocidal war on humanity because their religious leaders told them to, not out of survival. Then again, they did believe in a lie.

I find it interesting how as important our Guardians are, the most interesting of iij interactions are the ones we've been watching. We're watching as the City sorts its problems out with the Eliksni, and we're simply pushing it along bit by bit. We don't actively make our own choices to forge the story. @@evaun1t165 we don't have much choice here, if we help Lakshmi then we don't get Mithrax's help to stop the endless night I'd like to see another story where we can take sides, but this story doesn't work if we kick the Eliksni out
I've disliked some of Mithrax's comments in the past where he colored themselves as victims but I think people should understand that this cutscene was nothing like that. This was a direct reply to Saint saying that people shouldn't be expected to live with their monsters, so he showed Saint the hypocrisy in making the Eliksni live with their biggest monster. That should be the message that everyone takes from this, not whether someone was justified in what they did or not.
Except we’re not forcing them. They did follow Mithrax here but the decision was not forced upon them. I’m not justifying what they’ve done but the people of the city had no choice.
Except House Light is filled with both victims AND those that have done very horrible things. They aren't mutually exclusive terms. They're victims of the systems their forefathers set in place, victims of their society, everything they have been taught is wrong but they can't know that until someone shows it to them like Misraaks. No, that doesn't excuse their actions, but they're trying to be better now. While we don't have to forgive them for being shitty in the past, we should at least allow them to try and become better.
Ya, I agree with both of what you said. I get that the House of Light themselves are (mostly) victims, with 90%+ of them being peaceful beings who haven't done anything to Humanity. Making them work with Saint-14 is a punishment for them by itself. At the same time, as Eido herself attests to, the Eliskni have been killing, torturing, and mauling humans for a millenium with no reason. Seeing any of the rest of the Fallen as victims is really hard, for the Citizen of the Last City, this would seem terrible. Having Mithraax's answer directly applying to Saint is the only way this should be seen, but it being the Destiny community, it's already being widely overused.
@@TheRedThirst if something is "the only option" isn't that also being without a choice? Who has paracausal protectors that can resurrect themselves, has devastated the political systems and leadership of the Fallen due to those constant attacks? Humanity. Who had abandoned the Eliskni in the first place yet for some reason favored Humanity to be gifted those powerful paracausal protectors? The Traveler. Who had lost everything and had to gut their culture in order to survive, try to reclaim what was theirs? The Fallen And the biggest question of them all, WHO is trying to CHANGE ANYTHING?? The Eliskni of House Light. Enough with the attempted extinction crap because we have the literal cause for the collapse of the damned Golden Age right on the doorstep yet constantly cannot get over the fact that the Fallen tried to destroy humanity. What these cutscenes have really made me feel more than anything is frustration in our guardian, in them insisting on being a silent observer. We might be the most passive god slayers ever.
Because not all of us feel the same, your response may differ from mine or from another all together, we are silent because we are the embodiment of the guardians we play, sure for some stuff we were given dialog but for the most part its meant to come from the player. You see it as frustrating, I see it as wise, our actions speak louder than their words.
As someone who has been a part of FWC since vanilla D1, I’m appalled with how Lakshmi is leading the war cult. I refuse to use or wear war cult colors (except the heavy GL ‘cause chain reaction is gg)
The whole "Testing out ghallarhorn on a dreg" trope is really hitting different this season. It's not reasonable to believe that the Ellinksni shouldn't see us as allies after guardians run into their clubs and homes and just torch the place.
This gave me goosebumps they way Mithrax drops the mic on Saint. Love both characters so much and they way Bungie is showing us fallen POV on us and the traveler. I’m actually reading in game lore a lot this season. Can’t wait to get the new pages each week. I’ve always loved destiny lore but this is my favorite story content since season of dawn.
That Survivor's Epitaph has to be my favorite lore piece in a while, it such a mixed feeling knowing that these two characters that I adore in Destiny have their own share of crimes, which always loops to a favorite quote of mine. “What is better: to be born good or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?” Destiny 2 has its up and down as we all know and way too familiar with, but stories like these is why I keep coming to the game, even if they are just text in a gun that I probably won't ever use.
It's an interesting path Bungie has the narrative on. I appreciate it a lot. I also really like how D1 had all these stories and lore snippets of our "heroes" slaying scores upon scores of enemies. The tales we tell so that others won't be. Tales that emphasis heroism, courage, determination. Just ignore the blood spilled along the way, and don't ask the other side what they think of our heroes.
I was actually surprised by lord shaxx reaction but after reading the rest of the lore it made sense I'm glad to see that lord shaxx understood misraks
If anyone is to come to terms earliest out of the guardians (except the Drifter of course), it would be Shaxx. Next to Saladin as one of the oldest guardians of the Tower.
Man this was heavy, that moment with Shaxx and Mithrax in the tower is very powerful, you can see the interaction in your mind, you can feel the emotions. And when Shaxx leaves, it is like both him and Mithrax have an understanding, they are both the same in so many ways, they have both done monstrous things, but now moving forward maybe we can all come together to fight the real monsters on our doorstep

"They are coming" is referencing to how the hive are coming (cough cough witch queen cough cough) soon. Again, take this with a grain of salt, because these are just assumptions. Thanks!
I don't see how "snipers fire down/an Ether tank explodes/blood runs in the gutter" is a reference to how we cleared out the Glykon unless I forgot some details in the Presage mission. This content and the topic itself is very well done and eye opening... while I've played this games, shifting enemies from each iteration of content...I've wondered if there is in fact, an end. Not simply an end to the game, but really and endpoint for the relentless assault against our "foes". Mithrax and the seasonal content as a whole, has opened the floor to an idea that I always had while playing... what if? What if we were to stop and truly look at the fallen for what they could be... allies...the sheer number of them as a people has been drilling throughout these wars... but could happen between the house of light and the leaders of the city could prove to be the starting point to an alliance. Essentially, Saint and Mithrax are both sides “monsters”. Though I’d say Mithrax was more a “monster”than Saint, unless Bungie puts out a lore card detailing Saint murderering defenseless Eliksni in a cage then what Mithrax did while with the Wolves is still far worse. And the whole driving humanity to a point of near extinction is a hot topic that can’t be solved in a few weeks after centuries of conditioning because the Vanguard says, “Be nice for mercy.”, it’s not that easy even if Savathun wasn’t manipulating the City’s fear and paranoia.

"5: the Tower molders : the Hive Witch's worm : Ghosts at war : a Voice behind the Darkness : the Traveler abandoned us : Taken Cabal : a new Hive rejoices-

Dark growths in the ruins is the glykon along with mutated ghosts, and "snipers fire down/an Ether tank explodes/blood runs in the gutter" is referencing to how we cleared out the glykon. "where is the Traveler" is referencing to how it seems like the traveler is doing nothing to help against the endless night. "You ARE my people!"
.........I cried.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH the cutscene was made OH SO MUCH BETTER by knowing Saint-14 was THERE to listen to Mithrax!
I can't stop laughing over the fact that Shaxx asked "Do you know how many Fallen I killed there?" and then said "All of them died afraid."
Yes Shaxx. When you kill someone, they die.
“People die when they’re killed!”
I'd love to see more of Saint's reaction to Misraak's story about him!
Playing deconstruction (the music at the very beginning for those of you who don’t know) was so nostalgic. It played very quietly in the background while you were at the tower in destiny 1. I remember many weekend mornings when I would be gearing up for an activity but then get sidetracked and have a sitting circle of many friendly guardians with it playing very softly in the back.
Thank you byf
This video and its contents, just this whole season in general, is something all people need to hear. Not just Destiny players. Mercy, empathy, understanding. Those are key. Not hatred, stereotyping and xenophobia. If Lord Shaxx can take a moment and reflect on it, we all can.
I was shocked when it played. Cutscenes in destiny that aren’t in the first or last mission?? Nice
The survivor's epitaph lore tab says they watched the last bit of sunlight descend beyond the horizon, but i thought the city was in an endless night???
Similar to thick clouds you might still be able to barely see the sun passing over the edge.
Interesting oversight, or the lore takes place later.
Lore army assemble! Another great video Byf, keep up the great content!
Me in d1 having 100000 servitor kills on Venus from that loot cave... hehehe sorry
The one that never got patched because it wasn’t relevant enough. Good times
"your heroes, our nightmares,"
-Nivviks, wild hunt vest (hunter).
This is simply a matter of perspective, regrettably.
I've only been watching your videos regularly for a few short months, but I must say that you videos really help put the storyline of Destiny 2 into better perspective. It seems that simply playing, as I have been, is really only scratching the surface of the deep narrative that Destiny 2 actually has. So, thank you for all the insight and hard work you do. These videos are the highlight of my week.
D2 Year 4 might be Year of the Competent and well-crafted Storytelling
Took them long enough.
Oh just wait until year 5 lol
This is hopefully gonna get better.
bungie has knocked it out of the park these past two seasons, both Caiatal and Misraaks have been stellar additions to the Destiny universe, and the fact that we get to interact with them in game rather than just in lorebooks and make tangible progress in ending the respective conflicts with their peoples, gives me genuine hope for the future of the game
Crazy hope, but I would love to see Mithrax become the new speaker. It would show the Eliksni that the traveler still cares for their kind and show humans that the Eliksni can be good as well. Think the humans and Eliksni will join forces to fight the darkness
That would be awesome. And the utter destruction of FWC, and the rest of the factions.
@@travisbishop782
Well (as far as we know) the factions' problems now are their leaders. Lakshmi and Hideo are in the coup for personal power and both are in the process of persuading Jalaal.
What might also make Saint scarier to the fallen is that he uses void light. Friendly reminder that even humanity distrusted void light at a time since it’s very similar to darkness. Only after more insight was it allowed.
Lovin the lore this season. Vids really help with things i might have missed. Keep on the awesome vids man ♥️
That self reflection be hittin different!! Love your content bruh! 🙏🏾
The Eliksni have killed thousands over the centuries and humanity has done the same. Both species are victims of the darkness and warriors. The sooner the city can recognize the similarities between each other, the sooner we can end the fear and hatred between each other.
They came to our world. They broke our species and they ate our children. They all need to die
@@FoehnAlkaiser dude our guys have ate them too. Plus we also have no idea how it all as a whole started it’s been a grudge war for that long. However in war killing is killing there is no right to kill everyone is a murderer in the end no matter how just the cause
The fallen aren't warriors. The Cabal are warriors. They have honour and codes and once beaten in battle can be bargained with confidence that they will keep their word. The fallen are proven oath breaker and are more akin to a criminal thug.
@@bengale9977 and they’re sentiophages. They came to Earth and devoured the lightless. If we lost the battle of six fronts there wouldn’t be a Last City
@@FoehnAlkaiser they? as in all eliksni? isnt that literally racism? grouping up an entire group of people into a singular being and blaming everyone for the actions of few? do you realize how stupid you sound right now?
I love looking back on your videos bc a lot of times we have more context to these lore tabs, that survivors epitaph tab where mithrax describes his boarding party we got a full on cutscene about in the season of the plunder! And in fact his hate was being fanned by the finger of nezarac here, deciding for him not to use it anymore
that cutscene still gives me chills... I think it'll give me chills every time I see it.
One of my most favorite parts about the cutscene is how Mithrax referred to the Ward of Dawn as a "foul shell"
Why yes, I am a walking terror of the night for every filthy xeno that dares defile our worlds.
Ave Imperator
Imperator Vult!
PURGE THE XENOS
My Armor is contempt, My Shield is Disgust, my blade is hatred. In his name, Let none survive.
Byf spitting out philoshpy & much needed life advice. Well done my man
Yo in the tower you can hear people say stop someone’s watching and it’s a bomb it doesn’t have to be maneuverable don’t know if that was always idle voice lines or not thought it was interesting
Byf, you just about brought me to tears with this video. I couldn't agree more about the concepts of mercy, understanding, and peace. I'll see you starside
"They drew first blood" - Frank Reynolds
"We defended ourselves from extension, now that we have the upper hand you pretend to be the victim"
An alliance that is born in mutual pain, regret, but ultimately, empathy and understanding.
I just hope that mithrax can live long enough to see this come to fruition.
Given what Savvy has going and the Darkness literally on our doorstep, we’re going to need all the help we can get.
@@LoneSilverW0lf I wonder if a late arrival of the cabal is a possibility.
@@jerisj.8971 it’s very well possible. Caital is smarter than most bosses we’ve dealt with, and the Cabal have a score to settle with the Hive. I can see some kind of a unified force sometime in the future. I just hope we all live to see it.
@@LoneSilverW0lf in my ideal destiny universe, we expand to let fallen, and maybe even cabal become a subclass!
@@jerisj.8971 I’m a Red War vet myself, and I have thought about how having Eliksni and Cabal Lightbearers affect things. The Speaker talked about how it takes ‘devotion, self sacrifice, and death’, but I’ve seen where having a strong soul and being touched by light is all it really needs and those aren’t exclusive to Humanity. So it is possible, but probably unlikely given the sheer amount of work the devs probably had just giving us the three classes.
But maybe lore wise seeing a Cabal Titan, a Psion Warlock, and an Eliksni Hunter would make for an interesting group.
i really like that they are exploring this part of the story more in the game. i personally have had a lot of issues with saint-14 for quite awhile now, but exploring this is adding a lot of complexity and depth to the story of the game that i am really enjoying.
I hurt for the House of Light, I can't help but want to side with them.
savathoon is messing with everyone tho.
I’ve been on board long before this season.
Like, he basically saved the city by informing us about siviks, and he even let us keep outbreak, which may well be a holy relic
@@trevordillon1921 me too, it's just the feels I'm feeling for the HoL is just so strong
When I came here, I did not expect so many guardians to be so kind to us. You have our gratitude.
Byf, I really like your channel. You manage to find that moral lesson even in every lore drop.
Having watched this after the season has ended... accurate foreshadowing Byf
Mithrax: how many eliksni have you killed.
Me: think about riskrunner. That's how many I killed
This is the best place for destiny lore and information by far, love watching these videos! Also loved the paraphrased quote at the end from the "Hearafter" exotic, easily one of my favorite quotes from destiny's universe.
Meanwhile:
Savathun's return is inevitable
The Last City and the Vanguard have heard the song
Top Ranking Members are also affected
The House of Light will be the scapegoat for a Coup inside the Last City by the hands of the FWC
In the end, The Witch Queen will have her revenge
The Season of the Witch/Queen is coming
Be ready
I think Savathûn is masquerading as Osiris. Anyone else find it odd how when he came back to the tower, he was skulking in the shadows?
ALSO, there is dialogue where Misraaks proposes all races, including hive, standing against the darkness, United. Osiris then asks: “You would join forces with Savathûn?”, and the dialogue ends. No quips, no explaining why that’s a bad idea… I’m telling y’all, Savathûn is wearing his skin!
@@wattsactingdoc Osiris has been sus as of late. Previously, I believed that his change in behavior was because of Sagira's death, but now it feels like Osiris has agendas of his own. He mentions that he gains a lot of information whenever we complete Override, he talks Saladin out from meeting with Zavala, and he doesn't want Mithrax to lend a hand with FWC's device. He explains that Lakshmi-2 would not be happy with the House of Light tinkering with the Device, and it would only make things worse. It's just the way he responded to it felt off. About every scene with Osiris in it has the air of secrecy.
Season 15 is gonna be the season of the Wish, mark my words.
they seem to keep making stories that keep sending chills down the spines ot all
I've been telling the story of Saint to a returning D1 vet who's been learning about what he missed during his hiatus... Saints crusades were some of the things I pointed out that made him a legend to us and made him the Greatest Titan who ever lived but this moment has blown me away. Knowing/telling one side of the story and getting such great and haunting perspective from the other side still leaves the mind blown. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 To this seasons Lore!!
Haven’t played in over a year but still love hearing about the story and how well written it is
This season's storyline is great.
A week and a day of thanking byf, thank you byf
