I personally don't care for M5 so if a band/group can make me like one of their songs, then I'd say it's better. But that's where the word "opinions" come into play.
They totally captured the essence of very early 1970's soul--hand's down. I can close my eyes and picture this song being sung around 1970-1971. It's that authentic. The original version by Maroon 5 doesn't hold a candle to this cover version.
Its so fun to soo many other people commenting about how they come back to listen to this again and again over years. I am the same but i specifically like the video aswell, i have the CD Version and just really like her expressiveness in the video
Not to take anything away from Maroon 5... but I just hope they've listened to this interpretation of their song...and that they can admit that this is amazeballs. Absolutely amazing. Now, when I get Maps stuck in my head, it's this version that plays.
SchalaZeal You should see her live. She's phenomenal. I got to meet her in Tucson and told her I actually prefer her version of this song over Maroon 5.
This is like Mozart improving Salieri's little song. This utterly wipes the floor with the original. I had to go find it. I don't really care for Maroon 5. I had no clue. Truly incredible.
OMG...I can't express how phenomenal Morgan is. Her interpretation of this song is out of this world. Her tone, especially at the high register, coupled with her range from low to high is out of sight. All of this with no auto-tune. Amazing, just Amazing!
Holy crap where has this woman been on my TH-cam recommendations?! Damn she's got a great voice. Dark, soulful, and enough power it blew me away to see who it was singing.
Naah, after someone told something funny right before the recording cut in, she now tries to hide her smile, thinking "sad song, dead puppies, dead puppies".
It's amazing how perfectly they nailed this song. The 70's R&B sound is dead on. And Morgan demonstrates a range of vocal styles and works to actually master them. She even get the body language and dance moves down. What a rare quality performer.
I frequently trip across this as I surf YT for music, and am always blown away by how good Morgan and the whole ensemble are, how great a job they did on the song, and what a lousy room this was to record in.
8 people in some guy's living room making better music than the vast majority of stuff that is "professionally" produced. This talent and most of all joy in the work they are doing is just incredible.
This probably Scott Bradley's living room in his NYC apartment. And since he was a music producer on Broadway he knew all the best talent & that's who he hired for these sessions. Everyone in that room is supremely talented! Most PMJ recordings were done in very few takes. Creep, with Haley Reinhart, was one take & done. Bradley just told her to sing it in a "jazzy" style. Over 100 million views!
Saw her live in Bologna during Jazz Festival season last year (2023) and she was AMAZING! Goosebumps and tears as she sang. Her voice is incredible live!
I don't know why I listen this song for the 10th time. I am mesmerised by Morgan James' vocals... And her coolness.. Anywyay, this blows Maroon 5 out of the water.
I saw Morgan in concert 2 and a half weeks ago. The soul and power of Aretha Franklin, and then some!!! An evening I'll never forget!! For more of her greatness, purchase her albums Nobody’s Fool (R&B original songs) and Memphis Magnetic (Soul original songs). She and Doug Wamble are superb songwriters!
Never ever get used to this performers raw talent… when she hits that one bit in the song and she just possesses by it… hairs on back of neck stand up every time! Just sublime!
This is the Best rendition of MAPS of all of them. Including the ORIGINAL artist version. Done in a room with minimal backup & instruments. Its a lesson on what talented arrangers, singers, musicians can do with proper mixing, too.
Now THIS is what is called TALENT! Why isn't Morgan James a household name? We haven Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber and all the rest of them blocking the airwaves when we could be enjoying AMAZING voices like this?!? I am so glad I just happened along this video! A beautiful woman with a gorgeous voice to match! All the best, Morgan! You've earned your place in music history!
AMEN!!! I completely agree! When I heard her version of Call My Name from Prince on the radio I damn near cried it was so beautiful I wanna hear more of her!
She has a better voice than 99% of any singer i've ever heard in the mainstream media. It's crazy we get the garbage we do when all this real music and real performance is out there.
She’s actually a Broadway star Who was one of the youngest people accepted into Julliard When she was right out of high school. A lot of people don’t really know about her because she’s not a big name, but she’s been around for a while and is of course a great singer.
This entire performance is pure perfection! Morgan strikes a commanding presence and fronts a deeply connected ensemble and wrings all the emotion out of every phrase, every move. This is putting a song across , slam dunk! This is how a pop song can be so addictive.
when I finally got around to listening to Maroon 5s version, I realized this was far and away the better arrangement. I can't even fathom the reason their version was a hit. I think it put me in a coma.
This is just incredible. What a band. And as for the chorus vocals:Sensational. And Morgan James. The soaring climax too this version is pure magic.Fabulous.If you need to be cheered up,and your spirits lifted. This most definitely does the job.Thrilling!!
I understand why this would be a popular comment here, but most people like living in their own apartment because this means that they have some time for themselves. I listen to a lot of music and a lot of that music is in this style, but there are times when I am not in the mood for it. And at those times the last thing I would want was the muffled sound of a live band coming through my ceiling, no matter how awesome the music is. I just hope they deal with this in person rather than through lawyers. I mean, in theory it should be as simple as: DING DONG *Neighbour:* "Hello? Oh, it's you. Good to see you!" *Scott:* "Yeah, hi! About that music thing. I wanted to ask you if it was okay if I were to bring a few artists over to practice and record for about two hours on Thursday from five PM." *Neighbour:* "Thursday... That's not very good for me. I'll be home from work then and, frankly, I'd really like to have some time to settle down then. Do you have your calendar with you? I'm sure we can find a date." *Scott:* "Thanks. I'll go and fetch it real quick."
EPR89 Your a tool dude. Can't you see how the world shaped you to care more about getting a good nights rest for your job. Just appreciate the music you could never make.
EPR89 So these are recorded in an apartment with adjoining neighbours? It would drive you a bit nuts if it were happening regular wouldn't it, especially if it's good music and all you can hear is the muffled thudding. People saying they wouldn't mind have obviously never had noisy neighbours. Great singer by the way, very soulful
for those who don't know, Morgan James is a broadway star. She is classically trained in voice and Classical opera singing at Juilliard School. Google more videos of her to see how good her techniques are. Don't compare her to these pop singers with no range or training. She's on a totally different league.
Geno Guerrero yea... now that you brought it up, id have to say Taylor has more soul than Morgan. It's just my opinion but i think that's something Morgan needs to work on even though her technique is flawless, but she's missing that ease and effortless thing that Taylor Dayne has.
Wow- Sorry Morgan! I been in the music world for years. And I only discovered you a few days ago! Now I found this amazing performance! You are special and a breath of fresh air!!!
What a pearl in the middle of the ocean!! I´m obsessed with this song from years ago. Morgan´s performance is out of this world and i´m not talking just about the voice. She reflects with all the gestures the feelings of the song. Just amazing!!
Never heard of any of these songs before... not sure want to now.. Voice, phasing, diction , instrumentals... its like music from the great days of the American song book.. a bit hotter. a bit more brash ... But think what these guys could and should do with say Gershwin...oh please...let it happen

Its so fun to soo many other people commenting about how they come back to listen to this again and again over years. I am the same but i specifically like the video aswell, i have the CD Version and just really like her expressiveness in the video
Wow it's been six years since this was published in YT. This still remain one of my favorite covers by PMJ.
Me too. I probably watched it over ten times and I'm an old professional guitarist who saw Hendrix.
Have you seen PMJ’s “Creep ”? Also a sublime cover.
@@MrSinnerBOFH Or "All about that bass" You get both of them there
I've listened to this song probably a couple dozen times at least, and I'm still floored every time at 2:53.
That was fucking amazing, WOW! abundant chills
Yep, good stuff!!! Great choice, Michael:))))
Postmodern Jukebox is one of the best thing even on youtube. And Morgan is... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWEsome!!!
Not to take anything away from Maroon 5... but I just hope they've listened to this interpretation of their song...and that they can admit that this is amazeballs. Absolutely amazing. Now, when I get Maps stuck in my head, it's this version that plays.
SchalaZeal I'll take it a step further and say that Maroon 5's song sounds like a cover for THIS song... and not a very good one.
SchalaZeal You should see her live. She's phenomenal. I got to meet her in Tucson and told her I actually prefer her version of this song over Maroon 5.
Have heard it so many times but still can't get enough!
That't the PMJ Spirit! There's never enough ;)
This is like Mozart improving Salieri's little song. This utterly wipes the floor with the original. I had to go find it. I don't really care for Maroon 5. I had no clue. Truly incredible.
Word!!!
hahaha for real
difference is that salieri was a great musician himself, cant say the same for maroon 5
Dark, soulful, and enough power it blew me away to see who it was singing.
maybe she's not as good as you are told to think she is
@@Mrch33ky but given his comment no one told him to think that
Turn your brain on.
0:05 dat look
+Dodec84 Agreed.
+Dodec84 tssssssss.....
+Dodec84 That's the "eargasm inbound in 5 4..." look. To me it looks like she's saying "listen to THIS!"
Naah, after someone told something funny right before the recording cut in, she now tries to hide her smile, thinking "sad song, dead puppies, dead puppies".
+Dodec84 Thought the same thing. Yum
It's amazing how perfectly they nailed this song. The 70's R&B sound is dead on. And Morgan demonstrates a range of vocal styles and works to actually master them. She even get the body language and dance moves down. What a rare quality performer.
I frequently trip across this as I surf YT for music, and am always blown away by how good Morgan and the whole ensemble are, how great a job they did on the song, and what a lousy room this was to record in.
fell in love at 2:53
Cas Daros Eargasm!
+maulana firman i did
OH MY. I AM IN LOVE.
Lmao didn't expect to find you here :P.
too bad she's married to her band member, lucky him!
the guitarist.
you're not the only one
Dude! I got a b.....r just hearing & watching her, my wife gets mad (jealous) as soon as i put morgan or haley!
8 people in some guy's living room making better music than the vast majority of stuff that is "professionally" produced. This talent and most of all joy in the work they are doing is just incredible.
Make no mistake, they are professionals
This probably Scott Bradley's living room in his NYC apartment. And since he was a music producer on Broadway he knew all the best talent & that's who he hired for these sessions. Everyone in that room is supremely talented! Most PMJ recordings were done in very few takes. Creep, with Haley Reinhart, was one take & done. Bradley just told her to sing it in a "jazzy" style. Over 100 million views!
No computers. No multi track recorders. No auto tuning. Just talent. 👍
Neighbours must be loving this
Saw her live in Bologna during Jazz Festival season last year (2023) and she was AMAZING! Goosebumps and tears as she sang. Her voice is incredible live!
I don't know why I listen this song for the 10th time. I am mesmerised by Morgan James' vocals... And her coolness.. Anywyay, this blows Maroon 5 out of the water.
She’s a bad ass for sure. 😎
Dude Morgan James KILLED IT on this one. Amazing. Background vocals were on point too. It's not easy to match a strong lead vocal.
That note at 3 minutes in is incredible. She's outstanding.
I know that everyone is looking at Morgan, but dude this pianist is on fire. Beautiful arrangement.
That's Scott Bradley, the great maestro behind PMJ.
We hear... and we see.. I think most men got the balance about right ;)
As you say, we are looking at Morgan....fuck the piano! 😁👍
The entire PMJb are talented musicians 👍
Garry Harriman 70% of PMJ success is on Scott
Never ever get used to this performers raw talent… when she hits that one bit in the song and she just possesses by it… hairs on back of neck stand up every time! Just sublime!
This is the Best rendition of MAPS of all of them. Including the ORIGINAL artist version. Done in a room with minimal backup & instruments. Its a lesson on what talented arrangers, singers, musicians can do with proper mixing, too.
2:50 That is SOME lung power. I am genuinely impressed. Everybody was great as usual. Thank you Scott and looking forward to your concert in Madrid.
She's Classically trained from Juilliard.
it gave me chills at that point... absolutely beautiful.
she got a voice that completely belies her small size
Alec Zammit Chills? It made me cry.
Wow I have just discovered Morgan James!! Amazing!
Guess the NSA isn't all that good at finding amazing talent.
Too busy wasting time hovering up innocent peoples data to worry about real talent.
Better late than never. You have good taste, Edward. She's a friend of mine.
This is by far my favorite cover song by Morgan. She sounds amazing and damm she is just gorgeous as hell on top of it!
Her voice is angelic!
No doubt and she has the looks to match, too!
Not only voice...
Y'all must be male!
Or, perhaps, devilish? :)
When I heard her version of Call My Name from Prince on the radio I damn near cried it was so beautiful I wanna hear more of her!
yup, need to boycott mtv, vh1 and any music award shows....
Yes!!! I agree 100%
She's been performing on Broadway since 2008 and off Broadway before then. She's well known in the musical theatre world.
Yes, I read that about her. Too bad more people are not into live theatre as much as listening to Top 40, right?
The piano player and PMJ s lead is responsible for the arrangements. Props to Scott Bradley and Morgan, hard combo to beat
She has a better voice than 99% of any singer i've ever heard in the mainstream media. It's crazy we get the garbage we do when all this real music and real performance is out there.
Most Pop Music now is overhyped marketing and overproduced sound.
Mainstream everything is garbage. Food, music, comedy, ect.
there are still a lot of fantastic live acoustic performers out there with no auto tune
Exactly. This song has sooo much 'slam dunk' power... it's irresistably addictive... certainly is 🎼
I went away to see if there is a better version. I'm back, I'm never going away.
+Octocaesar Good! Stay with us ;)
th-cam.com/video/Ex8NBCuwcdA/w-d-xo.html
when I finally got around to listening to Maroon 5s version, I realized this was far and away the better arrangement. I can't even fathom the reason their version was a hit. I think it put me in a coma.
+Darth Zed it was a hit cause they do it like this anymore in pop music.
Octocaesar gfgghhbj
I can appreciate the lyrics of this song so much better in this version vs the original
Ya I dont think I've ever heard much more than the chorus. Now it sounds a lot deeper lyric wise.
Me too, I wouldn’t give it a second thought from m5.
I didn't even know Maroon 5 sang this song. It's like a different thing, man.
This is just incredible. What a band. And as for the chorus vocals:Sensational. And Morgan James. The soaring climax too this version is pure magic.Fabulous.If you need to be cheered up,and your spirits lifted. This most definitely does the job.Thrilling!!
Wonderful arrangement and the sublime talent of Morgan James- what @ voice
It is hard to believe that I watched this 10 years ago. Perfect.
why would someone even complain about this music in your house? -_- i'd be happy to listen to it if i lived near :3
I mean, in theory it should be as simple as:
DING DONG
*Neighbour:* "Hello? Oh, it's you. Good to see you!"
*Scott:* "Yeah, hi! About that music thing. I wanted to ask you if it was okay if I were to bring a few artists over to practice and record for about two hours on Thursday from five PM."
*Neighbour:* "Thursday... That's not very good for me. I'll be home from work then and, frankly, I'd really like to have some time to settle down then. Do you have your calendar with you? I'm sure we can find a date."
*Scott:* "Thanks. I'll go and fetch it real quick."
EPR89
Your a tool dude. Can't you see how the world shaped you to care more about getting a good nights rest for your job. Just appreciate the music you could never make.
rubbiebubbie
Chill out dude.
EPR89 So these are recorded in an apartment with adjoining neighbours? It would drive you a bit nuts if it were happening regular wouldn't it, especially if it's good music and all you can hear is the muffled thudding. People saying they wouldn't mind have obviously never had noisy neighbours.
Great singer by the way, very soulful
i've played louder music in my house with no complaints soo
for those who don't know, Morgan James is a broadway star. She is classically trained in voice and Classical opera singing at Juilliard School. Google more videos of her to see how good her techniques are. Don't compare her to these pop singers with no range or training. She's on a totally different league.
Besides the beauty of Morgan James, can not miss the beauty of the beautiful Jasmin Walker who also has a sensational voice!!
Taylor Dayne was also classically trained in opera.. definitely an edge.
Geno Guerrero yea... now that you brought it up, id have to say Taylor has more soul than Morgan. It's just my opinion but i think that's something Morgan needs to work on even though her technique is flawless, but she's missing that ease and effortless thing that Taylor Dayne has.
She has a wonderful voice and it's much better than the most pop singers! And I love this performance. It's soooo good
Thank you for that fun fact! I love finding out new info on artists like her!
Morgan is the real Diva. Just plain original & awesome. On top of it she is a very intelligent human, listen to her talk. My Respects.
THAT HOLD!!!! Lord woman that is amazing.
2:38 DEAR LORD, SHE'S UNREAL!!!
Wow- Sorry Morgan! I been in the music world for years. And I only discovered you a few days ago! Now I found this amazing performance! You are special and a breath of fresh air!!!
"You-uh" and "do-uh" with her dancing is so addictive that I have to revisit this song over and over again.
Good lord, what a set of pipes. I swear she spent more air than anyone could possibly inhale in one breath.. what a voice.
What a pearl in the middle of the ocean!! I´m obsessed with this song from years ago. Morgan´s performance is out of this world and i´m not talking just about the voice. She reflects with all the gestures the feelings of the song. Just amazing!!
MORGAN IS THE BEST !!!! What a package, Beauty (WOW!) Talent, best VOCALIST on the planet!!
Thanks for the like, it made me listen again… WOW!!
Morgan is drop-dead gorgeous.
Possibly the most excellent thing I've experienced since 1963
Yeah girl
Morgan's voice, along with those fabulous backing singers, elevates an already beautiful song to another level ❤️
How she hits that first note so ridiculously clear, whithout a shred of ramping, is just insane.
Keep coming back to this song and the beautiful Morgan
That little dance, the voice, the looks wow !!!
Hey now! Exactly. And the look 00:06
Never heard of any of these songs before... not sure want to now..
Voice, phasing, diction , instrumentals... its like music from the great days of the American song book.. a bit hotter. a bit more brash ...
But think what these guys could and should do with say Gershwin...oh please...let it happen
Exactly my sentiments!
@@MrM1729 Oh yes, So im not the only one,
What a performance! Her back up singers are just as confident in there roll! Just awesome to listen to this beautiful energy!!!✌🏻
this whole set is one heck of a tight pocket
Divine arrangement and vocals. I close my eyes - tears are flowing. I've been listening for three days, I can't stop.
да, охуе***о. интересно, она стакан голосом сломать может?
Closing your eyes to Morgan James is not possible.
Бесподобный голос. А от этого взгляда невозможно оторваться. Переслушиваю уже 10 лет.
Postmodern Jukebox ... these vocalist and musicians are utterly amazing performers.
