I loved this! My favourite was the off centre one, so pretty!! It’s funny because I actually have been having a revolution over the past year about dish wear! I’m choosing to pick up random one off cool pieces instead of buying a whole matching set because it’s way more fun and full of personality!
These were all so pretty! I collect pottery. I love the handmade stuff. It’s so easy to find at thrift stores. I also collect copies of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. I have 130 copies lol. Why you ask? No idea. They are all different and amazing.
I'm a ceramicist and stoneware is any type of ceramics that is not porcelain (which is just similar particle make-up). Stoneware is relatively more common because it is made up of a mixture of all different types of clays and chemicals that are easy to find and is accessible. Everything you've shown is stoneware. No matter if it is handmade or from a factory.

The plate at 4:30, the Otagiri Horizon, if that's the 7" plate, it seems to be really hard to find. You can find the saucer plates pretty readily and the slightly larger salad plates but that one I haven't been able to find. I picked up a set of Otagiri Horizon dinner plates, those 7" plates, and cereal bowls, 7 pieces of each, for $10 some years ago and didn't realize what I had and sadly a couple bowls and a 7" plate have broken over the years. I'd love to find another 7" plate to replace it. The bowls sell for ridiculous amounts though; $60 for one.
I inherited my plates and bowls from my dad when he moved and cut down on his kitchen things but if I ever need to replace them I’m so thrifting stoneware - I love all of these! I lived in japan for a bit so have a huge appreciation for Japanese stoneware. Saying that, the farmhouse plate is so cute! 😍 love this video, thanks for sharing!
I also collect stonewear, I mostly go for the ones with the 60ish flower with the same color pallet. That way they are still kinda matchy. I lucked into a matching set with big and little plates as well as bowls a couple months ago. Also vintage coffee mugs in those same speckled browns mostly with wildlife on them but not always. I have almost no normal cups but entirely too many mugs.
I love the idea of having an eclectic collection of plates instead of just one collection. It's fun! My weird collection is probably plastic files for storing papers. They're really popular here in Japan. You can find them in lots of cute designs, and they're at basically every souvenir shop, stationery shop, etc. At some point after moving here I started buying them, and now it's just kind of a thing that, if I travel somewhere new in the country, I'm going to get at least one more file for my collection. As well as picking up any cute ones I see in stores.

This was a fun collection to see! So random question... when you go into your cupboard to select a plate, and there is a tall stack of your plates, do you tend to pick the one off the top, or do you go through your pile and pick the one with the design you feel like using that day?

You should pop those 2 with the lids that you don’t use on a shelf! They’re gorgeous and would look good one display!
