The scroll with the numbers are referencing the rings given to Elves, Dwarves, and Humans, with the bottom one being the One Ring to rule them all.
it can also be read to be the year when jrr tolken died

The numbers on the scroll in the tower are a reference to Tolkien. Bottom to top the numbers are 1973, the year J.R.R Tolkien passed away.
I think it’s more a reference to:
3 Rings for the Elven Kings under the sky
7 for the Dwarf lords in their halls of stone
9 for mortal Men doomed to die
1 for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
Especially considering the order the numbers are in

While I am certain that the reference is to the 3 rings for the Elves, the 7 rings for the Dwarves, the 9 rings for Men, and 1 Ring to rule them all, that is an INCREDIBLE coincidence. Honestly, it's uncanny.

Don’t forget about the Fell Beast GWP. IMO the free GWP’s make the large prices slightly more tolerable. When I got Avengers Tower I got three gifts with purchase and it really felt like I was getting my $500’s worth.

Hello friends. I am hoping with our added voices.we can make change. the Felbeast immediately sold out. they didn't even have that many to begin with , I had to wait till the 4th to purchase since I am not able to afford lego insiders, and the felbeast was unavlaible for me . Now it's worth 150 and that was the main reason why I was getting the tower. Now I am going to wait and see if lego will build some more GWP felbeasts since I won't buy it until they make more , they should have simply worded it like this " lego GWP for insiders only" THEN I WOULD HAVE MAYBE CONSIDERED BEING AN INSIDER... but this is just shameful... now for both it will be 650$ USD...... what the F lego...
"extremely overpriced" folks say. meanwhile im surprised at how low the price is, especially when compared to other licensed sets.
The paper tile that has the 3, 7, 9, and 1 is a reference to the poem from the beginning of The Lord of the Rings.

awesome, saurons short legs are ok, gollums new print is also ok. but what is not ok is frodo and sams clothing is normal and decent, exactly the same print as the rivendell versions. should be dirty worn clothes printed

When talking about „exclusive“ minifigures I find it a bit tricky to count their temporary exclusivity as a purchasing argument. As long as LEGO doesn’t advertise them explicitly as exclusive to the set, they could likely be re-released anytime in a smaller set or a book/magazine. Captain Rex should serve as a negative examples here that proves my point
Literally my three favourite sets in one frame!
I would have loved a set more like Orthanc. That one has a smaller footprint, but is still imposing. It was the most expensive set I had ever bought at the time, but was still a significantly lower price point (even accounting for inflation). Still, I am going to buy this, because I am in too deep on LOTR and have zero common sense.
I honestly wish the Fell Beast was more detailed and automatically included in the set. I feel forced to buy this set day 1 which is a little tacky of Lego, IMO. All in all a beautiful set and I am excited to add it
Are you naive ? GWP is a marketing tool to make you buy it from them at full msrp. Any other outlet is lost margin to them.

How do you fairly evaluate if the set is worth $460 when you got it free from Lego? You should buy sets with your own money when you talk about value.
The set is expensive, not overpriced. For the cost of Lego, a set of this size/volume being $460 feels about right.

I choose Rivendell also tbh, every time I see it I just see one of the greatest true to the theme sets ever made. I genuinely hope that when they build hyrule castle it’s done as gracefully.

The fact we are finally getting Sauron as a Lego Minifigure is insane, never in a million years did any of us think we'd get Barad-Dur, I love The Interior my favorite rooms are Sauron's Throne Room and The Canteen
here's the characters I think personally they should have included in this set, they should have gone balls out:
1. Islidur (Aragon's Ancestor who didn't Destroy the Ring)
2. Elendil (Islidur's Father who was The Second Age Gondor King)
3. Elrond (Second Age)
4. Gil Galad (The Last King of The High Great Elves)
5. A Couple of Second Age Gondorian Soldiers (Last Alliance) (x2)
6. A Couple of Second Age Elven Soldiers (Last Alliance) (x3)
7. A Couple of Easterlings (x4)
If you're wondering Why I've put Characters from The Opening Montage Second Age in this set despite the fact it's in the Third Age Well: What if During the Final Battle We could reminisce about the Last Alliance Battle in the Second Age and how Islidur destroyed Sauron but it went wrong when he refused to Destroy The Ring, this would be a history reminder and it would make them realize that Sauron needs to be defeated this time

bought barad dur day 1. i’m just getting back into legos, loved them as a kid but want to start collecting some cool big sets to display in a separate room. i recently found the tower of orthanc i threw in storage back when i first got it as a gift from my mother. can’t wait to have the two towers on display together!
Now get 2 and combine them for a fully closed tower!

I think I'm going to wait for a sale for this one. I love it, but it doesnt have the same appeal as Rivendell. If we continue to get yearly LOTR sets, I have a strong feeling that next year we will see Bag End, in which case I WILL be picking that one up. Bag End is my favourite location
The Lego sticker with the 3, 7,9 , 1 is ring poem. 3 for elves, 7 for dwarves 9 for man and 1 to rule them all. Also if read the other way 1973, it is the year the Tolkein past away.
I want it, but $450 is a lot for a lego set that is pretty tricky to display. Hopefully this isn't a limited thing.

In my personal opinion, both Rivendell and Barad-dur are released with the right details. LOTR fans are majority adults now since the last LOTR trilogy was in 2003. I don't think young kids below 12 yo will be attracted to LOTR sets even if cheaper options are available (unless LOTR releases a kid-friendly animated series that do well). Tho not everyone can afford the hefty price tag of such a detailed set. Hence, I do agree that there should be battle packs to complement these sets so that LOTR fans have the opportunity to build the battle scenes. Perhaps, the character minifigures can be made available in Advent Calenders and Lego magazines so that LOTR fans can purchase these minifigures at a lower budget. A LOTR theme minifigure set or anniversary set (like the Star Wars theme) is also welcomed ☺

The Avatar minifig could of been used as a template for Sauron to make him taller and more imposing relative to the other minifigs.

Totally agree. Set is awesome, price adequate but most importantly, i totally miss smaller and larger sets. Some big theme comeback. We just get those total huge masterpieces sets and nothing else. I want to buy whole collection of LOTR LEGO sets triple time, give us this finally !!! I dont get why they make some weird stuff like dreamz or other themes which are total nonsense and cant make more LOTR masterpieces which will go out like hot buns. Is licensing that much of a problem? Dunno whats the issue there but I feel like they miss total money grab from fans all over the earth

Why have so many play features? How many adults would build this and then play with it? Assuming at the price it isn't aimed at kids? Lego seems to get half of things right but misses the mark.
What are your thoughts on Rivendell having an open backside? Or the Lion Knights Castle being open on the back?

I don't see why all the fuss about this set. People got crazy for it. Even camping (in US) to get it. Heck, while i love LOTR there is no way i would give my heard earned money for this, only SW and few ICONS and Architecture.

@@arkadiuszjandylewski152 Because i dont buy every LEGO set that is released, no matter if its good or not. I only buy what i really want. Sure it is beautiful but its not my coup of tea. I only collect Star Wars sets (of course not all, only selected) and few Icons and architecture. Bluebrixx and Cobi setts to (but again only selected).Lot of my friends that collect LEGO already got this set, but i am not tempted on it. I dont have that much space for large sets, i only have one or two UCS sets, thats enough for me.
Honestly, after seeing that cut-out in the back of it, at best it's worth half that price, and that's being generous to Lego here. Price tags like those are why I've stopped bothering with collecting.
Paper bags for a company entirely based on a plastic product is so funny to me. They’re making zero difference with this move and I appreciated the transparent plastic bags. Simply because everyone who builds Lego has had a piece stay in the bag and it’s much easier to detect with a see through package.

Because it's very large. This is actually pretty fairly priced considering Lego's usual prices. Bigger sets = higher prices. Pretty simple.
